    Varietal - Overstory Rye Reserve

12oz can served in a little Georgetown sample glass. Canned November 2024.

Pours black, light brown on the thinnest parts of the edges, medium sized head that shrinks to a uniform, dense ring. Smell is rye spice. chocolate and anise, something almost pepperminty about it.

Taste is rich, chocolate, light spice, coffee and chicory, toffee and nuts and raisins. Hint of charcoal.

Mouthfeel is rich, smooth, velvety. Overall, this is really nice.

This was/is a surprise. Not dank in my opinion just resinous as hell. Slammed and Jimijammed with Lupulin hops. No clue as to the IBUs. Long resinous linger. Awesome flavor with a lustrous feel. We are lucky. Cheers!!

    look: 4.25 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 3.75
12 oz bottle into a tulip glass.
L: Pours 98% clear rusty Amber with a 1/4" rounded creamy off white head that has excellent retention down to thick froth, lush steady carbo, medium sticky lacing with light half-banding.
S: Very light caramelized malts, distant cookie dough, not very expressive, no dankness.
T: Resinous pine, melon zest, melon, yeast, a trace of citrus pith, grapefruit zest, a severely long resinous finish that is mildly intense. Very hop frwd and quite bitter.
F: Brisk, lustrous and lush then semi-creamy & smooth medium-bodied feel with a very VERY long medium-dry finish that lingers.
O: Resinous but not dank. The name is a bit misleading. The term "Dank" IMO means funky. Funky taste or aroma or both. This has none of those but is just incredibly resinous. Extremely easy to drink with a long, bold, bitter finish. It is excellent to outstanding in its style.

Thanks to @ChicagoJ for getting us started and for the historical context of this thread. This thread is certainly one of the best parts of being a BA.

A huge shout out to @Braunmeister_1943 for this one! St. Seditious from 2SP Brewing in Pennsylvania. A wonderful treat from in a recent blind trade! Thanks, David!

Poured from a can at fridge temp. Pours a nice murky brown with almost no head. The nose is wonderful. Rich caramel, slight grassy hops, figs, and a nice nutty layer.

The taste is equally wonderful. A really fantastic mix of toffee and citrus peel bitterness. Leather, candied sugar, raisins, pie crust, every so slight maple, brown sugar, and a grassy note. Not really getting the nutty note that appeared on the nose. Very drinkable and super smooth.

The mouthfeel is relatively light with a really nice aftertaste. Lovely beer!

Brewed at Rutland Beer Works in Rutland, VT..
    Canned on 12/23/24.

Moderate pour yields a one inch white head over a cloudy orange body with sticky lacing.

Nose of tropical fruit (melon, peach) and citrus (lemon, lime, tangerine.)

Taste mirrors nose very closely. Taste is a bit sweet with slightly bitter finish of peach pit and citrus pith. As it warms there are hints of pineapple, blueberry, and bubblegum!

Very full mouthfeel with near medium carbonation.

Overall, a quite tasty IPA worth seeking out.

    Cheers!

    Galaxy traveling scientist pale ale
....very thick mango juice like appearance
....medium light carbonation with about a medium body
...aroma is a nice mix of very fresh mixed citrus fruit and peel, mostly lime. Theres other fruit such as pineapple with an earthy floral element showing up in the background
...taste does not stray too far from the aroma. Mild bitterness with equally mild sweetness with fruit and peel dominating.
....Definitely interesting and different but also enjoyable [IMG]

Frositita from Breakside, a barrel aged imperial oatmeal Stout.

This is pretty much exactly what I look for in a straight up, no extras barrel aged stout. Dry rather than sweet, up front I got very dark chocolate, deeply roasted nuts, coconut, and hints of nougat. The finish long, lingering roastiness in form of cocoa powder and espresso. A wonderful blanket of brown liquor covers it all beautifully. The mouthfeel is smooth and full. This is a gem! Thanks to @snaotheus for this via the barleywine/imperial stout bif.

Larry, my guess is that you 'beat me' here. I think my first NBS post was in 2016?

I hope that you get over your infection soon.

FWIW I have been battling a head cold this past 5 days and I feel much better today.

    Cheers!

