Does anyone here have any good single hop/single malt recipes for a 1 gallon batch? Mainly looking for IPAs. I've done a couple pre-mixed recipes, but would like to start buying my own ingredients. Thanks.
If I were to attempt a smash IPA, I would probably use 2-Row & your favorite high alpha aromatic hop. Centennial/Chinook/Simcoe/Mosaic could all be good choices. Target 1.065 OG / 65-70 IBU. Assuming 70% efficiency and 10.5%AA you could use 2.5 lb. of 2-Row with .25 oz. pellets at 60 min., .10 oz. at 20 and 5 min., .40 oz. at flameout, and dry hop with .80 oz.
I have not brewed 1 gallon batches, but these numbers seem very accurate for what I would expect if it were scaled to a 5 gallon batch.
Seems about right on all parameters, or you could even bump the hops a smidge if you really want it hoppy. For more base malt flavor - I would also consider using munich malt (I have more than once with great results, especially munich/bravo) or vienna malt (not as red or flavorful as munich, but went well with cascade in a smash). Maris otter plus simcoe hops also came out quite tasty. Cascade will make a nice citrus bomb if you are a cascade fan and use a lot of it. I'll let you know on the citra smash in a month or so (that one's getting munich malt and a ton of citra).
