I am very close to tasting my 1000th craft brew (2 away)...I made a big deal about 500 and picked a beer I thought I would love...

    Southern Tier Creme Brulee Stout

Long story short, I hated it.....So my question is do I take a similar approach, and drink a beer based on similar beers that I have had and expect to like, and hope for better results. Or, do I go for something I know nothing about and expect nothing, this way there is no disappointment in this milestone?

Go with a Top 250 beer in a style that you like.

Heh, ST Creme Brulee is my favorite beer. Sorry you hated it, and hope the 1,000th is better for you.

I would say it's better not to hype it. Personally, I'm at 1,051 on here now (doesn't include meads/ciders or local beer that wasn't on the site before it made it easy for anyone to add them; my personal spreadsheet says I'm at 1,151 with those included) so I honestly don't even know what my 1000th was. Just keep exploring and enjoying!

There's a vast world of beer out there. Get something in a style that you've never really heard of that looks interesting and which you really can't figure out how to pronounce.

    1000! Excellent.

For my 1,000th I did local. Unfortunately, it ended up being an infected mess of a BA Barleywine. But hey, 1000!

I'm closing in on 1,000 on Untappd and having the same thoughts as the OP. Thinking maybe a St. Lam, have not had the pleasure of enjoying that one just yet.

Shock Top Twisted Pretzel Wheat for my 1000, more as a joke. Joke was on me, it was pretty damn good! Don't take it so seriously (though it is truly a milestone) and follow up and post what you end up trying!

I'm nowhere near 1000 but I made a point of scheduling #400, which was also my #100 review Bourbon County Rare. A beer worthy of that milestone for sure.

Buy six beers at a store which you have never tried. Come back and create a new thread which allows the community to vote for one of the six options for #1,000. It may not be as exciting as drinking Rare Booze Sour IPA, but it's a lot more fun!

Thanks for the suggestions, I am carefully considering my options. I will definitely post what I end up with, how I end up with, and how I like...

Lots of good beers out there for #1000. It shouldn't be too hard. Make things easy and go to a beer centric store if there is one in your area. I am sure you can find something or a store employee could help you out. Good luck man and hope this one is better than 500.

I'm 6 away from 1000 on Untappd. The true number is much, much higher though. I wanted to hit 1000 in a few weeks when I visit Firestone but a recent tasting and Zwanze Day put a huge dent in my count. It may be a corona or a Bo and Luke? Just drink and enjoy!

Have you had the dessert for which creme brulee is named? I think you might find that it tastes exactly like that. Or as I like to put it like a vanilla liquer. Every beer you have never had before is uncharted territory. You cannot predict if you will like a beer or not. I say go for a beer you have always wanted to try and let the ratings fall where they may. Have you tried borooklyn's black ops. Lots of my friends did not like this beer because ti uses champagne yeast. I sure liked it. A whole lot.

#1,000 unique or #1,000 since you've been counting? Either way, congrats! I'll give you the same advise I did the person from the previous thread like this:

Throw away pretension and have a 40. It'll be a good time.

I had my 1,000th a month or so ago and I did Duck Duck Gooze from Lost Abbey - it didn't disappoint.

Well if you're taking all that time to acquire, tick, and log that many beers, you better at least do yourself a favor and make it a special beer. 1000+ is a shit load of different beers. Figure each one is $2 on average (which is very low once you factor in bombers or draft beers) you've now spent a minimum of $2000, make it a top 25 if ya got em!

I hit 2,500 on that other app recently. I didn't make a big deal about it with the beer, otherwise I would have been letting my check-ins dictate what I was drinking. Instead I reached in my fridge and pulled out a Troegs Scratch beer someone had recently given me. It was an OK beer.

I think the whole experience is based on the fact that you may not like your 1000th, thats like saying "i liked all 1000 craft beers I've ever had!" which I'm sure is untrue.... Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean you didn't have it!
side note: i have no idea how many different beers I've had.
