    Hello New Beer Weekend!!!

It is midnight board time, so it is again time for the virtual bar to start up again. Pull up a seat, talk about life and interests with the fellow patrons. The main thing is to review new beer, and I'm starting off with one that @snaotheus sent me.

I am not a big fan of dank. The smell is quite annoying to me. That being said, this beer is tasty. I like the pineapple cutting the dank down a notch, and making it not over the top. Quite tasty, and I'm so thankful it was sent to me. Thank you @snaotheus

From a 16oz can, no date on the can.

This beer pours a semi clear golden color. There's a good stream of carbonation bubbles rising in the glass. The head that forms is a 3 finger frothy looking head. Decent head retention, and a small bit of lacing on the glass.
The aroma is dank. Now the dankness isn't overpowering, but is strong. I also get a faint pineapple kick from the aroma.
The flavor is also dank tasting. The dankness is cut by a nice hit of pineapple flavor, which adds a hit of sweetness, but is mostly bitter.
The body is decent. The feeling from the bitterness lingers in my throat. I am burping up hops like crazy here.
I am not the biggest dank fan, and it can be taken too far in a beer. This beer is probably just about right, and not over the top.

I should have one more in me tonight. Cheers!

Thanks for kicking us off, @Victory_Sabre1973 ! My first new beer of the weekend is Toppling Waters from Central Waters and Toppling Goliath. A monster stout that was "aged in maple barrels, bourbon barrels, then double barreled into fresh bourbon barrels and lastly sent to slumber for two long years". Comes in at 17% ABV!

Poured at fridge temp, but allowed to warm for a little while before tasting. Pours a pretty thick black with a very thin layer of brown head. The nose is excellent. Huge notes of maple, chocolate, vanilla, and bourbon. Wow. Definitely some roasted malts in there as well. Maybe some brown sugar and burnt toffee. Just a delight to sniff.

The taste is quite a beast. Took one sip and the flavors kept evolving on the palate for about 20 seconds. My goodness there is a lot here. Burnt maple, huge bourbon, dark chocolate, oak, biscuits, molasses, vanilla, blackberry jam, and a hint of black licorice.

The mouthfeel is perfectly smooth. Not overly thick and not thin. Great aftertaste of bourbon and maple. Lovely beer overall.

Port city pizza night. Thought I had this one before but no review
...dark amber appearance with a thin white head
. Both body and carbonation register as about medium
..aroma is malt, grain, cereal, with a toasted bread/grain as well.
..taste has some mild sweetness but theres some earthy almost dry like bitterness that adds to the flavor as well as keeping the sweetness in check.
...as advertised it does go well with pizza but would work well in several situations [IMG]

I might be making minor amendments to my review but here are my first impressions of Bois, the Bruery’s anniversary old ale from 2013. Cheers!

750mL into a tulip. Pours a nearly carbonation-free deep mahogany with zero head.

Aroma is big and sticky-sweet. Caramel, toffee, brown sugar, booze. Vanilla and subtle spice. Rum-soaked black cherries, figs, dates.

Taste is likewise sweet and complex. Molasses, rum, caramel, vanilla, dark sticky stone fruits. Brown sugar, vanilla.

Mouthfeel is heavy and chewy, coating. Lingering aftertaste, warming as it goes down.

Overall a very tasty, complex dessert beer. About what I expected, and similar to other Bruery anniversary old ales. Delicious.

    Hell yes!

Today’s beer is not only a new beer for me but is also a ‘new’ beer for America: Augustiner Lagerbier Hell.

The US importer for Augustiner beers is Global Village Imports and this company rents office space from my local Retail Beer Distributor (which is less than a mile from my house). For the longest time they only imported two beer brands from Augustiner: Edelstoff (an Export version of a Helles) and Maximator (Doppelbock). But sometime recently they now import the Augustiner Helles which is labeled as Lagerbier Hell.

The ’good news’ for me is that I am able to purchase Augustiner beers, including this ‘new’ brand, at fairly reasonable prices. I paid $10.99 for this six-pack. From reading BA threads it appears that Augustiner beers can be quite pricey elsewhere. Maybe I can get it cheaper since my Retail Beer Distributor get it ‘directly’ vs. going through a Wholesale Distributor?

