Fully Space Blazed DIPA from Casa Agria in Oxnard

Strong blast of hoppy aromatics. The first sip is actually a fruity delight. Just the first, though. Massively powered with flavor, bitterness, and alcohol. The flavor is acres of citrus, and then the brutal bitterness. Eye-wateringly overhopped, actualy. I can't say this is much of a pleasure, but all the hop dosage will go to good use when I open a timid Lager next. Gonna pump you up! Apparently dates are for Earthlings. [Mosaic, Enigma, El Dorado, and Columbus Cryo hops]

Brasserie La Debauche (France) ‘Blueberry Muffins’ Pale Ale

Fresh 33 cl can poured chilled into a La Debauche short glass. Nice pinkish foam up on ruby color brew. Interestong can notes list: blueberries (9.7%), muffins (5.7%), which contain gluten, eggs, lactose. (The real stuff, not syrups and powders.)
Nose is quite fragrant, the blueberries shine, along with a sturdy malt aroma.
Taste is, yes, tart (not sour) blueberries, great malt backbone, a centerline hops bitterness. Finish is clean with a goodbye wisp of vanilla. Crisp and clean. Lipsmacking.
Mouth is light to medium, almost high carbonation.
Overall, Brasserie La Debauche produces another interesting and delicious beer

A solid 4.25/5 in the BA DB

Luminance from Royal City Brewing Co.

Poured a 473ml can dated 07 March, so pretty fresh. A two finger bubbly white head on a cloudy dirty gold. the head diminished to a layer. lots of patchy lacing.

Prominent lemon citrus in the nose. Lots of fruit flavour. Some tangerine. Some pine, but mostly juice. A fairly mild hop finish.

A creamy texture. A medium light body and moderate carbonation. I am not really an IPA guy but I really liked this one. Recommended.

Good day BAs! Thanks @Bishop for opening the thread/bar in the wee hours of Friday evening!

    Today's New Breakfast Beer:

Darkness Double Barrel 2024 from Surly. Received from @bbtkd 27/03/25 in a LIF associated with BS BIF #2. 16 fl oz can. Reviewed 30/03/25 (Review 3487). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Bottom of can stamped “CANNED ON 11/06/24.” Stored in at 39 degrees F at home: served at 54.6 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature is 62.2 degrees F.
    Appearance – 4.25
First pour – Amber Brown (SRM 18), clear.
Body – Deep Brown (SRM 30), almost black, opaque. Under direct light, same. When rear-lite, red amber at the edges.
Head – Average (Maximum 3.2 cm, aggressive center pour), tan brown, high density with rocks throughout, average retention. Drops to a 0.7 cm crown and a rocky complete cap.
Lacing – Excellent! Band of near-microscopic bubbles with an occasional window. As the level drops, this coats the entire glass, until the upper rings degenerate with senility.
Aroma – 4.5 – Sweet, with generic “dark fruits”, distinctly neither dates nor raisins, a bit figgy. No yeast, no malt, no hops, no alcohol. As it warms, however, some rum aroma appears.
Flavor – 4.5 – Begins sweet but not cloying, with “dark fruits.” No yeast, no hops. No alcohol (12 % ABV, according to the label). No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Distinct gastric warming. Ends slightly sweet with rum overtones.
Palate – 4 – Full: creamy: soft but lively carbonation.
Style: Follows the style guidelines as condensed by BA.

Final impression and summation: 4.5 I think some of the sweetness may come from the rum barrels. Oddly, I’m picking up no coffee, almost a given in RISs. However, this is the tastiest example of a Darkness variant I’ve ever had – delicious, moderately sweet, dark fruit! Thanks Tom!

L: SRM 4 pours clear light gold color with a 1/2" white head that recedes to skin & edge foam, VG steady medium carbo bubbles, medium random loose lacing.
S: A light hop note, a hint of caramelized malts, distant bread, lightly spicy hops, a similar aroma to Heineken.
T: Gentle sweet apple, light pear, a subtle spicy hop note, light caramel malts, a touch of yeast, subtle sea salt in the aftertaste. Has typical European Pils attributes and is very lightly pale.
F: Lightly brisk medium-light bodied mouthfeel with a medium length slightly drying finish.
O: A bit redolent of a Dutch style premium beer. Pretty easy feel with a decent light taste. Certainly a good refresher in hot weather. It is good in its style.

