Most of the beer holidays seem to me to be a promotional vehicle for brands, with the holiday set up by the brewery and/or importer/distributor. Not a bad thing in some cases, as with Orval Day, to remind some of us about this amazing beer. I think I prefer the more general beer holidays such as National IPA Day that allow greater participation of bars, stores, breweries etc., and to draw in a wider audience.

    This is the correct answer.

Dovetail in Chicago does a great job celebrating some lesser known European beer traditions, it's a blast. I just wished I lived closer. (My liver and wallet are glad I don't live closer).

I always wanted to go to Huna day. I've been to two Zwanze days; one was amazing and the other was meh.

I'm the exact opposite. I like when someone tells me, "You! Drink this on this day.".

And then I'm all like, "Fuckin' too right, I will!!!!"

How about beer30. It's my favorite time of the day. Sounds like a holiday to me.

    Little Zwanze Day recap.

Showed up at Golden Age Beer Company | Homestead, PA | Reviews | BeerAdvocate right at 11:30, to thankfully find only a short line.

Grabbed a seat at the end of the bar and a beer, their Zwanze Pilsner (Pils with 3 year old hops), and waited for the line to run its course.

They had the following on offer:

    Cuvée Saint-Gilloise | Brasserie Cantillon | BeerAdvocate
Fou' Foune | Brasserie Cantillon | BeerAdvocate
Gueuze 100% Lambic | Brasserie Cantillon | BeerAdvocate
Saint Lamvinus | Brasserie Cantillon | BeerAdvocate
Sang Bleu | Brasserie Cantillon | BeerAdvocate
Vigneronne - Viognier Grapes | Brasserie Cantillon | BeerAdvocate

Since I had just had Fou, Gueuze, and Sang Bleu, I went with the other three and wasn't disappointed. Unsurprisingly, St. Lamvinus was the star of the show. Only stayed about an hour, but it was a good time.

If you went, how did your Zwanze go? Where did you go? Did you try the 2 special Zwanze beers? If so, what did you think of them?

Orval Day and Baltic Porter Day are the only two that manage to stay on my radar. If I’m aware of any others on their day I may be swayed to fit the theme, but don’t think about it ahead of time.

No local breweries have claimed a day for one of their beers, but I could see myself participating if they did.

I always drink 3 beers on a 3-day weekend of a holiday. I drink a beer Friday, Sunday, and Monday if the holiday is on Monday. It's good to get out of the routine... So for me it's always extra beer holiday

    AI Overview

St. Augustine of Hippo’s feast day, often associated with beer and brewing, is celebrated on August 28. He is considered a patron saint of brewers due to his early life of "loose living," which included enjoying wine and parties before his conversion. The day is marked by enjoying beer, acknowledging his transformation. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Key Aspects of St. Augustine and Beer:
    • Feast Day: August 28, the day he died in 430 AD.
    • Patronage: He is the patron saint of brewers, theologians, and those struggling with vices.
    • Significance: Before becoming a theologian and Doctor of the Church, Augustine led a hedonistic life, making him a relatable figure for brewers.
    • Celebration: Many celebrate his day by drinking ale or beer, a tradition often linked to the end of summer and the beginning of the printers' festivities (as he is also th

Good summary of beer holidays. Although a few are added in that are not specific to beer (Independence Day, Super Bowl Sunday for ex.) where we will be drinking beer just because. St. Patrick's Day, goes without saying. And I like that they included the most celebrated day regarding beer, Oktoberfest!

While NYE belongs to champagne, surprised that it wasn't included, as there is a lot of beer consumed before and after the midnight toast.

And anyone that's been in Philly on New Year's Day knows that a ton of beer is consumed on 2 street and at the Mummer's parade on that day.

Besides by birthday, saison day is the biggest beer day of the year for me. Throughout the year I’ll collect bottles just for saison day. Whether it be something extra special like keeping together, floodlands, is/was, or scratch or something like side project table beer, grisette, or saison du ble. I always have off color apex pred and saison DuPont though.

Probably not weird that he's my patron saint. His feast day is my birthday. :sunglasses:
