I'm trying to help a friend and trading partner (and his tasting group) acquire an '08 Darkness for their vertical. What will this take?

Initially I know they are offering a BCBVS but I'm willing to kick in and I'm sure they have other things to add as well, but I just have no idea how much of this is left.

    Thoughts? Thank you!

It will take more than a BCBVS. But that is a good start.

Yeah, they figured that out...I'm trying to get an idea of how much more.

Thanks to this thread, my friend was able to make this happen.

    Trade was:
    BCBVS + Bramble
    for
2008 Darkness + Syx (or 4pk of Wet or something else from Surly)

Take the Wet or something else.

The trade isn't for me, I just wanted to report what the deal was.

Personal feelings on Syx really don't matter but since you went there, I happen to really like Syx and would take that over Wet in a heartbeat.

at this point, I would take syx over wet as well, if this was 3 weeks ago, I would say Wet for sure.

Agree with that statement as well. Definitely want to hold Syx for awhile too since it's a little hot right now.

    Was the 09 a bomber?

What am I missing? There is nothing else in here about regular BCBS and no one mentioned a bottle of 09 BCBS in this trade at all.

All 12oz, there was more to the trade than just that, but it was centered around the BCBS and Darkness. There was some Ananke and JK stuff thrown in the box with it.

Peep your title. I made mention of what I got it for. Sorry if I was intruding.

The question asked what trades for '08 Darkness. I gave anon-specific answer. The truth is that those bottles are likely not going to be let go easily. The people that have them probably had them for a while and wouldn't give them up easily unless the trade bait is super enticing. To be honest your trade sounds like a screaming deal on your part and I'd expect it not to happen again very easily. Older vintage, limited, similar quality beers would be my bet. Dark lord '08, Abyss '07, and Perfect Storm '09 would be my examples of possibilities.

I took the "anon-specifics" as jackassery, my mistake.

I'm not sure that's the case...while I agree that trading a similar beer from a similar vintage certainly makes things easier, I'm willing to wager that there are enough actual advocates out there that wouldn't be that stingy.

I also think that people are starting to realize that aging a beer that long can actually be detrimental to the flavor and would be willing to trade it for something hard to get and in it's prime like BCBVS.

Just a thought, regardless I'm glad my buddy was able to complete his vertical. Thanks to the generous MN BA who was willing to make a reasonable deal where both parties are clearly happy.
