Thank you both! Feeling good, just need to get through the course of medicine to avoid a recurrence. Great seeing the holiday beers today and getting ready to tuck in to a prodigious amount of potatoes.

Gnosis dessert beer, Banana Split Nocte imperial Stout with bananas, strawberries, cacao nibs, and vanilla.

16.9oz bottle poured into a taster glass shows a headless deep, dark brownish body with cola colored edges.

Aromas of bananas and strawberries emerge upon cracking open the bottle and don't disappoint. So satisfying.

The flavor matches and heads to diabetes level sweetness quickly. They really nailed the flavors they were looking for, even if chocolate is least detected.

Feel leans thin, yet still fills the plate.

Overall sweeter than an actual banana split, but again hit the flavor.

My first beer from Gnosis, and I hear good things. Merrillville isn't that far, got to go.

    Happy Thanksgiving.

    Bolero snort punch drunk love
..cola black appearance with a lasting tan head
...medium light carbonation with about a medium body, maybe a bit thin
..aroma is roasted malt, toasted grain, subtle coffee grinds
..taste is roasted malt with the toasted grains coming off very sour. Chocolate which finishes sweet.
...overall very good but the sour part takes away from making this better[IMG]

    Barrel aged Trillbomb by Trillium

    4.24/5 rDev -4.5%
    look: 4 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

Brewers notes : For this collaboration, we took t
he grain bill for Trillium's Night & Day and combined it with the flavor sugar and spice additions from Prairie's BOMB! to create TrillBOMB!, which we then aged in bourbon barrels.

Brewed with cacao, coffee, Ancho chilis, and vanilla, Barrel Aged TrillBOMB! has an intense nose of dark chocolate, dark brown sugar and soft vanilla. Sweet flavors of oaky vanilla and hazelnut are rounded out by a subtle warmth from the Ancho chilis.

MALT: English Pale Malt, C-60, C120, CaraMunich, Special B, Black Malt, Roasted Barley, Dextrine, Pale Chocolate Malt, Dark Candied Syrup, Brown Sugar

    HOPS: Columbus

Presenting an opaque, pitch-black in the glass, BA TrillBOMB! offers an explosive aromatic profile with floral peppers, rich dark chocolate, creamy vanilla, and delightfully smoky mole. Deep complexity becomes apparent as the beer opens up, eliciting secondary notes of spicy heat, fresh-ground coffee, figs, and delicate, woody spirit character contributed by bourbon barrel aging. Full, rich mouthfeel and mild sweetness, BA TrillBOMB! offers a genuinely unique stout experience to sip & savor slowly in the colder months ahead.

Syrupy pitch black liquid with a dark brown foam that immediately fades

Aroma is brown sugar, molasses , bourbon

Taste is chocolatey , cocoa, brown sugar , ancho chiles , bourbon

Mouthfeel is prickly heat with a fizziness from the ancho chiles

    Good beer

Brasserie La Debauche (France) ‘Sacred Heart XII’ Pecan Pie Eisbock Stout

33 cl bottle, shipped to my flat on order from the brewery. Poured into a taster’s snifter, there is zero foam. Dark amber brew reveals bright red tones when lit. Decent legs, but no lace.
Nose is ethynol up front, molasses and prunes follow.
Taste doesn’t deliver pecans, pie, nor much pastry. It’s hot and sticky as a July afternoon in Miami. Quite sweet. Chocolate pops in as this all-evening sipper warms up.
Mouthfeel is dense but not thick. Low carbonation with some prickles.
Overall, wish Debauche didn’t claim ‘pecan pie’ for this massively boozy 26% ABV Eisbock.

Dry for sure. It's there, I shit you not . I have gotten this note on lichtenhainers in the past. I definitely think it comes out in funky/sour beers sometimes.

I’m reading through it now, and you are right, it requires focus like nothing else I’ve read in a long time.
Thinking it’s essentially “Cliff Notes” of many books he intended to write but that’s just a guess.
I hope to finish it by Christmas.

Happy Thanksgiving fellow beer friends!! Hope everyone has had a great day thus far and is so full they are about to go to bed. We've finally made it back to home after heading out to my sisters for food then in laws for dessert and evening fun and games. I'm exhausted, first beer of the day comes courtesy of visiting the in laws...my brother in law gave me three beers I will use today and in the coming weeks.

