Besides the A-B and MillerCoors offerings, I only saw a handful of beers I can get around here. Congrats to the winners, there's great beer all over this country!

Quite a bit of love for Latitude 42 which is cool to see. That said it's about the 6th best brewery in the Kalamazoo/Portage, MI area

After viewing the NABA winners list it's safe to assume the NABA is irrelevant

True, it's regional. It was held in Idaho, so a lot of faraway breweries probably just didn't find it worth the trouble to enter, send beer etc. But there were winners from Michigan (Latitude 42), New York (Paradox), Massachusetts (Boston Beer Co.), and Belgium (Lindemans). I don't think any of these breweries are owned by AB.

Is there another judging event that gets entries from as much of the U.S. as GABF does? Leaving out the World Beer Cup, the judging events I know of that accept entries from all 50 states (the NABA and Best of Craft Beer Awards) are still more regional in participation with a few distant breweries in the mix. What are the similar judging events in the Midwest, East, and other parts of the country?

I didn't see a list of entered breweries, so, just like GABF, we don't know who was entered. It's good to see events other than GABF, and compare winners lists. Maybe the folks who don't recognize the winners could talk their local breweries into entering, use it as a GABF tune-up.

I haven't heard of 90% of these beers and breweries. Not sure if that's a good thing or if the NABA is really out of touch.

    Which shows a couple things:

A: There's a lot of damn breweries these days, and even as well-aware as we collectively are, we can't get 'em all.

B: Part of my reason posting this, was to raise awareness of the event. I think it'd be great to more breweries from all over North America involved in this, and have it become a bigger thing.

C: GABF, after all, is limited to American breweries. There's plenty of great beers being produced in Canadia that don't even get a chance at GABF.

Great to see New Mexico is well represented on the podium.

I've heard of most of the Washington and Oregon breweries on the medalists list, and I'd say a lot of them are in the top tier for their states, but many are definitely under the radar even locally. Of course there are quite a few notable exceptions, but this reads like a partial list of some of the most highly regarded breweries in the Pacific Northwest:

    Barley Brown's
    Boneyard
    Breakside
    Reuben's
    Sound
    Chuckanut
    Selkirk Abbey
    Pelican
    Boundary Bay
    Icicle
    Aslan
    Wander
    Bend Brewing
    Sunriver
    GoodLife
    10 Barrel
    Old Schoolhouse
    Walking Man
    Howe Sound
    Oakshire

I've heard very good things about Urban Chestnut in St. Louis too, so I can only assume that most of the finalists from elsewhere are of a similar caliber. Long story short: just because they aren't darlings of BA doesn't mean they aren't cranking out some really great beer.

Both NABA and these awards certainly seem relevant as far as I'm concerned.