I am quite excited to try this new beer so enough jibber-jabber.

Served in my Spiegelau Lager beer glass:

    Appearance:

Light golden colored with a white head which dissipated fairly quickly.

    Aroma:

The aroma is mostly a sweet-ish Pilsner malt.

    Taste:

The flavor follows the nose with a sweet-ish Pilsner Malt flavor. There is a low bitterness.

    Mouthfeel:

Medium bodied with a dry finish.

    Overall:

I enjoyed drinking this beer, it is very good. It is malt forward with the quality that German’s describe as süffig (has great drinkability).

    Cheers!

I have a similar perspective here but depending on the level of intensity and the other flavors in the beer I can enjoy it.

    Cheers!

Thanks for the opening @Victory_Sabre1973 your post motivated me to open a new one. I say this cause I too still have a few more beers from @snaotheus, let’s just see how many beers from him we can all fit in this weekend? Here is my addition…

    Machine House - Black Lager

Pours dark cola brown, nice clarity; white head with light shades of brown; spongy looking, collapses to leave some clumps here and there.

Nose is milk chocolate, light bready malt, faint toast; earthy hop character.

Taste is milk dud chocolate like; some light toast, light English hop character, brown leafy; little roast presents itself upon warming, mostly on the finish.

Light to medium body; very soft, lightly carbonated, silky, some light-moderate bitterness on the finish, clean with some light linger sweetness.

Cool little beer thanks for sharing @snaotheus has lager character as well as English beer character, mostly in mouthfeel, carbonation and softness.

    ————————

I hope to be back tomorrow with another new one. In the meantime share something new in your glass tonight.

I would recommend you contact them now and ask about this beer/drop. My beer was bottled in April and for the Helles beer style the fresher the better.

    Cheers!

Super excited this week since my favorite brewery is back in business! It's been 2 years and a few months since the last new beer from these guys, and it's been about 1 year since I last had one of their beers (while sharing with @Victory_Sabre1973 @GreenBayBA @LesDewitt4beer @cheeseheadinMinneapolis )

    Hammerheart Nordland
    [IMG]
Appearance: Clear yellow gold, good head.

    Smell: Light smoke, mild grass.

Taste: Light sweetness, followed by bread, then finishes with light smoke and bread in the finish. Extremely drinkable.

Overall: Welcome back Hammerheart! This is a subtly smoked kveik pseudo lager that reminds me of Schlenkerla Helles. The smoke is there, but in the background. A great beer for summer!

Think, black, oily looking pour, one finger brown head, some spotty lacing and film. Booze is forefront on the nose, vanilla, cacao, molasses, some char. Flavors are similar, alot going on, all of good. Thick body provides a creamy mouthfeel.

All right, final beer of the night, and it's one from Blackstack Brewing.

I do like the flavor of this beer. It has a very nice hop flavor and a bit of an oat like flavor. The problem is the aroma seems so lacking and a bit muddled to me. I think this beer is fresh, and it came in yesterday, so I don't know what the issue is here.

From a 16oz can with no date.

This is a very juicy looking beer. Very murky and hazy looking, and a light yellow color. The head is a frothy 2 finger white head. The head retention is quite good. There's some good lacing on the glass.
Aroma is hop centric. There's a bit of tropical here, though, at the same time, it seems muted. I get some mango here, but not a lot, and I know the beer isn't old, because it just came in.
Taste - Ok, the flavor is way more than the nose let on. Tons of mango hit my throat in this beer. I also get a oat flavor in here, and I'm guessing oats were used in the beer for the body.
The beer is soft, and I'm guessing oats were used to make it so from the flavor. Juicy and silky feeling.
While the aroma is lacking, the flavor is not. Damn tasty overall.

I should be back tomorrow night after work for one. Cheers all!

I nearly filled my pants doin' the Safety Dance when I saw the price. And at this price I'll only ever buy it once here and have only seen it at one store thus far. I enjoy this style of beer quite a bit and it's new-to-me so I was willing to bite the bullet. **I always remember that I get free beers if I want them at my drumming events. Things even out.
