Absolutely. Craft Beer cut into their pie and they want some of the pieces back.

Isn't 89% enough for them? If anything, they could lose some more market share.

I think the 10% point was a some sort of psychological/economical barrier for them.
After that the sky's the limit for craft beer and the "Big Guys" know they cant put them back in their box anymore.

I think I live in a bubble; I have know that 90% is bud, coors etc, but it seems just the opposite the places I go, and people I know...

"We make beer not to be fussed over...for drinking, not dissecting...let them sip their pumpkin peach ale..." said ABInBev, totally not freaking out at all

We are all in a bubble or we wouldn't be posting here. Every time I go into my local big box store to see if they got any Pliny in that week, I assume everyone else walking in is looking for the same thing. 9 times out of 10 they are spending 30 seconds grabbing the coolest 30-pack of coors light from the walk-in and "not fussing" over the rest. I actually envy those guys....

I opened this thread thinking it was about my favorite barrel aged stout?
But glad to see that number continue to grow every year. Would love to know what the # is when you add back Goose Island, Elysian, Blue Point and any other AB acquired craft brewery.

And this is coming from the folks who brew Bourbon County. "Fuss" is pretty mild to see some of the absurd behavior involved in getting one's hands on a bottle of Coffee or the others.

Just a thought, but I'd take it as a bit of an economic indicator.
Pretty much everyone on BeerAdvocate is indeed a Beer Advocate, and appreciates quality beer. I'd guess that 100% of us are in the 11% indicated.
The other 89% are the rest of the every-day, average Joe beer drinkers who either don't care or can't afford to pick up a few bombers of quality craft brew in lieu of two 24 packs of AB.
It's not a question of what percentage of people acknowledge that craft beer is a better quality beer, it's a question of where people are spending their money.
I'm glad to see that an increasing percentage of people are willing and able to spend more discretionary (a debatable term when we're talking about beer!) funds on craft brews.

I know, seriously. I am surprised they hold it that steady...kind of scary...

BMC also wants in on craft beer because the margins are much better, especially when they can negotiate the best prices for raw materials and use their own distribution networks.

Because its probably higher margin. Then there's also the part where they're losing market share, which is a big problem for pretty much any company in existence.

When someone ignores competition because they think it's a passing fad and it turns out not to be, it's called embarassment, egg on the face, etc. So, the reaction is ramped up to try and make up for lost time. When they try one thing and the competition keeps growing, they try another. And another. Until they realize the competition isn't going anywhere, so they try and buy into the movement. Just like the American auto makers did in the early 70s when faced with competition from Japanese auto makers [for any of you out there who remember]. It's the hubris of American manufacturers that has been and will continue to be.

    That's all folks.

 Even AB doesn't claim that (from their homepage):
(other sources, which use other measuring criteria, put their share at a lower figure - such as BMI's 45.6% for 2013). IIRC, AB never really passed 50% of the US market, peaking in 2003 at 49.6%.

Personally, I think the 89% was meant to mean all non-craft brewers, not just AB.

I know that, thank you. I just wish it would.
I don't think you understand what I understand, nor how my brand of idealism works. Take my post as a gripe against greed, if anything.
