An IPA that is lagered is quite a conundrum, but I think I get the point being as JA is a Lagership. The overall experience definitely leans towards IPA as the pilsner malt doesn't weigh more than the hop attitude overall. There are moments of juiciness that lead into a light bodied citrus forward IPA with decent bitterness. Some fruity notes such as peach, lemon, and tangerine can be ascertained. This is easy drinking and enjoyable. Citra, Mosaic, and Galaxy play about without one overwhelming the other very much, although if I had to pick one I'd say Citra flavors are most prevalent. Overall a formidable hoppy lager/ale that is interesting and leans closer to WCIPA than NEIPA....while being a lager...or ale. IDK!

An old beer to me, but I still like it.
I’m not sure I would call this an IPA, but again, I like it.
Drinking out of a small snifter.
Pours a clear mahogany with essentially no head.
Smells boozy, with hints of malt.
Good, not great, mouth feel. Smooth
Malt forward. Sweet taste of dark caramel. Boozy overall.

Hommage à la Fin du Monde from Godspeed Brewery

This is an interesting one. It's a take on Unibroue's "Fin du Monde", a Belgian Triple

From a 355ml can packaged on 5 Nov 2025. Poured into a tulip. A three finger off white head on a slightly hazy amber. Some tiny floaties. Excellent head retention. A thin layer sticks around to the end. Lots of foamy lacing.

Some spice in the nose. Some phenols. Tastes of sweet malts and bready yeast, overlaid with ripe fruit. Banana and clove. the ABV is well hidden. Finishes slightly sweet.

A surprisingly creamy texture for a Triple. Medium body and carbonation. Overall a solid Belgian Triple, rivalling it's Unibroue namesake. Well worth a try.

Mainly clear, dark amber pour with a trace of cloudiness; coarse carbonation yet thick head, dense, off-white, long-lasting plus fat sheets and rings of foam clinging to the glass. Fine, toasted grain sweetness to the nose. Well-balanced taste; muted and nuanced yet relatively complex; mild toffee notes; not much bitterness; very subdued booziness; minor suggestion of barrel wood. Medium-heavy body; smooth, dense, sticky and velvety; late note of alcohol warmth, lingering.

I was expecting a rather boozy beer with notes of being a Belgian tripel. This wasn't the case. While one can detect a slight resemblance to a tripel, the beer itself seems pure American in nature. The overall high point has to be the overall subtlety of the beer and its complexity. The nature of this beer demands sipping and absorbing its components. On the surface, this could seem like a malty sipper beer, but the relatively high ABV and the barrel-aging are sly, both in their detectable presence and overall effect. This beer grows on you in micro-step ways. The accumulative experience is deeply rewarding. No, the beer doesn't hammer you outright, it eases you in and leaves surprisingly pleased with its overall character.

    Hello New Beer Weekend!!!

I'll start off by wishing Ian @superspak a speedy recovery from the kidney stone. I had one 23 years ago and it was pure hell.

The 2nd thing is @Beersnake 's question. I really have no family into beer. I am single, so no wife to share one with. I do hit up breweries with friends and that is a lot of fun. I mention Tim from time to time. He is a lot of fun to go to places with.

Now to my new beer tonight.
Air - Inbound BrewCo - Minneapolis, MN - American Blonde Ale - 5% ABV

This is downright delicious. Such a great flavor. The only knock is the aroma is very light, though, what I do get smells delicious.

    From a 16oz can. Canned on 04/09/2026

This beer has a slightly murky look to it and a nice golden color. There's a cyclone of carbonation bubbles in my glass. There's a 2 finger off white head to this beer that has a nice fluffy look to it. The head retention is great, and there's some good lacing on the glass.
The aroma is light, but has a slight hint of hops in it. The hops have a citrus character to them. There's also a very faint malt hint to this beer.
Up front this beer is extremely malty. I get a very huge hit of a buttery biscuit hit right away. This flavor profile ends abruptly and it goes full on into the hops. The hops start out leaning toward citrus. The hops then turn toward pine on the finish with a nice bitterness.
The beer has a very nice feeling to it. There's a creamy feeling in this beer. There's a nice thickness and depth to it. There's a nice feeling to the bitterness and it lingers. I am surprised I am not getting much of a bubbly feeling to this beer, considering how much it looked carbonated.
I am really enjoying this very well made beer. Damn solid and delicious.

Probably only one new beer tonight, because, while I do have a lot of beer in my fridge, there's only 2 new beers to me there. I will be on the road for a bit tomorrow, but there will be beer reviews from the road. Cheers all!

Double Barrel Wisdom from Barreled Souls. Aged in Henry McKenna bourbon and then Barton 1792 bourbon. Total of 25 months an 15 days. This is a collab with Horus. 15.8% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a dark brown with minimal head. The nose is super bourbon forward. Toffee, booze, vanilla, slight sherry note, raspberry, brown sugar, raisins, figs.

The taste nicely follows the nose. Fantastic stuff. Sweet bourbon, raisins, sticky toffee pudding, figs, plums, vanilla, maple, caramelized sugar, molasses, and loads of malts. Just amazing stuff.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a sweet bourbon and toffee aftertaste. Overall, this is just another fantastic beer from the Barreled Souls team in Maine.

