In my thread for Add-a-beer weekend I did designate this weekend for the campaign. I added some yesterday and will do more today. In deference to Todd's indication that he wants to design a different program, I'm sure he's appreciative of everyone's efforts now. You're all getting into the habit of adding beers as well as reminding others to do so too by reading this thread.
100%. It's great that all of this is inspiring many to add beers, but we're not ready to deal with that big push yet. And there's no rush.
Are we going to get a summary of what we added and where we ended up when this is over? I ran out of new beers to add, focusing mainly on local breweries that I know.
If you're interested in seeing how many you added you would have had to look at the number of beers that you've added up until yesterday, and then look at the same number source today and subtract yesterday's number from today. You can look at your personal numbers by clicking on your username in the avatar block, then click again on that second page. Not sure that I can make a link work for a personal info search but try this: https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/members/zotzot.948941/ For an overall total for the weekend I looked at the unique number of a beer that I added Friday night at midnight my time, and I plan to do the same tonight to get a second number to calculate the overall difference. Stay tuned.
That sounds like high end mathematical formulas Seriously, something to keep in mind the beers added does not update until the after BA midnight.
I entered a new beer this afternoon and it's unique number is 784705. Earlier in this thread when we discovered the unique number in the url the number discussed back then was 777429 on January 11th. So 7,276 have been added in a month.
And remember that this counter includes all the beers that were deleted in the past, so the goal is somewhere over a million. Without a real count, we can only guess.
@Todd would it be much work to make an active link for “beers added”, on a member’s information profile, to populate a list of those beers? Same question for “places added”. Thanks. I added a bunch this past weekend, without pictures, and will be going back to add the pictures. I have the recent list, so it will be fairly simple for me to finish what I started. However, it would be nice to have a list for future reference.
I've jumped into this regardless of the "big day" idea. Since this thread caught my eye, I've added 407 beers. I loaded up the MA breweries from the Places category here and am just going through the alphabet. I'm up to the letter L so far...
Nice! I wasn't smart enough to look at my total added on the day this project all started to be able to calculate my total. I've tracked which breweries i added to in the past month, so it will be fairly easy to go back and count beers. That may be today's project.
I'm going to propose that we just don't blindly add beers for the sake of numbers. If you are going to add a beer why not rate/review it? If you can't do that don't add it. What good is a large database with no content? I know I'm a real buzz kill.
My personal preference when I go to a brewery is just rate/review a beer instead of needing to add it, then rate/review it. Each their own though I guess.
A lot of people won't bother to add beers. Adding them proactively promotes reviews and ratings, increasing site participation.
Id also argue that having a more complete list of what a brewery can or does offer will make queries of breweries before visiting more useful. If a list of beers listed here on BA is only smoothie sours, Im not likely to want to visit while travelling etc. Having more beers listed could also get a Google hit for BA if a certain beer is listed here in addition to the brewery website. Plus, a more complete DB of beers is probably a better resource for any users. And yes, if a beer is already here, it is slightly more easy to review by someone. I used to not add many beers without reviews, but I like the idea now and have been regularly adding stuff from locals.
That question has been discussed upthread, repeatedly. TL;DR: it makes it easier for some else to review it if it's already listed.
