I thought this would be a WBAYDN beer only. Then I saw I've not had it before! Well, holy hell, here it is in NBW.

Fresh Hop Mosaic IPA - Castle Danger Brewing - Two Harbors, MN - American IPA - 6.5%

I love the difference that fresh hops provide to a beer. The hop flavor seems a bit muted, but, there's an earthy element that pellet hops do not give. I am a fan, and love this beer. I may have to get another 4 pack.

From a 12oz can canned on 10/11/24. How have I not had this before? This is very fresh and just came into work a few days before writing this.

This beer is a slightly murky pouring beer. Golden colored. The head is a 1 finger white color. The head retention is decent, and there's some sticky, clingy lacing on the glass.
The aroma is quite earthy smelling. Grassy, earthy, and pine is how I'd describe what I'm smelling here.
Taste - The flavor is very earthy tasting. Slightly woody flavored. The fresh hops are the star of the show here. Grassy flavored. Hints of pine. Slightly floral.
The body is clingy and sticky. The feeling from fresh hops is hard to describe, but I can say it's pleasing.
Wow! Again, how have I not had this before? Delicious as heck.

There will be at least one more for this NBW. Cheers!

Fair State FSBC10 Imperial Stout, 12.5% ABV. Pours thick and black from two of the weenie 7.5oz cans, with a one-finger light brown head that dissipated quickly, leaving no lacing. Aroma is maple syrup, vanilla, and roasted malt. Flavor is roasted malt, maple, and vanilla, moderately sweet, equally bitter.Excellent mouthfeel, though a bit light on carbonation. Overall outstanding.

Beautiful amber / orange body; sparse carbonation; thick, sculpted head, dense and long lasting. Great nose filled with notes of tropical fruit; mild caramel scent. Good taste although a bit one-dimensional; caramel; struggling suggestion of esters; moderate hop bitterness; a bit grassy and woody. Medium-heavy body; sticky.

I'm guessing there is some age to this beer. It's okay overall, but the taste barely goes beyond basic malt and hop bitterness and doesn't bring out any of the tropical fruit hints that the smell does. I'm thinking a bit of oxidation may be at play. The body also seems heavy with residual sugars, more so than what I would expect from most India pale ales.

Deschutes King Crispy Pilsner, 4.8% ABV; 3.76 overall

Pours a sparkling light gold with two gingers of fluffy pearl colored head. Above average head retention & lacing

S: Bready, a little grainy, soapy hops, floral hops once warm

T: Sweet breadyness, a little grainy bitterness, some lemon notes, & a touch of herbal hops up front, plus some dryness. Grassy notes, dryness, some herbal bitterness as this beer warms up, some cracker & bready notes as well. Finishes crisp, dry with woody & herbal hops

MF: Medium body, fairly crisp carbonation & pretty good balance

Drinks easy enough, just not enough depth of flavor to really wow me. Happily, just purchased a single

Dark brown, opaque pour, clear; thick, light tan head, lasting, dense and creamy; excellent sheets of foam coat the inside of the glass. Wonderful aroma; cacao nibs and chocolate; blue spruce tips. The taste follows along the lines of the smell with a light touch of smokiness; light ash flavor; light overall bitterness. Heavy body; thick and sticky.

Another fine smoked beer from Hammerheart that doesn't overpower with the smoke. The spruce tips presence is fairly subdued, most prominent during the initial whiff when the can was opened. A balanced a tasty porter delivery a nice variation on the base style.

Another beautiful day here; lots done then afternoon soccer game. We lost but got to see lots of family, and maybe last time I see my sister till she has her second, due this week!!!! And now we beer…

Another beer from dad from his Delaware trips. I know I had this beer years ago but it’s long since been retired. The rehoboth brew pub bring a back beers from time to time and this is one of them.

Dogfish - Sixty One (AIPA w/ grape must)

Crystal clear; amber like with pinkish reddish hue; dirty white head; nice retention.

Nose is aromatic like potpourri; I want to see its floral first and foremost but this is a hard one to describe; there’s a distinct uniqueness to the floral character it’s grape like but I swear I smell a hoppy cotton candy, if you’ve ever had those cotton candy grapes…just very unique mix of flavors, different and hard to put words to, good malty depth lies underneath it all.

The taste has the same interesting unique mix; the malt presence is more noticeable and really brings this beer back and forth between worlds, I gotta go with grape like cotton candy again but the traditional 60 min hops poke out more now, little earth and little sappy; a good rich toastiness kicks in on the finish.

Body is firmly in medium; crisp and clean finish, bitterness is moderate but tampered by the grape mist which lends a drying sweetness on the tongue.

Well that was a journey, what a cool fun beer. Really hard to put words to it but I did my best; grateful to have go to try this beer again cause I don’t remember it at all and I’m 100% it wasn’t as fresh as this one.

    ——————

And now we start another work week…but we’ll be back next weekend, see you all then. Cheers Everyone.

