Brewers notes : This delicious Stout carries notes of chocolate-dipped maple candies, creamy lattes, vanilla, and mellow oaky spice.

To be unhurried is to be unburdened. Humans are particularly suited to imagining scenarios, good and bad, that will never come to pass. In all the dreaming, worrying, and wishing for unknown futures, we sacrifice where life exists: now. Presence, and in turn, patience, can be cultivated but never mastered, only experienced within the dailiness of life. Moment of Patience is a blend of fresh Milk Stout and a small portion of its barrel-aged counterpart from our vast bourbon cellar. This decadent treat is brewed and conditioned with coffee, chocolate, and dark amber maple syrup. As the young beer left our cellar, it was introduced to its elders and blended with a small thread of barrel-aged stout. Pouring pitch black with a coffee head, aromas of chocolate-dipped maple candies and creamy lattes waft out of the glass. Underneath are softened flavors of American oak and notes of vanilla syrup. Rich but effortlessly drinkable, this beer is crafted to sipped with time out of mind.

Thick syrupy black liquid with a frothy kick , two fingers of overflowing brown foam fun

Whiff of maple , coffee, chocolate , cocoa

Taste is dark cocoa, coffee, maple , vanilla

    Surprisingly sudsy mouthfeel

    Sweet stout, good beer

Thick looking, clear and dark brown color; relatively thin and rather fizzy head that fades to a patchy presence. Dark chocolate and cacao nibs; faint woodiness. Full on chocolate brownie flavor with a decent presence of whiskey; dark roasted grain bitterness. Heavy body; thick and sticky; boozy warmth.

This is one of those beers that I wonder what it would taste like fresher. And this is not a complaint. As it is, the beer is quite tasty with its rich decadence oozing through its thick, viscous body. Yes, indeedy! This is a very memorable beer treat.

Hat tip to @GreenBayBA for getting this bus on the road.

Last night I went over to Legends, the clubhouse for the supporters of the Portland Timbers and Portland Thorns professional soccer teams, to watch the Timbers' match against LAFC down in Los Angeles. Home or away, the Timbers always play them well, and it was another entertaining and enjoyable match.

Legends has 9 taps which offer a wine, a cider, and a hard seltzer in addition to a half-dozen rotating beers. They also have a cooler with a variety of canned and bottled beverages, including the New Beer I had tonight.

    (Sorry, no picture this time.)

Silver Moon Mango Daze Pale Ale

This beer is gold-amber and not quite clear. The loose head of white foam up top doesn't last long and leaves spotty lacing. The nose is sweet and malty at first, then shows an unexpected wintergreen character. Underneath that is a muddled, fruity aroma that starts out sweet and then reveals a mango character which teeters precariously between overripe and rotten. There's also some vegetal funk that reminds me of cooked pumpkin. The flavor is largely the same: malt and caramel up front, followed by notes of wintergreen, warm mango nectar, the vegetal character, and Lipton tea. The body is heavier than it needs to be for its 6% strength, with an unexpected alcohol warmth. Overall, I didn't enjoy it much, and probably wouldn't try it again.

I liked this one a lot, even with all of the different barrel aging going here it all worked well. Still undecided if I'll have any more new brews tomorrow, we'll see. Cheers again!

I wasn't going to have a new beer today but this one has been staring at me out of the fridge for too long. Definitely a one and done purchase for me; just a weird combination for my palate.

Hopefully back with another new one tomorrow. Or a least an old one that needs a first review.

    Jack's Abby Porch Fest
    5.5% "festbier"

Pours pale gold with a three-finger bright white head that dissipates to a coating and ring.

Aromas of white bread, biscuit, honey, lemon and lemon zest, a bit of grapefruit, and some floral notes. Interesting interplay between the malt and hop character.

On the palate, this starts off as a classic pale lager: white bread with honey, cracker, biscuit and bread dough. About halfway through the sip, though, it transitions with a ton of citrus coming to the fore (primarily grapefruit) along with peach and slight lemon. The finish is dry grapefruit and some berries with moderate bitterness that lingers through the aftertaste.

Medium-light bodied with fine and moderate carb. Good feel; lively but not prickly.

Overall, this is an odd one. Starts off as a Helles and finishes more like an IPA. I can see why folks would enjoy it as a refreshing summer beer, but it's just not for me.

