I always pronounces the "beat" in Beatification as the word "beat". Apparently that is incorrect! (And not incorrect the way "Plin-ee" is incorrect, actually not how the word beatification is pronounced.)

To the posters of RRBC pronunciations, you need to clarify. I've heard the controversy of Pli-knee, but please add other versions to people who haven't. And also to the beatification poster...I've been telling people that I am going to get some beat-if-ication for the last month! How the f is it pronounced! Bee-yat? Clarify beatch!

 Yep, it's a weird one. 3F = Drie Fonteinen = "Dree Fohn-TAY-nen" with the "r" emanating from the back of the throat.

The Roman naturalist for whom the beer is named: Pliny (PLIN-ee) the Elder...accent on the "Plin." Beatification: be-AT-i-fa-kay-shun.

I love how they say how to pronounce it on most of their labels

Thanks for that...I think I usually settle on "Dree Fohn-TEN-nen." Good to know it's TAY.

Just going to throw this out there from North Carolina, in the "App-a-la-CHan" Mountains were there are some pretty good breweries, one would say, and Sierra Nevada on the way!! That's a "CH" not a "SH" by the way, quit trying to be fancy with it!

Who knew that learning French in your formative years would help so much with a beer hobby as an adult...

Given the French background I don't tend to have much problem on pronunciations. When I hear people say the incorrect thing, I generally just casually repeat the word correctly in a sentence. The sharp ones pickup, and others just don't care.

The one I hate the most is Hoegaarden. Because everybody out there seems absolutely convinced that it's HO-garden. So when I properly say HOO-garden at a bar, the bartender/waitress is quick to "correct" me with HO-garden. At that point it's "whatever - just pour me the freaking Belgian White".

i struggle with 'duvel'. i know how to pronounce it, but 'duvelle' got ingrained early on and i don't care enough to fully correct my brain. ply-knee i say, unashamedly.

this reminds me that i recently learned how to say "croissant" such that americans know what i mean (i'm an american, by the way). it wasn't a common enough word for me to learn growing up (probably would have said "crescent roll" anyway), and i took french in high school, so i say it "properly" (as properly as non-native speakers of any language say anything).

recently, i kept getting things other than "croissants" when i would order "egg and cheese sandwich on a croissant" at dunkin donuts, so i did some studying. apparently, the understandable pronunciation is the grating "cruh-sont". it's weird.

p.s. i am a "linguistic BA," having minored in linguistics and taken many grad courses in it (though i'm also a "philosophical BA" by such standards). the parenthetical latter is in part why my posts are so awful.

What i hear the most is the butchering of Chimay. As i would transcribe it....it would be [shi-MAY]. What I hear....[CHI-may], [KAI-may], [KI-may], and my personal favorite....."I'll take one of those chinese-sounding beers."