I very much enjoy AAL as a style if they're well made craft examples, I'm curious to see how this one lives up. I'm pretty sure this beer is on the older side but, no date, and it was free to me so here we go.

Slack Tide Brewing - Flounder Pounder (AAL 4%)

Pours quite cloudy lemonade mixed with tea color, white head, but nothing worth noting; persists as a dense ring.

The nose as an underlying sweetness that has some hints of acidity; like pungent honey yet doesn't smell like honey, cereal notes, and some hay, or straw.

The taste is cereal like, a touch husk like; light straw, there is this really bizarre sprite like taste as the sip goes down.

Mouthfeel is light but far from crisp, and or clean; it goes down very bland, no bitterness; this really does not hit any feel marks that I enjoy in AAL beers.

This is the first real miss beer I've had in a while, its bland, watery, weird sour note; it almost has some NA beer aspects to it; rating this to style it falls flat on hitting the mark. One of the other beers I got tonight from family is a macro AAL that I haven't reviewed or had since college, I suspect I may like that one better than this.

    ------------------------

My contribution each year is sweet potatoes, of course baked then top with mallows; each year I seem to make more and every time my hands are dead by the end from all the peeling and cutting...

Hoping to share several new beers this weekend for our special holiday edition, hosted by our friend @Beersnake. Tree goes up tomorrow, always a fun family time the day after Thanksgiving. Cheers everyone and sleep well.

Happy Thanksgiving - hope everyone celebrates the way they want and enjoy the days.

On my cabinet spelunking mission last week I found this:

Wow...lousy label capture. Brourij Het Anker Gouden Carol's Cuvee Van De Keizer Imperial Dark, 2014 vintage, splitting with the missus. Full disclosure - I ticked this vintage in 2015 with no review. It's ten years old so let's see what's up.

Wanna skip to the good part TL:grinning:R version? This beer is absolutely spectacular.

It pours a bit muddy and dark brown. It mostly clears up as it warms and the color leans more to a really deep brown/ruby red. No appreciable head, but significant legs as the liquid elegantly coats the glass.

The nose gets hefty notes of dark fruit - plums, cherries and dates; Belgian yeast esters but not overly fruity. Hints of dark chocolate, lightly roasty malts, brown sugar that might be Belgian candi sugar, caramel. The 11% abv is not really hiding but it's not dominating either. Big aroma going on.

The taste opens fairly malt sweet, then it just coats the taste buds with sweet/dark cherries and dates, prune/plum, caramel, brown sugar, a kiss of dark chocolate. It's like a good, liquid fruitcake. The malt is up to balancing off everything else that is layered on top. There is a very light spice floating along that leaves a pleasant bit of licorice flavor in the post-swallow aromatics. Very mild tobacco note as well and a bit of sweet apple. There's a bit of a Dr. Pepper flavor as the flavors play out and a bit of hazelnut.

Feel is a little sticky but not really heavy. Not highly carbonated. The ABV isn't very apparent in the taste but it is very pleasantly warming. There's a lot of flavor, yet it is nuanced and not overpowering. Somehow it does not turn overly sweet - stops right at the rather abstract personal line for being too sweet.

Ten years old and this is an absolutely outstanding, stunning beer. Very happy to be winding this day down and enjoying this with the missus. Pretty sure I scored it a 4.35 - I think that will likely go up. I don't think this is being imported in my area any more but if I see it I'm buying it!

Three Ryes Men, apple brandy barrel aged, from Reuben's

22oz bottle served in a WABL sample glass. My label says it's 15.2%. 2020 edition.

Pours murky brown-amber with a medium sized head, surprising retention. Smell is boozy AF. Apple, brandy, bourbon, all evident. Some dates.

Taste is also boozy AF, but damn is there a lot of stuff going on here. Molasses-stewed apples, vanilla and oak, dates and raisins and tons of toffee, some grapefruit?

Mouthfeel is thick, sticky, heavy, chewy. Overall, very nice.

