    Guiness/ timmermans limbic and stout
....an almost solid black appearance with the edges having a dark ruby color
...very light carbonation with about a medium body. Slight bit of an oily slick feel which added to an overall nice feel
...aroma is lambic upfront, funk, alchohol even though the abv isn't that high. The typical aroma of a limbic seems mellowed by what I assume the stout is bringing to the table.
...taste doesn't stray too far from the aroma. Tastes like a good lambic with a bit of stout added which added an odd but pleasant maltiness to this
...overall an interesting beer, not sure it needed to happen but good nonetheless [IMG]

You're talking to the wrong guy, I think. I'm the BA who is wondering where all bitterness in beer comes from. I'm now assuming all bitterness in beer comes from hops since it can't come from the yeast in any way or fashion.

071425. Poured into a Samuel Adams Perfect Pint.

A: Slightly hazy gold with 1-2 fingers of frothy white lace with good retention and bands of lacing.

S: Fruity but lower intensity aroma with pineapple, guava, orange, and lime with some pine nuances. Reasonable amount of fruity esters.

T: Flavor also fruity and a notch better than the aroma with similar fruity notes of guava nectar, pineapple, passion fruit, orange, and lime with mild-moderate fruity esters with light bubble gum. Bitterness is low.

M: Feel is solid with light-medium body and dry finish.

O: Half Acre Bodem IPA is definitely a modern American IPA with fruit-forward character and some esters I think detract a bit from the overall package.

We had SAN Friday night and a new guy showed up with a cooler of beer that made me weep. Amazing selection and not a one was available in Michigan.
He was in Chicago earlier that day and picked up a 2 pack of these:
We didn’t get to these during the night but I wanted to. So here it is tonight.
Had to put it into the database, apparently it’s new, and not just to me.
This pour is used oil black with a dark chocolate color head that strives to reach a centimeter in height but fails. No lacing to speak of, but I really appreciated the dark chocolate head.
The aroma was actually noticeable for me, which is rare. Mostly vanilla bean is what I got and it was nice.
The taste is full on imperial stout with its chocolate notes and coffee flavors, toasted bread and worn leather. Vanilla enters the picture and trades places with the bourbon off and on. If I could taste the candy cap mushrooms I wasn’t aware.
The feel is nicely viscous; this is a sipping beer.
OA, this was a gift and I enjoyed it, sorry I couldn’t taste the mushrooms.
This will do it for me tonight, back tomorrow.
    Cheers all!

From @RochefortChris Zebulon Ales Traditional Imperial Stout circa 1850 ( with East Kent Golding Hops, Marris Otter, Brown & Black malts ). 11.0% ABV; 4.6 overall

Pours an effervescent chestnut/mahogany with 2 fingers of mocha colored head. Above average head retention, stellar lacing & very viscous

S: Roasty, dark Choclate, smokey & caramel, some vanilla notes once warmed up. Boozy notes late along with treacle/brown sugar

T: Follows the nose, also molasses, charred grains & dryness & woody hops up front. Charred grains, Baker's Chocolate & dryness as this beer warms up along with leafy hop notes. Finishes very roasty, some cocoa notes, fairly dry with a touch of molasses, leafy hops, coffee & licorice on the edge of the tongue

    MF: Chewy, subtle carbonation, warming

An in-your-face old school, drinking with the Czars Old School Imperial Stout that delivers across the board

I like the Meatchurch rubs, but I am a ***** & tend to find some new shiny object. Nothing has just blown me away on dry rubs. I do need some brown sugar for pork though

Had a wonderful day at Pure Project, Alesmith, and The Bruery. So many new beers! The first, and maybe the best, was this one. Planifolia (Batch 5) from Pure Project.

Poured motor oil black from tap. A tiny layer of head. The nose is dominated by vanilla, but bourbon came through as well.

The taste is amazing. Bourbon, chocolate, slightly roasted malts, and a nice nutty note. Thick and creamy mouthfeel. The stouts from Pure Project are almost always fantastic. Love this one a lot (so much that I grabbed a bottle).

I'll get you some Novak's if we can work it out. You'll stop f-ing around with B.S. after you smoke ribs or chicken with Novak's on it. Nobody knows what's in it, and nobody who's ever used it cares. We just make the trip to El Campo, TX, and buy a pound or two at a time.