    Dangerous Man Mexican Corn Lager
    [IMG]
Appearance: Mostly clear yellow-gold, ok head.

Smell: Super corn, you want corn, you got corn.

Taste: Moderately sweet, then it's like biting into a corn tortilla. Liquid corn tortilla, I never believed it was possible, but it is here. Do the wonders ever cease?

Overall: For a beer called Mexican Corn Lager, I was mostly expecting something maybe a half step up from Modelo/Corona/etc, but this is a corn experience. It's really impressive how much this tastes like corn tortillas.

Easily the most disgusting looking beer I have poured at the point of this review. There is no denying it, the color looks very unappealing but I suppose that is what happens when you effectively mix orange, red, and brown components together.

Pours a very ugly brownish, carrot orange. One finger head is thick and reminiscent of the foam head you would find on a root-beer float. Smells of mango, raspberry and hints of vanilla. Taste is mango sweetness and raspberry tartness in pretty good balance. Vanilla and graham cracker come through in their own way but certainly aren't stars. There is a saltiness in taste too but I don't see sea salt as an addition. Carbonation is low-to-moderate and mouthfeel is thick and creamy. Finish is tart, somewhat salty, and cheesecake finally shows up on the exhale. I still can't get over how bad this beer looks...

16.9 oz bottle into a tall Lager glass.
L: SRM4-5 pours a slightly yeasty semi-dull light orange gold color with a 1/2" dull white head that recedes to a creamy thick skin, VG steady carbo, medium-light map-like lacing.
S: Light cereal grains, a distant fruit note, not very expressive.
T: Lightly sweet grains, a touch of yeast, light pear, a hint of apple, light wheat. Fairly simple, lightly earthy, and subtly sweet.
F: Fairly brisk light bodied mouthfeel with a soft almost creamy center and a medium dry finish.
O: Kind of a wheat Lager I guess. Really nice, light, subtle, and refreshing. Retains its carbo and feel quite well. I would buy this again, esp in the summer months. It is very good in its style.

[IMG] Good Sunday morning NBS/nbw and thanks to aour host this week @Bishop.
It has stayed cool and grey and damp here in the 413 this weekend. Perfect weather for this weeks test run, a big beautiful stout from New Holland
This treat has one year one it, so thats my reference point.

A - Dark brown color, the pour yeilds a thin mocha cap. With a blink the cap turns to ring for the duration.
S - Espresso, a bit of vanilla, bakers chocolate, and a hint smoky oak
T - Chocoalte forward for an instant, then coffee on display. a nice scicy thread in there, deceptively like smoked Ancho
    A kiss of barrel treatment.
M - Medium in body, with just enough slickness. Carbonation is minimal. The slide across the palate is fun. A dry finish with Espresso linger
O - A very good offering. The coffee, chocolate and bourbon barrel all dance in harmony. Excellent

Station Stout by Royal City Brewing Co.

A 473ml can nitro-poured into a pint glass. A solid 2 finger tan head on black. Excellent head retention.

Faint coffee aroma in the nose. The taste follows the nose with roasted malts and toast. A dry finish.

A smooth, medium light body with low carbonation. Its more true to the Irish dry stout style but well worth a try.

Guessing due to it being just a good beer and nothing crazy or interesting , I love Fonta and while Nebo is a nice clean beer I would probably never order one or buy it again. FF makes too many other interesting beers.

Good morning, Weekenders! My first new-to-me beer this Sunday is Sleepless in Seattle, a 12% ABV imperial stout with coffee and cocoa from Armored Cow Brewing in Charlotte, NC, and sent my way by @CBlack85 as part of a massive box in the Stout/Barleywine BIF #2.

This beer isn't the most complex or crazy thing ever, but it's exactly what it sets out to be: an imperial coffee stout. It's quite a bit like Founders Breakfast Stout, but with less bitterness (at least, to my memory; I haven't had FBS in a while). The chocolate is entirely complementary; the focus is absolutely on the coffee.