Over the past couple years, Chuckanut closed their original brewery/taproom in Bellingham, WA, and their short-lived taproom here in Portland, in order to divert resources to their production facility in Burlington, WA.

I was sorry to see the Bellingham and Portland locations close, but it sure is nice to see Chuckanut beers readily available here.

And I agree with you: their pilsner is top notch.

    Received a 2023 500 ml bottle from @muchloveforhops 2-16-24. Consumed 7-26-25.

Beer poured black with a nice tan head.

Nose is very nice as i am getting deeply roasted malts that give a hint of dark cocoa and some coffee beans. From the barrels i am getting some wood.

Taste is near perfection for the RIS style. The heavy roasted malt base gives me 70% dark cocoa and espresso beans i remember getting from Trader Joes back in the day. The barrels bring a lot of wood and a very faint trace of vanilla. Finish is heavily hopped eliminating all sweetness.

Mouthfeel is good, medium bodied and smooth but not super viscous like many high gravity brews are.

Overall, a super RIS example! Thanks for the opportunity to try Doug!
    Cheers!

Refrigerated at home until opening this afternoon. 4.5% ABV Traditional German Style beer. Malts: Pils, Vienna, Dextrin. Hops: Nugget, Hersbrucker. Secret Ingredients: Applewood Dried Malt. Brewed and canned by Off Color Brewing, Chicago, Illinois.

Appearance: Poured about a third of the 16 oz can into a small Stange glass, yielding a crystal clear straw base, light slow motion carbonation, and a bubbly head that leaves minimal soapy lacing and a light cover over most of the base, concentrated around the rim. 4.0

    Aroma:
Medium plus cracker and pepper then salt. Nice enticing aroma. 4.0

    Taste:
More sweet bread with perhaps sweet butter, lso get the applewood, Paired with a Superdawg it's a little more balanced, with the beef and condiments balancing out the sweetness. 3.75, Add a 0.25 paired with the Hot Dog.

Mouthfeel: Gentle carbonation, drinks really light and easy. Sweet, more balanced and a nice compliment to the Superdawg with everything. Sweet buttered bread with honey finish. 4.0

Overall: This is a good Kolsch style beer. Light and subtle, but still packs a good amount of flavor. Less sweetness is the one change I would seek. 3.75

16oz can served in a curvy Monhegan pint glass. Can is dated 06/18/25. Bought it about a week ago at Chuck's Hop Shop Seward Park.

Pours clear light yellow, medium sized head sustained by a pretty substantial level of carbonation. Smell is nice, soft, grain and grass, bread yeast with a hint of flowers.

Taste is perfectly in line with it, somehow adding in a subtle vanilla cream note that only serves to enhance the lovely light flavors. Nice crisp grassy/earthy bitter finish.

Mouthfeel is light, airy, fluffy. This is an excellent beer.

Well, here we are again, another weekend and more new beers. It’s been fun reading the banter and beers thus far and now I get to join the fun with a beer from, and at, my favorite brewery on earth. I will also join @beergoot with a rice lager.

A new draft only one from Tonewood, a 3.8% Jasmine rice lager, hopped with mandarina bavaria and lemon drop…

Tonewood - Birdie (Adjunct Lager 3.8%)

Pours with excellent clarity, white head, lightly sudsy with a very pleasing amount of lace, above average retention, very nice looking beer.

The nose is beautifully floral and delicate; touch of white bread, a light underlying yellow citrus note seals the deal.

Taste mirrors the nose mostly; there is white bread, if it was baked fresh; followed by light lemony and floral notes, restrained sweetness, the floral note lingers nicely in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel, along with aroma, steal the show on this beer; light bodied, lightest bit of sweetness, with a zippy and dry finish; low bitterness with light tongue snapping hop presence; highest of drinkabilities.

Beers like this are why I can’t help but overrate numerically; so light and drinkable but all you have to do is sit back and admire the nuance… so balanced and delicate that you can’t help but be amazed, great floral character.

Thanks for bringing another beauty to life Tonewood crew!

I was interested in this beer when I was there last Saturday, and so glad I got a crawler of it filled. It is quite tasty. It is slightly thin, but it really doesn't knock it down much at all.

