16.9 oz Bourbon County Stout - Too much?

I was initially out off by the size as well, but one 500ml split into two GI chalices for my wife and I was PERFECT. Enjoyed it but could still taste enough and was sober enough to review a couple more beers that night.

 

Nah. Drink it slow enough, and you should be fine. It took me a couple hours to take one down last night, and I was fine when I finished it.

 

Just the right amount, just don't plan on driving anywhere for the next 8 hrs....

 

Aside from increasing profits per oz, there was no good reason to switch from the 12oz format. Remember who owns Goose Island?

 

If 16.9 oz isn't enough for 2 people, an 8oz bottle wouldn't be enough for one.


12 oz bottles are great...16.9 are 4.9 oz better...IMO.

But I understand the OP's feelings.

 

They look like old tyme root beer bottles methinks. Wish they kept rare, regal and prop in bombers but whatever.

 

16.9, 12, 26.45, 10.85, who cares. These new bottles are pure sex.

 

I would have preferred a 10oz package myself. This package size drives me crazy.

 

I like to share beer with friends 16.9 format doesn't work for me. I like what stone did with xocovenza went from bomber to six pack for the holiday. I can give a friend 1 or 2 to try keep the rest for myself. How long will the bourbon barrel crazy last . I think the root beer crazy is dying down, what's next, craft beer is becoming gimmicky

 

The 16.9oz bottles were okay for me. My snifter is 12oz, so with an 8oz pour, that leaves just enough room for my ice cubes and beer salt.

 

I'm not wild about the new size either. one 12 oz bottle of BCBS was perfect for me, this size is pushing it a bit, but on the other hand it's a great size for a bottle tasting or session between two people, gives a satisfying dose but leaves room for other beers.

 

For me, the 16 or 500 ml sizes are perfect for beers < 8% or so - and almost perfect for a higher abv; almost since for a higher abv since I need to adjust my pace.

But let's face it - there's no one size that everyone will agree is the best. Everybody's different.

 

I opened a regal last night and could only get through half of it. So yes too much for 1 person but probably perfect for two. I like 12 oz format the best and sold in 4pks.

 

I was initially not wild about the format change, but 16.9 is perfect for splitting between two people, and it's certainly easier to take to the dome by myself than a 22 oz bomber.

It may change my occasional penchant for cracking a BCBS as a nightcap, since I'm probably not going to down a pint of 14% abv stout at the end of the night, but all in all, I think the format change has it's usefulness.

As noted above, the main problem seems to be with the variants--rye, prop and rare--and not really having a good amount for a bottle share. A 16.9 oz bottle could work for a 4-person share, but any larger than that and you really need two bottles.

 

16.9oz fits perfectly in the new snifter, and is also a great serving size. In the past 2x 12oz bottles would be a lot, but 1x 12 was never enough.

 

I can’t understand how 16.9oz is too much for one person. A beer and a third compared to a 12oz bottle. My wife can drink a whole one easily. We did and then some last night while decorating house for the holidays! Fix the spelling please - 16.9oz of Bourcon might be too much lol.

 

That quantity is fine for two people. 8oz of a 15% beer should be plenty for anyone. I don't prefer needing to drink a 16.9oz beer of that high an abv alone most nights
