I just watched a video that was posted 4 days ago about Prost Brewing (Reno, NV) and their Biergarten. Just a couple of days ago (Friday evening) my wife and I went to a local craft brewery: Sly Fox Malvern, PA and since it was a nice evening we went outside to their Biergarten area and sat in Adirondack chairs and enjoyed drinking some glasses of Tettnang Keller Pils: “Tettnang Keller Pils Pilsner - German • 4.9% ABV • 46 IBU • This keller (straight from the beer cellar) version of a classic German-style Pils was hopped exclusively with the prized noble hop variety from the Tettnang region of southern Germany. The beer is served unfiltered, accentuating the vibrant flavors and aromas of the hops and yeast.” My wife went for a pint but I went BIG and ordered a 21.5 ounce Willi Becher glass. I think this beer is excellent!! After finishing the first beer I went back for a second. Can’t have too much of a good thing!?! There were lots of families there sitting at picnic tables enjoying their evening meals and enjoying Sly Fox beers. Unfortunately, I did not have the foresight to take photos but below is a ‘stock photo’ of this Biergarten. So, how about you? Do you have a local Biergarten that is a favorite of yours? Prost! P.S. I will set my timer to see how long until @PapaGoose03 post his response(s).
185 King St in Brevard, NC - attached to Noblebräu Brewing. Great yard area, and the line cooks play chess.
This is an area where I think Georgia breweries could do better. We have good enough weather most of the year we should have more beer gardens. I have two. Unfortunately, they are both too far away for me to be a regular. Bold Monk Brewing Co Tucker Brewing Co (the largest beer garden in GA)
I assume you saw this video https://www.2news.com/video/places-...deo_36d69b33-f490-5ab9-8dd3-6a30c90e2e0c.html I never knew about this place until I saw that segment on my evening news. I’ll have to check it out one of these days!
Yes, that was the video I watched. And it 'inspired' me to start this thread. Please let us know what you think of the place when you have the opportunity to visit. Prost!
Finding a Biergarten around Milwaukee is as easy as finding a place which sells bratwurst or frozen custard. In aptly named Germantown, WI there’s a fun Biergarten (Von Rothenburg Bierstube) which I will sometimes drink a maß and is my default option. When the weather is warmer (mid-May to October), parks around here will host pop-up Biergarten’s, usually with a local brewer hosting for a weekend. Milwaukee County Parks has a wonderful program during that time of year, which helps bring money to support the park system. https://county.milwaukee.gov/EN/Parks/Explore/Beer-Gardens
Yes. Notch. Such things exist even in semi-rural central New Hampshire. There are two of them close to my home... 10min away and 20 min away in nearby towns. This one is at a local farm...
Click that timer off, I'm here now. But I'm going to handicap myself 3 hours because I'm presently in California, and was out with family all day and haven't seen your post until now (7:10 pm PDT). Your's looks nice, but they better plant more trees and fertilize what's there. Too much sun for me. Here's my favorite: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/63872/?view=ratings I can't post a pic because I'm traveling, but maybe there are some scenes on their website. It doesn't open until May 1st, and I read they're going to have larger beer and food menus this year. I won't be home for three weeks, but I'll get there pretty quickly.
Wait until they open for the season and go then to takes notes for your review. The expanded beer and food menus should net a higher rating from you. (Not trying to influence you. )
Texas is the place for beer yards (or gardens if you prefer). I'm thinking of Austin with the big trees and room to roam.
I can’t remember if they had any vegetarian sausage options last year. I hope they start to offer some. Nothing beats a (veg) brat and a beer!
While Philly has a lot of nice outdoor beer spots and pop ups I prefer my back yard garden or a friends. Easy walking and good cheap beer. I just can’t get behind going downtown to drink beers. If I’m down there for other things it’s great to stop and have a beer but going down just to drink is long gone in my world. Cost and logistics just don’t add up. Enjoy
The 2024 menu is still posted on their website, and it says a veggie patty can be substituted for the schitznel. Maybe the new menu will be more innovative.
What makes a biergarten a biergarten? I know plenty of breweries with an outdoor space, but does that mean they have a biergarten? Perhaps a biergarten is simply in the eyes of the bierholder. I'll show myself out.
The internet says: “A biergarten, or beer garden, is a traditional German outdoor venue where people gather to enjoy beer and food, often with communal seating and a relaxed atmosphere.” Needless to say but a Biergarten can also be located in a non-Germany location (e.g., Rhode Island). Cheers!
Prost Brewing in Denver has 3 Biergartens currently and is opening a new one that is really close to where I live, so very excited for that. Their original one is near Downtown Denver, the 2nd one is in the southern suburbs, the third one is in the northern suburbs, and the new one close to me will be in the western suburbs. Maybe they will open on in the eastern suburbs and have the whole city covered!!! They do a really good job on their beers as well.
Most definitely. I went to a pile of breweries and beer-centric spots in Austin and a lot of them had biergartens that would make the Germans proud. They might be common in other areas, but they had the highest concentration of top-notch ones I've seen in the US. Out here in Denver we have a few good ones. The various Prost locations are pretty solid. Not great, but still pretty good. We also have the GVR Biergarten, Edgewater Biergarten, and Lowry Biergarten. I think there might be more of those, too. They're decent/authentic enough, although they're a bit pricey. You might think Bierstadt would, but they're going for a different vibe. It does work for 'em, though. One of the best ones in the region is the original Odell location up in Ft. Collins. It's centered around a big ass stone building, but there's biergarten-style outdoor seating stretching in all directions. It feels very much like what a truly American-style biergarten should IMO.
For local breweries in my area, I think it has to be Saint Arnold in Houston. Always solid beers, and really good food. The beer garden itself is pretty massive, and the fountain made from old brewing equipment is always a hit. They have been doing a tap room only lager lately, Pioneer Lager that is fantastic. Which is hopped all from Zatec, Czech Republic hops, with the Saaz hops from there, also on the slow pour.
Another I always go to when I travel up north to see my family is Riggs Beer Company, in Champaign/Urbana, IL. They make some really great German styles. The outdoor area is massive, and they farm lots of their grains. They grow their own wheat for the Hefe on site for example. My favorite is probably their Schwarzbier. A really underrated German style brewery IMO.