Nice..... I thought I had reviewed this one- 4.81 from me! When I checked in here on BA last night we had already said good night to Ryan - great talking to him. We also ran into Chloe - they have such a good team cranking out these awesome beers.

Anyway, this beer is in the DB as:

    Greetings, all.

Shout out to @Beersnake for getting things rolling this holiday weekend.

Last I checked, it was 82°F in southern Spokanistan, and it's sunny with a pleasant breeze.

I've been pretty derelict checking in here this year. On the plus side, I got myself a much newer car that seems in mostly tip top condition last December. On the downside, I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes early last month, so beer consumption has definitely had to change for me. I'm drinking MUCH less, and generally just on the weekends. That's okay, I was trending downwards anyway, what with a job where I generally don't go home til after 10. I'm actually much more sad about the foods I have to abandon. I'm trying to follow a Mediterranean style diet now, and, when I do drink beer, to limit myself to 1 or 2 (I had 3 yesterday, a special occasion on account of saying hi to a bartender I like at Community Pint on his last day, and then having dinner at Uprise Brewing with 2 dear friends).

Today, I'm having what's billed as a WCIPA from a local Spokane brewery that doesn't really do WCIPAs, Dry Bones, from For The Love of God Brewing:
Odd stuff, though not bad. Billed as a WCIPA with Cascade, Simcoe & Columbus hops, it looks the part but is oddly herbal and grassy in the aroma department, and that can be found in the flavor as well, along with a melon-like sweetness. I guess this is what happens when a brewery that specializes in hazies and sours, and has openly disdained WCIPAs in the past when asked about them, decides to brew one.

Getting my mind right for seeing Rush in October:

Might be back with a new one tomorrow or Monday. Cheers!

It is SO hard to picture Rush without Neil Peart on percussion. Anika has some huge shoes to fill.

Sad to think about, though. Zep without Bonzo, The Who without Keith (and later Entwhistle). Queen without Freddie. The list is long...

Question for the more seasoned reviewers and people who add beers. Having been at the Stay Puft release this weekend got me thinking in terms of 'how things work". I know there is Stay Puft in the data base - so when reviewing it, do we just go to Stay Puft and make note of the year in the review? It's technically not new, so that makes sense to me. Is that how it's done with annual releases of a beer?

Then there's a handful of 2026 Stay Puft variants - I assume those would be new beers to be entered with whatever makes the brew a variant following the brewery label? So Stay Puft: <whatever makes it unique>

Twelve percent beer project snappy limelight lager
...cloudy gold/orange appearance with just a ring of foam
...medium carbonation with about the same for the body
..aroma is lime peel and juice, mild corn, malt, cereal and grain and something that comes like corn syrup
...taste really doesn't stray too far from the aroma with the lime zest out front followed by sweet cereal and grain
...I actually like it but its flirting with being to close to being sugary[IMG]

    Irish-Style Imperial Stout Barrel Aged

12oz bottle "enjoy by 09FEB2029" poured into a tulip glass at fridge temp 10% ABV per label. The beer pours dense dark brown with chestnut highlights and khaki colored head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. Slight lacing. The aroma is mild with oak barrel, chocolate and coffee. The taste is bittersweet roasted malt with prominent whiskey and oak before more coffee and chocolate. Medium bitterness. The feel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. The ABV is present as heat and mild ethanol taste. Overall, good stout, but I don't see the Irish connection.

I checked the brewer's description and my review is in line with their thoughts, so I guess I'm still confused on the naming convention. Still tasty, just nothing to chase.

Yeah, this is definitely something that mods have discussed a lot. Stay Puft (regular) wouldn't get a new entry every year, but the variants most definitely get their own entry.

    Kcbc kosmic kraken pilsner
    ....super clear very pale gold
...medium carbonation with a large lasting head. Body is just below average but overall a nice feel
...aroma is mild but theres grain, cereal, slightly floral and earthy but hard to pick up specifics as again the aroma is subdued.
....taste is mild cereal and grain with it being a bit earthy. Quickly an almost dry bitter hop bite takes over and dominates.
..overall its a good beer that I suspect many would enjoy but the hop bitterness was the strongest element that this beer had to offer[IMG]

Hello denizens of New Beer Weekend!
Garth and I went down to Transient last weekend for Buckley Day and I picked up my order. Among them was a new (I added it to the database) Reserve Canuckley.
Popped this one open thinking it was the “regular” Canuckley but it wasn’t the same ABV, so I looked closer.
Didn’t know this existed and here I am drinking one.
The pour is typical Transient barrel aged imperial pastry stout (do they make anything else barrel aged?) Used (and filtered) old oil black with the dark brown head that dissipates quickly and leaves no lacing.
The taste is flat out amazing. Curiously it starts with caramel.
Then a rapidly progressed through coffee and chocolate and maple syrup and then bourbon in the swallow.
The feel is about what every Transient barrel aged imperial pastry stout (of which they make a metric ton of) - viscous on the verge syrup.
    Good beer.
That’s my “one and done” for today.
    Cheers!

New beers, new brewery weekend down here in Delaware at Dewey Beer Company.
Outstanding food and exceptional service, though I found the three beers I tried to be somewhat lackluster.
My least favorite was Swishy Pants, their flagship IPA.
The best, El Trono a Mexican lager.
Oh well, taste is subjective, as this place was packed and is considered one of the big boys down here.