16 oz can into a 16 oz cylinder glass.
L: SRM 4 pours a dark grapefruit color with a splash of gold, almost no head with splotchy skin, low carbo, little to no lacing.
S: Tropical fruits, pine resin, cat pee on a Xmas tree, spruce funk, caramelized malts, fruit bread, some general dankness.
T: Fruit punch, citrus zest, papaya, pineapple, orange pith, a lightly dank hop note, rolled oats, white grape, melon rind,. The oats and melon linger for quite a while in the aftertaste and it is lightly rich.
F: Lightly brisk, juicy, medium to med-heavy feel with a broad center and a long moderately dry finish. Lightly chalky with warming.
O: A very tasty, fruity, juicy, and slightly dank American IPA. A little bit rich overall and is moderately full-flavored. Gently punchy and lightly sweet. It is outstanding in its style.

Pours jet black with a one finger, foamy head that dissipates quickly leaving a ring and thin layer of mocha-colored bubbles. Smells of vanilla, coffee, Hershey's syrup, and leather. Taste is incredibly decedent and follows the nose with notes of chocolate syrup, vanilla, and espresso. There is a sourness in the taste, most comparable to under-extracted espresso, but it isn't off-putting and does help moderate the sweetness of this beer. Mouthfeel is moderately carbonated, syrupy, and thick. Finish is velvety dark chocolate and soured espresso.

This beer is from 2017. I do like it a lot, and it honestly went down stupid fast, but it is damn delicious. I am liking the coconut on the back. The flavor just lingers. Delicious.

From a 12oz bottle. Date on the bottle: 74th day of 2017 (07417).

No hiss upon opening the bottle. This is a pitch black pouring beer into the glass, and it looked thick while pouring. There's almost no head, and I did an aggressive pour. I just got a very little bit of brown foam that dissipated rapidly.
The aroma is a nice mix of rich dark chocolate and notes of vanilla with a touch of caramel. I am also getting a strong coconut aroma.
The taste seems to start out with some chocolate and caramel. These notes linger but are added onto by a good hit of vanilla and coconut rounds out the flavor profile. The coconut flavor is quite strong and it does linger in my throat. There's a bit of bitterness on the backside also.
The body is very smooth and very full feeling. It feels almost creamy. There's a slight warming that does come into play in my throat from the ABV.
I've never had this beer fresh, so I have no comparison, but I'd say that this beer has held up really well. This is a solid beer.

I'll rest a bit, but I will be back for one more today, and weekend. Cheers!

Hello & Cheers New Beer Weekenders :beers:

Cassian Sunset by Central Waters Brewing

Years ago BA I had a great trader buddy from Minisoda' who would send me some of the occasional Central Waters brews so I am familiar with their excellence...He is no longer active on here unfortunately but alas, new relationships have been forged and this is a new to me brew provided by @GreenBayBA who is compelling me to drop a few words about it. Of all the beers he sent me I am most excited about this one!

I get immediate impressions of vanilla spiced oak here followed (in this order) by some house coffee, cinnamon crumb cake, brown sugar, dark cola and a touch of chocolate crème in the finish. These flavors all sound very sweet but I would not put this in the Pastry Stout category. This has a perfect balance across the board and for the near 12% ABV it is dangerously undetectable. Call the mouthfeel thin and lighter yes but it works so well here to create a very approachable drinking experience. Any more richness/fullness would likely make this brew a bit of a chore in my opinion. This hits like the little brother to Fremont's Rusty Nail. The cinnamon is not over the top to me and plays well with all of the other characters involved.

Overall Cassian Sunset delivers an experience that is reminiscent to enjoying a thick cut of cinnamon coffee cake drizzled with a vanilla glaze and chased with a cup of your favorite Coffee shop joe. Which makes it a perfect selection for a breakfast beer or perhaps a sweet little night capper as the name suggests.

Thanks again @GreenBayBA for the opportunity! If I were still rating beers this would likely land somewhere in the 4.2 territory for me. Very good beer. An easy fridge staple it would be.
