I am very close to putting together a complete Bourbon County variant vertical. One I am missing is 13 Prop. I have heard a ton of people claim the coconut is completely gone. Due to how much one would command, is it worth trading for at this point? Has anyone had it recently? As always, thanks for the help!

Interested in what people have to say as well. Was offered a '13 and coffee for a '14

Just had a bottle on Friday. The coconut isn't completely gone, but it's not as prominent as I would have liked and is on the more faded side (though not as bad as 2010 Vanilla). I don't regret trading for it, but if I were to trade for any BC variant right now (in order of preference), it would be Rare, Vanilla Rye, 2014 Prop, then Bramble. Those bottles have the most prominent adjuncts (aside from Rare, which is just the best beer I've ever had.).

It's funny you mention 2010 Vanilla. That is the other variant I am missing.

Faded coconut? Yes but still good. That said it is worth pursuing if you need it to complete your Bourbon County set. Just don't give up the world for it

I traded a Prop 14 for Prop 13 a few weeks ago and drank the Prop 13 immediately. The coconut was not as strong as the first bottle I had but it was still definitely there and definitely delicious. I've heard that even when it was fresh there were wild variations in the amount of coconut from bottle to bottle so it's hard for me to say it was "faded" vs. simply a bottle that never had that much coconut to begin with. I'm not sure what this means but the bottle I had a year ago had little white coconut flakes and oil that say on top of the glass and the bottle I just drank had none of this...

Bottom line I totally agree with evilcatfish. Go for it but don't get crazy over it. Good luck and please report back if you get one and crack it open!

I've have a few bottles of '13 Prop recently through events and special tappings and the coconut was very much still there. I think the '13 is better than the '14, but to each his own.

Just had a full BC tasting on Saturday. Every variant from 07-14. I am trading all my 14 props for 13. I am also trading a ton of sours for 13. It's better than Rare, Bramble, KH, vanilla, vanilla rye.... Everything.

Had essentially the same last Friday. My thoughts were Rare>Vanilla Rye>2014 Prop>Bramble>Cherry Rye>Backyard>2013 Prop>2010 Vanilla>King Henry. To each their own!

    Good luck OP!

Thanks for all the help fellas! After the holidays, I will try to acquire the remaining variants. I will pursue the 13 prop, and I can't wait to try it!

Dang man, that's a hell of an endorsement. If you get your hands on another Rare, I'd trade my '13 Prop for it.

For anybody drinking a 2013 Prop I recommend turning the bottle upside down for 30 - 60 seconds prior to drinking. This should help get the coconut flakes off the bottom of the bomber

Like most things delicately enhanced stored cool and dark is really the key to longevity, and it's only 14 months old right now. I had two and traded one I have no doubt it's still as good as it was in Oct last year, it's been stored dark and 50 since I got it.
