    Hey Beer Advocate!

Question about aging beer. A little background to why I'm aging beer, Elysian Brewing in Seattle is releasing 12 special beers this year each month on the 21st of each month with the final release on December 21st, or the Mayan end of the calendar. A bit gimmicky perhaps, but fun and the first two beers have been good. They are releasing it in 22oz bottles and my plan is to buy a few extra of each one and then at the end of the year have a big party. I am holding the extras in a dark corner of an underground garage (should be fairly cool even through the summer), but I am not sure if they are good beers to try and age. The first beer was a Tripel brewed with Yerba Mate and the second an IPA brewed with Heather. I really want to have a tasting party at the end of the year with all 12 beers, but I don't want to be surprised that the beers have turned to crap (or, at least the first few). I am under the impression that certain styles of beer age better than others and that perhaps a tripel and an IPA might not be the best aging beers. Any thoughts?

    Cheers!

I can tell you from experience that Nibiru was not that great, but may get better. As for the rest, you are a pioneer my friend, blazing the trail like everyone else with this vert. Also, as many will expertly chime in, IPAs do not age well. I for one look forward to hearing about everyone's differing results on this one.

If any of them are IPA's I would leave them be and drink fresh. Dont age IPA's. What are the other styles.

    Cheers!

    Looks like a gimmick.

From what I've seen thus far, this doesn't look like a series worth aging. I could see the tripel "holding up" (not necessarily improving) through December, but the heather ale and cardamom pale ale (next in the series) don't look like candidates for cellaring. Maybe if you have access to a really cold fridge you could probably keep them from deteriorating between now and the end of the year, but at $8/bottle cellaring them seems like an awfully expensive experiment.
