Heavy Things from Firestone and The Bruery. Barleywine aged in brandy barrels. 16.5% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a very dark brown with a thin layer of tan head. The nose is INTENSE. Loads of booze-soaked toffee, maple, honey, biscuit, chocolate, tons of brandy, raisins, candy.

The taste is off the charts. Wow. How is something with such a high ABV so damn smooth? Mouth-watering caramel candy, raisin, honey, maple syrup, brandy, jolly rancher, marshmallow cream, vanilla pudding, and a nice truffle taste. Wow - this is so easy to drink.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a caramel aftertaste. Great barleywine overall.

Stout time now courtesy of @Whyteboar , via the barleywine etc, bif. Going with Dragon's Milk chocolate and coffee. Thanks for the sexy, lusciously curved shaker pint @snaotheus !

No rough edges here at all, this is smooth, sweet, and decadent. I'm getting more chocolate, Hershey's syrup and truffles, than coffee but there is enough of the latter to give this a nice mocha latte with vanilla vibe. The barrels are muted but the mellow warmth fits this well. Gently carbonated with a full, creamy body, this has a wonderful mouthfeel. Easily the best I've had from this line, thanks Craig!

Well time for my next round. I have to thank @CanConPhilly for this beer.

Wow, this is a well made beer. The malts are the star of the show here. Lots of caramel with a hint of grain. The bitterness and a kiss of smoke finish it off. Delicious!

    From a 16oz can. Canned on 11/18/2024

It looks a bit tan while pouring the beer, but in the glass it is more amber colored. The beer is clear looking. There's quite a bit of head on this beer at 3 fingers in size. The head is tan colored and has nice looking bubbles, and is long lasting. There's bit of lacing on the glass.
Aroma is malty as I would expect. I get a lot of caramel malt notes here. Hints of grain also show up in the mix.
Taste - Well, there's jut a ton of caramel in the flavor. It hits fast, hard and long lasting. There's a grainy flavor that also shows up in the middle. There's some bitterness on the backside with a hint of smoke.
I am digging how this beer feels. Smooth and full bodied. I like how that feeling of bitterness and smoke linger in my throat.
Wow, this is a very delicious beer and very well made.

This will likely be it for today. I will join the VB once again tomorrow. Cheers!

Looks like you did, we both rated it quite high and interestingly picked up a lot of the same notes; both of us picked up on those woody notes. I think mine was a bottle, seeing the picture on review looks familiar.

Riptide Rager IPA with Nectaron, Nelson and Mosaic hops from Humble Sea Brewing in Santa Cruz:

Lovely aroma of orange and honeydew melon. This is hoppy and fruity and rather dry, but in a pleasant way. The New Zealand hop flavors are green melon as usual with a dose of citrus. Starts out with a malty touch and then veers toward the acidic in the finish. Still it's West Coast from start to finish. Overall this is quite a pleasant hoppy brew, but quite sharp.

    Tonewood bedford mild dark ale
...almost solid black/cola appearance with a thick lasting off white head
...medium carbonation with just below average body
...aroma is roasted malts, earthy, wood. Comes off like a dry unsweetened birch beer to me
...flavor is dry, roasted malt, herbal, with an almost burnt wood/herbal finish
...very interesting beer with its low abv,3.7 it isn't one to just down. The dry mild bitterness makes it one that takes a few to finish[IMG]

Japan? Man, I’m not a great fan of flying, but my wife is hell bent on seeing the solar eclipse in Rakeovic where ever because we got screwed with clouds when we were in the direct path of totality. Already was on one flight turned around over the ocean because of a “wingtip fuel problem.” No lie the pilot had us just under breaking the sound barrier speed to get us back to swap out the plane. Uhhhhh, F that eclipse.

My notes are shot, but an Anchorage Schwarzer from a trade some time ago, but can’t recall…apologies.

Nicely done balance between stout and barleywine. Sweet, but with a good cleansing factor from the bourbon. Slight tannins, heavy stout malts. 16% hits like a baseball bat to the noggin.

I fly a lot, particularly to Japan...but never had a wingtip fuel problem. Got to "participate" in an emergency landing in Montana (with my pregnant wife) because one of the engines stopped working...one of my recent trips to Japan was delayed by four hours because one of the engines was spewing smoke and vibrating hard enough to be felt in the terminal

Never been happier about a four hour delay. Oh you want to get us a new plane? Take your time!