Trap Door + Kings and Daughters - Shred It (fresh hop)

16oz can served in a big snifter. Canned 09/25/24. Bought it at Full Throttle Bottles eight days ago.

Pours super murky white yellow with a small, fine head. Smell is tons of bubble gum and melon, lemon rind and flowers.

Taste is overripe tropical fruit, moderate earthiness, wet grains and cut vegetation. Boozy, surprising at 7%.

Mouthfeel is creamy with just a hint of chalkiness. Overall, it's pretty good.

...I'm waiting to see how the 3rd beer style I got turns out (Weltenwanderer)...I believe the can's back label mentions it being brewed in the style of the famous Bamberg breweries...the first two had some mild smoke, but as a fan of all things Aecht Schlenkerla, well, we'll see how that goes...the nice thing is, I got three cans of each three styles, so I certainly will be trying things several times over the coming months...

    3 Sheeps Wolf
3 Sheeps Wolf with Anodyne Coffee
3 Sheeps Wolf with Dark Matter Coffee

We had friends over yesterday to watch the end of the baseball season for the local team and to, more importantly, enjoy dinner and a nice autumn evening. Thanks to @Danmullens1 I was able to share a few stouts from 3 Sheeps based on their stout The Wolf.

The base Wolf stout is a delicious stout very much in my wheelhouse. To my surprise, I have never reviewed it at BA. Let's remedy that oversight.

Poured from a twelve ounce can, the body is dark black with a very small mocha colored head. Not much lacing.

The aroma has an abundance of chocolate, bourbon and caramel that is only accentuated in the flavor. A bold roasty char presents a wave of coffee and vanilla that merges with the barrel. The beer is flat out delicious, and the 13.5% ABV is only modestly present. Enough to satisfy the bourbon drinker in me without getting too hot.

Mouthfeel is lighter than anticipated and carbonation is good. Finish is heavy, sweet and boozy.

Perhaps over the top for some folks, this one is among my favorite barrel aged stouts.

I also shared two Wolf variants each with added coffee: Anodyne Coffee and Dark Matter Coffee. The appearance and nose is very similar to the base, but they are far more coffee forward, and these stouts do not taste nearly as heavy and mouthfeel is much lighter. ABV is indeed lower in these variants which just adds to their drinkability as nearly all bourbon heat is gone.

3 Sheeps has nearly twenty stouts in the Wolf line. I have only tried four and found them all to be excellent.

Other Half — Thank You for Juicing

This was a spontaneous single can purchase at a bodega.

Appearance is a soft light yellow, very hazy beer with a large head.

Nose of fruit juice with a bit of citrus.

Taste is light, fruity exotic hops, mixed with maybe Citra?

Soft mouthfeel, a bit of hops in the excellent aftertaste of complex NEIPA.

Overall, it is an excellent NE DIPA. It drinks very well after a few months of not having hazy IPAs. And checking the can after drinking it, it was hooped with several Citra hops with Nelson Sauvin and Sabro.

Stone Hazy Double 28th Anniversary. I generally like Stone, but this one falls short for my tastes. I could pile on about the name and the fact that the appearance seems quite clear, but the real issue is that it's "only" a solid beer that hides its ABV well, but that isn't worthy of being an anniversary beer from an OG craft brewery. Get a single as you might love it. For my tastes, the tried and true Stone IPA crushes this beer like a grape.

Jack's Abby — Dark as Hell

This is another special edition beer from the Winter Fest Pack.

The beer pours black-brown with a beige thick head and beautiful lacing.

The gorgeous smell of the chocolate-roasted malt.

The taste follows the nose with the deep-roasted flavors and a touch of hops.

The full rich mouthfeel and the dark roast aftertaste complete the picture.

This is an excellent beer. It drinks like a more robust Smoke & Dagger but without the smoke. Too bad it only comes in the mixed pack. I need more of this.

Natural State Brewing's Mai Bock Pale Lager, 6.9% ABV; a 2021 GABF winner; 3.95 Overall

Pours an effervescent gold with one finger of ivory colored head. Below average head retention & lacing

    S: Some breadyness, pears,

T: Follows the nose, very dry, some white grapes, hints of white pepper up front. Grassy notes as this beer warms up, sweet pear notes, bready dryness once this beer is warmed up, sweet apple juice notes, but not in a bad way. Finishes dry with sweet pear notes, some grassyness

MF: Medium body/chewy, very restrained carbonation

Very solid Mai Bock, pretty on point style-wise, just not super wild about the style. More of a Dopple guy myself. Flavor-wise very nice

16oz can served in a footed pilsner glass. Can is dated 09/29/24, I think. Bought it yesterday at Full Throttle Bottles.

Pours clear light yellow, smallish head, dense, lots of fine carbonation. Smell is tons of grass and flowers, honeysuckle out the wazoo. A little biscuit dough.

Taste is bright lemon and pine bitter, bright honeysuckle and floral sweetness. Grain is quite noticeable.