Parapajamas from Firestone. An imperial milk stout with cocoa, vanilla bean and marshmallow. 10.5% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a nice black - not really that thick. Not much head. The nose is full of marshmallow, chocolate, and vanilla. Slight salted caramel is coming through as well.

The taste is not quite as good as the nose, but still really good. The mouthfeel is the main issue. It's quite thin, and it comes across as a much lower ABV than what it is. The flavor is nice, but not intense. Marshmallow, vanilla ice cream, chocolate, graham crackers, almonds, and a hint of roasted malt.

    Nice beer overall.

    Noble beast pils
    ....super clear light amber/orange/gold appearance
...medium carbonation with a close to medium body
...aroma is,bread,, pear, cereal, earthy floral and malty
    ...taste is identical to aroma.
....a seemingly simple beer yet it comes off as interesting and really well done. I could have this as a main staple and be very happy[IMG]

As it’s Cellaruary, I’ve been trying to pull out old stuff that is still new to me.
This is one given to me by a member of our SAN group, a 2015 bottle of Shipwreck Porter-
    [IMG]
The pour is dark coffee brown with a hint of a beige head, which for a 10 year old porter, barrel aged or not, is relatively impressive.
The smell I can’t speak of, but my wife, who hates beer, asked what I was drinking as it had a potent aroma. Cheers to that.
The taste is, well, that of a porter. The bourbon has all but dropped out. But a 10 year old porter still recognizable as a porter? Fairly impressive.
The feel is also typical of the porter style, smooth but not viscous.
OA, rather wish I had been able to try this about 9 or 10 years ago. But it’s still quite good.
    Cheers!

Totally Oatally from Cloudburst Brewing in Seattle. Received this from the amazing @snaotheus in the Barleywine/Stout BIF. Thanks for sending, Ryan!

Poured from a can at fridge temp. Pours pure black with at least an inch of light brown head. The nose is dark roasted malts, black licorice, molasses, oatmeal, and coffee grounds. Some dark chocolate slips through as it warms.

The taste is really nice. Smoky for sure. Charred wood, roasted malts, coffee grounds, dark chocolate, grains, slight vanilla, and a barbecue the morning after a nice cookout.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied. Roasty aftertaste.

I consider Cloudburst mostly a "modern IPA factory" kind of place. But they make a variety of styles, and in reality they do a pretty good job with most of them. They have some excellent lagers.

    look: 4.25 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25

CANNED ON 01/23/25. Poured into a Duvel tulip.

A: Black with two fingers of beige foamy head with average retention, but copious lacing.

S: Aroma is mostly dominated by coffee and roasted malt. There’s a hint of cocoa, but that’s it.

T: Flavor is more intense than the aroma with more cocoa mixed with coffee, medium caramel, roasted malt, and a light Berry note in the aftertaste. Bitterness is medium.

M: This beer is just a touch too dry, which leaves a slight stringency in the finish. Medium body and otherwise enjoyable.

O: Masthead comes again with an impressive stout. Great balance of coffee and cocoa, along with some nice caramel and berry characteristics.

Roughtail Nada Nada Pink Limonada Sour Ale, 5.0% ABV; 3.88 overall

Pours a hazed honey color with a pinky of eggshell colored head. Above average head retention & epic lacing

S: Lemons, a little grassyness, grapefruit, nose could be more

T: Getting some lemon/lime with a little sweetness, also pink grapefruit & dryness. Some leafy hops show up as the beer warms through, more pink grapefruit, dryness & tartness as well. Finishes tart, a little sour with pink grapefruit & lime

MF: Medium body, slight carbonation, picks up once warm

Really easy to drink, more of a summertime beer to me though

    McFatty's Dry Irish Stout
    4% stout by Fat Head’s

I sampled a pint on tap at Fat Head’s Brewery. The body poured a jet black with a large tan fluffy head. Light lacing.

    Aroma is light roasted malt.

Taste follows nose and there is a very small dark malt sweetness that serves to balance the malty char and the light bitterness that appears mid-swallow. As expected, things dry up quickly.

Mouthfeel is good. Body is mid-weight and carbonation very good.

A pleasant dry stout thats very crushable given the mid-weight body and relatively low ABV.
