Drekker/Other Half collab Seal Of The Deal DNEIPA, 8.2% ABV. Pours golden, with a two-finger off-white head that left great lacing. Aroma is citrus and berry. Taste follows, slightly sweet, slightly bitter. Nice juicy mouthfeel, overall excellent.

Wow, 4PM EST and no one has posted here for almost 2hrs on a Saturday. I had some great beers on Thanksgiving, but was too busy socializing to post. Friday I literally had a food hangover and barely ate, nevermind had a beer. So I wasted 2-days of a 4-day NBW and return to my usual post time on this thread.

    4/5 rDev -4.8%
    look: 4 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 4
Poured from a 16oz can dated 10/27/24 to a Pilz glass at fridge temp.
The body is a very clear light gold. Three finger white head of uniform bubbles sits above, but recedes pretty quickly to layer that struggles to cover the full surface. Lacing is good on a tilt, but falls back to a ring within a few seconds.
The prominent aroma is bread yeast immediately after the pour, but this turns a little more astringent after a while, with faint citrus or pepper notes.
The taste is spicy with peppery dryness and herbal notes. Quite powerful for a pilsner frankly.
The mouthfeel is light, but there is hop oiliness. Carbonation is strong.
A good beer. I would have it again, but not my top German Pilsner.

    Definitely amusing!

When I first picked it up: "jeez, they'll name a beer anything these days"

Reads blurb on back: "oh, well, that actually makes sense then."

Poured a twelve ounce can, the body is a dark brown with a slightly mocha colored head. Good lacing.

Aroma is sweet malty goodness. Caramelicious. Taste follows nose as expected by style with a malty caramel flavor. A slight bitterness at finish. No sign of the ABV.

Mouthfeel is good, soft and substantial, with supportive carbonation.

A malty treat and a fine wee heavy for fans of the style.

Have a good nbw. I drove to Ohio for the holidays. Mostly been drinking celebration but I got one review at tday dinner at the galaxy Wadsworth. They have a verified venue and 26 beers on tap. My dad got a pic of me and my wife. It's semi formal but I was still wearing a band shirt lol
    [IMG]

I got Aeonian Oktovrios. Awesome Oktoberfest. Aromas and flavors of caramel, brown sugar, bread crust, herbal, floral, grass, light pine. Light to medium pine herbal bitter finish. Medium carb and body. Creamy bready malts and lingering resin hop drying. No cloying. Spot on marzen all day. Super clean lagering. 4.1/5

Hey there new beer friends, back with my second new beer of this long weekend after not posting yesterday. Hope everyone is having a solid weekend thus far; for us these past few days have been special as they usually are.

We have officially entered the holiday season, one of my favorite times of the year. Old Man Winter also has peaked his head out for us this weekend, nice and chilly with highs in the 30s and low 20s at night. In honor of the season and weather I thought this would be a fitting beer to open up.

I was able to grab a single of this after Southern Tier came up in this thread a few weeks ago. I liked the description of this beer so I gave it a try…

Southern Tier - Old Man Winter (Winter Warmer 7.5%)

Pours mostly a rich amber, clear; good thick, mostly hit head with good retention; dense and compact.

Nose is rich in malt and hops; rich caramel and honey laced bread, touch of abv heat, there is fruit hiding; cherry skin comes to mind, the hops lend some prickly sap notes.

Taste is again rich in malt, there is some toast quality on the finish but it’s mostly caramelized and sweet, very winter warmer like, or stronger scotch ale; hops contribute some pine cone quality.

Body is medium, maybe even a touch thin for the malt presence, comes off a little syrupy, which I find isn’t that uncommon in these “winter warmer” labeled beers; it’s a really clean beer, good bitterness on the finish; warming sensation creeps up the back of the throat and warms the esophagus; not overpowering but almost like it’s too much because it goes down quite easy.

I liked aspects of this beer but didn’t like it as a whole; I like most of what is going on but there is a harshness to this beer that I can feel straight to my head, it becomes more off-putting the more I drink. I would probably revisit or try again in the future but for now I’m glad I went single and not six pack, no way I’d finish them. I appreciate the winter warmer qualities paired with good hop presence though.

Left Hand Mexican Hot Chocolate Milk Stout

12oz canned SEP/23/2024 poured into a tulip glass at fridge temp 6% ABV. The beer pours black in color with medium brown colored head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. Sparce lacing. The aroma is moderate in strength featuring cinnamon, brown sugar and slight pepper. The taste is semisweet, watery stout with green pepper and cinnamon. Minimal roasted malt notes and minimal lactose. Mild bitterness. Mouthfeel is thin bodied with average carbonation and a semi dry finish. Overall, average to below average attempt at the Mexican hot chocolate stout sub-style.

    Cheers all!

Pours a very dark mahogany brown, very clear, looks opaque in the glass; very thick, dense, sticky head, sculpted, light khaki hue. Extremely pleasant smell; sweet malt suggesting chocolate and mint; delicate roast and char in the background. The taste builds upon and amplifies the aroma; boozy undercurrent with a phenolic bitterness; dark malt sweetness. Heavy, velvety mouthfeel; sticky residual sugars; subliminal alcohol warmth.

What a stupendous imperial stout! So deep and complex in character, well-balanced and stunning to the palate. To my regret, I only ordered on bottle. Next time...

Alesmith - Barrel Aged Speedway Stout (2023)

16oz can served in a little Hoppin' Frog snifter. Canned 10/10/2023. Bought it at Ridgewood two months ago.

Pours black with a small, dark brown head that settles into a small, light tan ring. Looks still and opaque. Smell is rich, very rich, vanilla and chocolate, boozy and oaky and char and coffee.

