Also, I've never tried Darkness and it is the thing that has been on my wants list longest, for what it's worth.

You said Darkness is a risk to trade for because of it's age, BCBVS is a beer in it's prime hinting on it's superiority, and you continue to hype your bottle even while defending yourself. You called people that want to trade across vintages stingy and is not true advocacy. This is a summary of what you wrote. Good luck with your trade. I hope your friend enjoys the beer you got him and appreciates the fact you had to give up such an incredibly delicious world class beer for it

It wasn't my BCBVS, I didn't make the trade...he did, I just found him someone to do it. I didn't hint on superiority, I simply stated a preference. I also mentioned the risks of trading for any older bottle of beer (nothing specific to Darkness). I also said I thought it was a fair trade (which is the opposite of hinting at superiority). I didn't say that trading across vintages is stingy and when someone called me out on that implication, I clarified my intent. I also summarized what I wrote and clarified my meaning. This is clearly pointless because you have a preconceived notion of my intentions. The deal was already done when I stated my preferences, thus in no way skewing the outcome.

Thanks for your opinion. It means a lot to me.

IF I thought Darkness 2008 was shit, I wouldn't hesitate to say so. I've never had it and thus wouldn't have said that.

Your responses come off as wanting to get the beer as easily and cheaply as possible. The only purpose it seems from this whole thread was to try to justify that this random bottle of darkness shouldn't have much trade weight. You are no different than the rest of the Vanilla guys on here, and Vanilla BCS isn't even the best of the variations, the bottles have a lot of variance from what I have had. If your bottle isn't getting the trade done, offer more to get this 08 Darkness you desperately want. You are on the losing end, because others have bottles that you want, and you can't force anybody to do a trade in your favor.

This thread is no different than most of these dumbass "value", what's it worth, what's it take, is this a good deal? type of threads. The OP just tries to justify his/her/it's bad trade offer. Before all these dumbass trade value topics began popping up, trading was a simpler and more exciting experience.

This makes zero sense. I'm not a "vanilla guy" because I don't have vanilla and I've never tried it out of a bottle. I didn't say that Darkness shouldn't have much trade weight, I was simply asking what someone would consider trading for it and that I have a friend who had tried with BCBVS before (for a while) and had failed. I was trying to help him get a bottle and wanted to know some opinions on how much more would be required. I also happen to prefer Bramble to Vanilla and would trade for King Henry over both of them.

Better than that, someone messaged me and was happy to make a trade with my friend. Simple as that. This is what I was hoping would happen. I'm getting no beer out of this thread (but was willing to pitch in if necessary to help him get the bottle he wanted).

I didn't have a "bad trade offer" because clearly someone was more than happy to take it (which some modifications...as expected).

I am neither on the winning nor losing end because I didn't make a trade. As for the two parties who did...they are both happy, so no losers there either.

As for my responses making it sound like I wanted to get this beer as cheaply as possible, I don't. I simply wanted to help a friend and didn't even give my opinion on the deal until after it was already made. My personal preference to have the GI side of the deal over the Surly side was simply a preference.

Thanks for your feedback, I am glad to be able to clarify my meaning since it was misinterpreted by a number of people.

What shelf whale are you wanting to trade for it?

EDIT: What comparable BA Stout from 2008 do you want to trade for it?

There is no comparable BA stout because Darkness is not barrel-aged.

I think he was referring to Vanilla.

I thought that at first, but scratched my head at the "2008" reference.

I'm still scratching my head, though....mostly because I think I still have some salsa on my fingers from lunch.

Although I was half serious and half kidding...I have no idea. Only one Vanilla, but I definitely want to hang on to it. I will have to negotiate with your intermediary skills offline later when I can make time to see if I really can pull it. I HAVE tasted it before in a vert, and actually traded another guy AT THE TASTING my 10 and 11 pours for his 08 pour. That trade was so worth it. It was DELISH!!!

If I can make time, I will BM you to illicit help. I do have ammo, but have to pull my crap together. (New baby in the house = no time + no sanity)

I had failed in my first attempt at an 08 Darkness a month or so ago. And yes, this thread got me thinking it was time to try again. Thanks guys!
