Interesting. I wonder what the brewer feels triple dry hopping adds to the flavor profile.

Dry hopping just adds aroma, not flavor or bitterness. Not sure what "triple" dry hopping is beyond a marketing gimmick. Maybe 3 different hop varieties?

Is this universally known to be the case? I was always under the impression that additional dry hopping adds flavor and bitterness.

As you probably are aware, fresh hop producers here in the PNW typically make fh beers by either dry hopping or adding fresh hops on the hot side. The former would seem to be pointless if what you say is true. I would also add that...

North Park out of San Diego makes both a ddh and a tdh hop version of their hop fu ipa. There's definitely a flavor difference in the two beers.

The process can add some flavor (dependent on the hop varietal), but no bitterness.

That actually seems more consistent with my own experiences, though I'm still surprised to hear it doesn't add bitterness. I typically expect an ipa/dipa that has been double or triple dry hopped to have additional bitterness. It seems as if many breweries market the process accordingly.

This has been my expectation. Aroma/flavor enhancement without additional bitterness.

The brewer doesn't admit to which hops were used, but I didn't find the stuff very aromatic, and to me "thin and really bitter" gets old quickly.

I haven't had a lot of experience with this one but what I have was never disappointing.

Sorry to read that. Yes, Augustiner Lagerbier Hell is indeed best enjoyed fresh.

The date code is not something I can remember so I have a small piece of paper (i.e., a cheat sheet) that I keep in my wallet. I first discussed this beer in a NBW post back in June 2024. The beer I purchased was bottled April 17, 2024 so that beer was just a couple/few months old when I drank it. I discussed this beer in a NBW post:

    "Overall:

I enjoyed drinking this beer, it is very good. It is malt forward with the quality that German’s describe as süffig (has great drinkability)."

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/new-beer-weekend-204.677560/#post-7999532

One aspect I neglected to mention in my post was this beer has a subtle, but noticeable, aroma of SO2 on the nose upon the initial pour; a smell of matchstruck. I enjoy this subtle aspect in this beer.

You made mention of the high price of this beer which is an 'issue' IMO. I am fortunate that the importer of Augustiner beer (Global Village Imports) rents office space at my local Retail Beer Distributor and my guess is they cut this retailer a break on price (a direct sale?) and a six-pack of Augustiner Lagerbier Hell is $10.99 at my store.

This past summer I purchased another six-pack of this beer and it was quite fresh (i.e., only a few months from the bottling date).

    Cheers!

I brought this one back from my trip to Germany in September after touring the brewery. It was room temp in the brewery's store, and has been refrigerated since arriving home. It is 12% abv, and has a Best Before date of 03-24-35. (Yes, 2035.) I expected it to be a concentrated taste of a doppelbock, and that's exactly what I got. A bit rough tasting when it was cold but it smoothed out as it warmed.

Two beers with a mid-afternoon lunch today at Territorial Brewing. The Big Yellow Truck Pilsner and Finsterschaf Schwarzbier. Both as good as any that I've had recently.

Thanks for your thoughts. That is a nice price for sure!
The bottle code thread i found is from May 2021 and is based on a collaborative effort by Advocates: https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/date-codes-for-imported-usa-german-beer.658248/
Earlier today, i enjoyed a nice Helles from Fox Farm in Connecticut that i picked up while volunteering at an early November festival in Greenville, SC.

My local market/beer store/tavern had a lobster roll food truck advertised today so I had to go. The taplist in the tavern had a couple of lagers from a Detroit-area brewery (Florian East Lagers & Ales) that I haven't experienced yet, so my wife and I each chose one - a Vienna Lager and a Czech Amber Lager. Both were very good.

Here's another one from everywhere, a Rice Lager called "glowing into."

Mildly aromatic with apricot and alfalfa. There is a pleasant hoppy note that adds a touch of astringency to the finish. Sudsy mouthfeel. Then a peculiar old orange taste comes on with straw with citrus in the nose. Alright, if the hops are Peacharine then pick your own fruit. Overall, this is an interesting example of an American Rice Lager, but the hops become overbearing and there is very little malt or rice flavor.

Enjoying a mostly well-crafted triple decoction Czech Pilsner from Alternate Ending in New Jersey. Unfortunately, the peppercorn bitterness is way too strong even for this hop head.