    3.93/5 rDev +0.3%
    look: 3.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 3.75
12 oz can canned 8/6/24 into a Becker glass.
L: SRM 4.5 pours a lightly caramel color with very light yeast showing but not quite straw, steady medium carbo bubbles, a soapy thin dingy white head that recedes to edge foam, med-thick soapy lacing all around.
S: Hops, grains, lightly fruity, light caramel.
T: Gently sweet with a slightly peppery hop note, yeast, caramel malts, grapefruit zest, pine resin, it is lightly pale, more resinous at the finish and through the aftertaste which also has an affable perfume note.
F: Brisk, wet, medium-light bodied feel with a semi-wet center and a lightly brisk medium length moderately drying finish.
O: Some session IPAs can have a light note of sulfur in the taste. This does not and is fairly hop frwd with citrus, resin, and grains. Extremely well balanced and is easy drinking. It is very good to excellent in its Session Ale sub-style.
I like it. It is equal to the OG.

    Hello NBW and happy Thanksgiving!

    Trying New Glarus Gyrator Doppelbock:

Appearance: Clear dark ruby, good foamy head.

Smell: Sweetness with caramel and dark fruit, hint of leather.

Taste: Mild sweetness, quite bready, the dark fruits come in a little later, and earthy hops in the finish. Somewhat light body for a doppelbock.

Overall: It's a traditional German style from New Glarus so I better try it! It's a solid effort, maybe a little less flavor than I was hoping for, but high drinkability due to the lighter body. Good stuff.

Hope everyone wakes up today after their turkey food coma. I have two more days of leftovers I'm looking forward to.

@LesDewitt4beer - I will try to track down the Founders All Day Mosaic, but what I'd really like is for them to bring back Mosaic Promise. It was disappointing finally hitting their taproom this Summer only to find none of my three favorite beers from them on the menu (Mosaic Promise, Blushing Monk and 4 Giants).

Ready for my second Pipeworks Barrel Aged Beer, a cognac barrel aged clean version, also the last one I have without a legible can date, though this was brewed likely when it was added by @cryptichead in April. I'm not familiar with the taste of cognac, so hopefully this works out.

    Pipeworks Little Tugboats

    3.66/5 rDev -11.2%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.75

11/29/24 - (Can - Home) (Chicago, IL) Can Notes: Purchased a single can for $11.01 with tax on August 23, 2024 at the Pipeworks Dojo, refrigerated at home until this morning. 16 oz can without a legible date stamped released earlier in the year. 13.3% ABV. Tales From the Oak. Cognac Barrel Aged Imperial Stout. Label Art by Beejay Olson. 2024 Pipeworks Brewing Company. Brewed and Canned in Chicago, Illinois.

Appearance: Poured about 10 oz the can into a 12 oz snifter. Still near black colored pour, rich dark tan bubbly head lasts about before leaving a nice dark tan ring around the glass. Nominal carbonation noted. 4.25

Aroma: After letting warm for 20 minutes, plums leads, raisins and other dark fruits follow. Not familiar with cognac, but this smells like a fruited barrel aged bourbon offering. Smells strong and a bit harsh. Need more experience with cognac, if I like this, before being able to give a more educated take. It's good for what I know, but not overly enticing. 3.75

Taste: Pretty much all barrel / cognac. Raisins, plums, sweet liquor. Thinking I'm not a cognac fan. 3.5

Mouthfeel: Gooey, syrupy body, but that could be enhanced by perceived sweetness. Very strong from go, drinks above the ABV. Cognac and sweet malt the primary taste sensation through the plums and likely cognac finish. 3.5

Overall: I can't speak to the cognac aspect because this is my first time drinking this flavor, but the beer overall is too sweet for my tastes. Tastes like a quad with cognac poured in. If you like cognac, this may be one you will enjoy, but I will avoid cognac barrels in the future. I'm about halfway done, and will finish but need to pair with food in the oven as this is too intimidating to drink the whole 16 oz without a food pairing. Still glad I tried, taking a big nap after this. 3.75

Going with a lighter offering tomorrow as I'm meeting up with friends for an afternoon of drinking, and can't handle another 16 oz double ABV offering and the afternoon back to back.

    Cheers!
