Just curious if anyone has completed a trade for this lately and what was on the other side of it? Or if anyone has any input on the type of bottle you think it should/would pull in return. Any input would be appreciated, thanks all!
I just drank one at a tasting and it was awesome. Tyvm brystmar. As for trading for it, I'm not really sure. I know if I had one it wouldn't be for trade side I think it's that good.
i was pretty blown away by the '09 i had a while back but i cannot help but wonder if an '11 with the same age on it would basically be the same beer.
Just drink Abacus. Old BA barleywines don't hold a candle to fresh (yes, I've had '09 PS recently, it was good, but any number of fresh BA barleywines kick its ass).
I've heard that a lot but interestingly, we had a blind BA barleywine tasting a while back... KH, Moas, Blighs, Sucaba, Abacus, etc, and Abacus was ranked higher than Sucaba by all 4 people. Maybe bottle variation, who knows, especially strange because the Abacus/Sucaba is the one I always read about the fresher being better. I wouldn't be surprised if some BA barlewines age well and others don't in the same way some BA stouts age well and others don't. As for the 08 being much more limited, I agree. I've heard like 500 bottles? With the 09 I was thinking bottles like KH, CBS, Kate, etc or even adding to it for BLack Note, BCBVS, etc.
A few folks I know of (including myself) traded for the 09 Perfect Storm lately. I traded two King Henry's for two 09 Perfect Storms and a local friend did the same trade. For whatever reason a lot of it came out of the woodwork recently, and after opening a bottle at KBS 12 day I feel (and many others who shared in the bottle agreed) that it was drinking very nicely. While not as good (subjective I know) as King Henry, I still was happy with the trade. Cheers!