My local Pharmacist is Costco. They are a preferred provider for my Medicare D coverage. . The Part D price for a 90 day supply of generic Celebrex is $500! Costco every day price is $22. This week I paid $0.83 total for two prescriptions after a minor hospital procedure. They are pretty friendly and serve non-members (slight price premium). They aren't 5 minutes away but no wait most times when I get there. .

Tonight I sampled Garavogue Irish Stout from Dancing Gnome in Pittsburgh, PA. 4.2% dry stout was my choice to drink for a recent fantasy football draft and I had another can left so here we go!

    onto my review:

Sampling a 16 oz can at cellar temp with a date stamp of 01/31/2025. Pouring into my snifter, picked up the beer at a shop in Pennsylvania.
The beer pours a cola brown into my glass and rests slightly darker in the glass.
A dense creamy beige head of 2.5 cm foams up and slowly fades, but never disappears. I have a sturdy surface covering throughout the sampling. Tight lattice forms from each sip and swirl.
Aroma is lightly chocolate , but not sweet, and also a bit of roasted malt but not over powering. I get a little earthy or herbal tea on the nose too form hops. Not any booze hint whatso ever.
First sip reveals a light body with very fine and tingly carbonation. Texture is smooth and this beer drinks very easy. Quite nice drinking brew. Flavor is similar to the nose with some light chocolate, more of a cocoa powder note and some roasted hits again, no sweetness and hops are minimal here with also no hints of the ABV. I believe I get a little chalky note too.
Easy drinking straightforward stout, I had several of these for a fantasy football draft and drank one can tonight to post this review.
This is a solid sessionable stout, would definitely buy again.

This is a 3.9% English-Style Nut Brown Ale Bizarre Brewing in Seattle.

Quite sudsy and lively on the tongue. Aroma is straw and green grass. Slightly sweet to start with a bitter and winey finish. Tastes of roasted malt with a big dose of earthy hops and grain. Caramel in the aftertaste along with the hoppy bitter herbal tang. Dated 8/6/24, so it's right on it's first birthday.

Happy 3 Day weekend! Remember, this was brought to you by the Labor Movement. :heavymetal:
I am enjoying the heck out of this one from our beloved @Ozzylizard
Actually poured into my Weyerbacher glass, also sent by him about 15 years ago.
    Jormungandr's

Dark amber to almost leather in hue. A firm tan head builds to almost 2 fingers. Great retention. Clumpy lacing.
Aroma pumps rye. Earthy, peppery, flexing rye. There is an almost fruity, deep brown bread malt note that also chimes in. And the hops are definitely carrying some pine, citrus, and overall earthy dry bitterness.
Flavor follows the nose beautifully. But there is a certain meaty malt bill that gives a hefty blanket of subdued, low level sweetness. There's also a smooth, gentle smoky note that comes in slowly.
Medium weight on the mouthfeel with mild carbonation and a firm, earthy pine-meets-citrus rind bitterness to finish.
Overall, rye is the star. God bless the rye.

The end of an enjoyable, but busy summer is nigh. I’ll be spending much of the day running around town collecting school uniforms and school supplies. Thankfully, my wife was able to borrow her cousin’s cottage for most of last week giving us one last relaxing stretch before the rest of the year begins. We were up in Haliburton which is about 2.5 hour drive north of the city. There are a couple breweries up there, neither of which distributes much of their offerings south to the city. So, I was happy to be able to purchase a broad assortment of beers to enjoy over the next couple weeks.

First up, from later last night is Haliburton Forest Amber Logger, an amber lager from Boshkung Brewing of Minden, Ontario. I bought these at their lovely pub in ‘downtown’ Minden. Great looking brewery with a nice cottage country vibe. Sadly, we were on our way back when I had time to stop in, so just grabbed cans to go.

Pours a deep mahogany with a fairly large and lively head. This dissipates slowly, leaving a thin ring around the beer’s edge after many minutes. No lacing to speak of.

The aroma is large with heavy caramel, brown bread, and bitter herbal notes. The can indicates a blend of five malts used to give the beer its bold malty character.

The taste is similar. Lots of fresh brown bread, caramel, burnt toffee, bitter herbs. Malty is an understatement. Very nice.

The body is lighter than the taste would suggest. Moderate carbonation.

I really enjoyed this. I don’t drink enough malt forward lagers. This was a nice start to my cottage country beer haul.

Once shopping is completed, I’ll try to share another one of these.

@Beersnake . I’m looking forward to more of your Montreal haul tastings.

    Cheers all!