Taste is way on the boozy side, don't get nearly as much of the delightful panoply of sensations as I got in the nose. Maybe that'll change as it warms. Coffee and bitter dates dominate the flavor otherwise.

Mouthfeel is thick, not sticky or chewy, just big. Overall, not bad, but not fantastic.

Clear, brownish-red pour, semi-translucent; no visible carbonation; 1 1/2 finger thick head, long-lasting, dense yet sudsy. Notes of berry; delicate toasted malt on the nose; sweet; stone fruits and faint strawberry. Sweet, berry-like flavor; subtle bourbon edge; very mild bitterness. Flat and nearly watery mouthfeel; somewhat dry; some silkiness and slickness.

This relatively flat and watery quadruple barely comes across per the style. Burns Family, based on my limited experience, generally create deep and resonate big beer styles. This offering barely exudes a Belgian quadruple and certainly all but fails to represent its Wild Turkey barrel aging. Not a total fail from my perspective, but hardly memorable.

Stone 28th Anniversary Hazy DIPA, 8.5% ABV; 4.05 overall

Pours an effervescent gold with 2 fingers of cream-colored head. Above average head retention & slightly better lacing

    S: Grassyness, peach, white grapes

T: Follows the nose, pretty dry, some pomelo notes up front. Some grassy notes, green melon, white grapes & lime, some peppery hops once this beer warms up. Finishes dry, grassy with pomelo & white grape

MF: Medium body, restrained carbonation, nice balance

Wish I had found this a little fresher, 2 months old. Never made it to Arkansas as far as I know. Decent, expect more from their Anniversary Beers

Pours an effervescent copper/hazel with one finger of cream-colored head. Above average head retention

S: Some smokiness, jammy fruittyness, woody hop notes. Tons of toffee once warm

T: Follows the nose, a plenty dry, brown sugar & toastyness as well up front. Dryness, a little brown sugar, woody hops & toastyness dominate as this beer warms up. Finishes toasty, dry with leafy & woody hops, more brown sugar

MF: Medium body, moderate carbonation, a little warming

Decent take on the style, a little too aggressively hopped for a Scotch Ale. drinks easy

Double Barrel VSOR from Revolution. Ryeway is a favorite of mine so I had big expectations for this one. And it delivers. Tons of barrel, lots of intense caramel and toffee, lighter vanilla and even chocolate. Smooth for how intense the barrel is and how high the abv. Cheers!!

On our way back from Tennessee, driving through dropping temperatures and light snow, rather gripping drive.
Another beer I found at Reds near Nashville- a Baltic Porter from Creature Comforts- Stairway to Nowhere.
I think it was @FBarber who first sent me one in a BIF or LIF and I was smitten by the style, but sadly it isn’t common.
Poured cola brown with a light brown to beige head, looks good.
The flavor is coffee with baker’s chocolate (not milk chocolate) with just a hint of bitterness. Warm leather rather rounds it up.
The feel is not crisp but not viscous either, something in between. Appropriate for the style.
OA, Baltic Porters are under appreciated, I think they should be far more popular.
Really good end to a stressful drive.

S: Tropical & citrus hops, fades a bit once warm

T: Tangerine, vanilla, dryness, a little green melon & lime up front. Pomelo, passion fruit, green melon, pineapple, a little dryness & more vanilla as this beer warms up. Finishes a little dry with some pineapple whip & a little lime

MF: Medium body, restrained carbonation, nice balance

Good take on the style, nose drags this down a bit

Played in a soccer game today, no 1/2 time, no subs, im tired, but still got time for a big beer to share with y'all.
this is from Caius Farm Brewery , right here in Branford, Connecticut. My local local I guess. bonus, they make very good beers! This beer is Elagabalus, an Imperial Stout aged in Bourbon Barrels that registers 16.4%ABV. no other additives on the beer.

    onto my review:
I am sampling a cellar temp waxed 750 ML bottle (#153/163) per the label. Bought it about 1 month or so ago and has been in my cellar since that time.
Pouring into my trusty snifter. The beer pours a dark black coffee color and only a fizzy tan head that froths up and fades immediately to the thinnest of edge layers.
Aroma is very rich bourbon, brown sugar and some fudge. The bourbon is sweeter and there is a little black pepper spiciness that I believe is booziness. No hop presence on this nose, and I didnt expect any.
First sip reveals a medium to thick body with very fine tingly carbonation and the texture is coating and sticky. This beer feels like a 16% ABV imperial stout. there is a little warmth on the swallow, but it isnt overpowering , but does make this a sipper for sure.
Flavor is similar to the nose, with lots of fudge brownie and a hefty bourbon note. Rich brown sugar and chocolate roll with the bourbon and again, some black pepper spiciness kicks in the finish of the beer. There is no hop character on this beer that I can detect anywhere.
Im glad I bought this as the beer is very good, it was pretty expensive, but I am going to enjoy this bottle the rest of the evening now. Very nice BBA Imperial Stout
    4.5 in the BA DB

Pours a deep brown with an amber edge. Sandy head forms nicely, sticks around, and leaves some moderate lacing.
Nose is slightly toasty brown bread, caramel malt, and a hint of bitterness.
Flavor moves around a little more than the nose. Yes, she starts off with a nice, almost meaty, presentation of the toasty brown bread notes. But then as I move through the gentle sweetness I get a hint of what I am perceiving as a lightly toasty, earthy corn note. May be all in my head, but it reminds me of the simple joy of piki bread (having enjoyed this decades ago on the Hopi reservation). Regardless, I find this added dimension quite enjoyable and unique. This one goes beyond the usual balance of sweet, mild toastiness, and closing bitterness.