From a 750ml crawler purchased at the brewery. Filled on 7-19-2025.

The beer is very dark pouring in the glass - pretty much pitch black in color. No clarity to the beer. There's a 1 finger tan colored head that has decent retention to it, but no lacing on the glass.
The aroma is dominated by the malts. I am getting a nice hit of chocolate on my nose. The chocolate does have some hints of being roasted, and is more of a dark chocolate. There's hints of a creamy character to it, and some lactose and some sweetness to it.
Taste - The flavor does start out with the chocolate being more sweet than the nose let on, but it is not over the top sweetness. There's a creamy lactose component to the beer flavor, that is quite creamy. The back does get more into a roasted dark chocolate flavor, with just a touch of bitterness on the finish.
The body does seem a bit thin, though it is quite creamy and smooth feeling.
Well I would say that this beer is a winner. Even the slight thinness isn't really much of a knock against it.

This may be it for tonight, just not sure I'll have another in me. If not, see you all tomorrow and I'll be headed to a brewery I have enjoyed in the past, but they've announced that they're closing. Cheers all!

I saw that @scott451 posted this one earlier today. I grabbed one of these at the brewery earlier this week and thought I’d have this one this evening too.

This is Golden Mild English Pale Mild. This is a collaboration between Common Good, Bickford and Chang-Sang Estates brewery. Chang-Sang Estates is a small home brewing operation in a bungalow in Scarborough Ontario. I don’t know the man, but I do know he has received a tonne of accolades for his beers. The label indicates that the beer was brewed at Common Good which is where I bought it.

Pours a turbid copper brown with a light head that dissipates to nothing fairly quickly. No lacing to speak of. Minimal observable carbonation.

Toasted bread, bread crusts and a slight grassy note on the nose.

Mildly sweet toasted brown bread, light wisp of caramel and those light grassy notes on the tongue.

Body is light. Light carbonation. Eminently drinkable.

This is a good example of a style that I’m finding more and more often locally. I’d be happy to have again.

Off Color Brewing Barrel-Aged Growl Royale. A collaboration with Binny's liquor store. A Belgian-style quadruple ale, blended with bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout. 10% ABV. This falls under the category of I'm not sure @GrumpyGas wanted this to remain untouched during and after our bottle share, but I am not going to not drink it, sitting next to my friend, @ChicagoJ, at the virtual bar. We are both experiencing some amazing Chicagoland beers, and cheering for the Chicago White Sox. Jason, I still owe you so many beers. The look is pitch black, with a light brown foam that was initially thick, but disappeared too quickly for me to capture on film. The smell is sweet, with toffee, coffee, peach, green apple, and donut scents. The taste is green apple, toffee, bourbon, and Smarties candy. The mouthfeel is oily, silky, smooth, and full, with light-medium carbonation. Overall, this is a surprise. Green apple flavor takes over, but delightfully so. I enjoyed it. It is very enjoyable, in this special moment. Let's go, go-go, White Sox!

Poured into a 16 oz Snulip glass canned on 7/16/25. Pours a very attractive hazy almost milky yellow with a finger sticky white head that leaves thick streaks of lace with nice retention. 4.75

Aroma is passionfruit, peach, tangerine, papaya, and apricot extremely pleasant. 4.5

Taste follows passionfruit, peach, tangerine, papaya, and apricot extremely well balanced. 4.5

Mouthfeel is above average, soft gentle almost creamy carbonation, not sticky or dry, and at 8.2% it plenty of flavor, but goes extremely easy. 4.5

Overall this one brewed with Citra and Most hops is absolutely delish. This place drops excellent hazy DDH beers all the time and sadly I don’t see them getting props often. Quality products at a great price. 4.5 Cheers all.

16oz can served in a stemless BA rastal. Dated 02/03/25. Bought it a couple weeks ago at Beer Junction.

Pours clear light gold, small head, moderate carbonation in a very fine form. Smell is green grass and floral, stems and a little fresh cut wood. Jasmine, grain husk and bread crust.

Taste is much stronger on the grass and stem bitterness, lemon makes an appearance. Grain husk and bread crust are still there.

Mouthfeel is very light, crisp, clean, noticeable prickly effervescence. Very nice.
