Those are weird prices - $19.99 was insanely low for last year (below MSRP), and $13.99 is way over MSRP.

That said, I hate the format change too. Last year, the only bottles I found around here were $8/12oz ($0.67/oz). This year I got one bottle for $15.99/16.9oz ($0.95/oz), so a 42% increase.

I have no problem drinking big abv beers as pints or bombers. Maybe that's a problem....

I just realized that 'Bourbon' is misspelled in the title . . .

I wouldn't turn down an 8 ounce grenade if they chose to go that format for the reg bcbs next year.

My capper of similar design works on these new bottle, which mean bourbon county homebrews!

Finishing up my first bottle. Honestly, it's a bit more than I'd like to have in one setting, but no problem finishing it, although sharing it would have been nice, too.

149 posts in and I'm wondering how this thread is still misspelled. Either way, I didn't think that 16.9 was too much initially. However, now that I've already had 2 beers before this, I'm having a really hard time polishing off this bottle. While the beer inside the bottle is amazing, the sweetness, thickness and high abv is making this quite the task to finish.

The people commenting that they regularly have multiple bottles of Bourbon County remind me a bit of watching high school students who knowingly but witlessly drink 5+ glasses of their parents' $200 bottle of port wine at the family Christmas party.

Bourbon County is a 400+ calorie glucose bomb that's as strong as some dessert wines and most places that have this on draft treat it as such (eg, they do it in 8oz or 10oz pours). You are legally barred from driving a car after a single bottle under pain of jail time and a hefty fine (unless you're a large person). I have had more than one 12oz bottle of BCBS (or an equivalently strong beer) on occasion, so it's not as if I can't drink 500ml of this to myself. There's just very few times where I would actually be able to do it responsibly.

Also, not as important, but the bottles are ugly as sin and annoying to read. I'm not quite 30 yet but I'm sure I looked a bit like a senior citizen as I squinted to try to make anything out on the bottle or label in the store.

I was finishing said bottle. Though I can't spell nor do I really see spelling errors when I glance at what I typed, so as much as I'd like to blame the booze...it was a preexisting condition going into the beer.

I wasn't thrilled with 16.9oz offering, it's way too large of a portion for one serving IMO. Hope it changes next year.

To be honest I'd prefer 330 cl bottles if starting from scratch, it would be still be more than a standard pour in a bar, but barely so. Weed does Pernicious in this size. But obviously there's nothing wrong with the 12 oz bottle, it wasn't broken to begin with. The Larger size is rough if you want a nightcap after having a few beers, you'd better be home and grounded.

Assuming I can do math, which may be assuming too much, 16.9 oz of BCBS at 14.3% ABV is roughly equivalent to four 12 oz cans of Bud at 5% ABV. I actually like the 16.9 oz bottles -- perfect for roughly two 8 oz servings, which you can either share or drink alone -- but I can see how many would find that much alcohol at once a bit much.

Honestly, I'm not a heavy drinker, more for social and food pairing. Usually a 12 oz is enough. However, every once and a while I like just a little bit more, and often hesitate to open a second bottle over fear that I might not finish the whole thing.

From a strict consumption perspective, I personally find the 16.9 oz are perfect for sharing or doming.

I think it would have been nicer to keep it 12oz so there was more to go around. I think sharing a 12oz bottle with someone is still fine. I love the way the new bottle looks except for the crown, it kinda looks neutered...

As far as the pricing goes, I think a lot of people are blaming G.I. and overlooking the store who sells it. Here's my point. I own a craft bar. From my DISTRIBUTOR I paid $110 for a case of 2014 (288 ounces total @ $.38 per ounce). I paid $86 for a case of 2015 (202.8 ounces @ $.42 per ounce). Now, let's just say that this year it was still sold in 12 ounce bottles. I, as a commercial buyer, would have paid $.48 per bottle more. Do a modest mark-up for profit and double that price. You would have paid $1 more per 12 ounce bottle than you had last year. Considering things like inflation, employee costs, and general operating cost increases, that's not bad. Now, if YOUR LOCAL STORE is gouging you for the 16.9 ounce Proprietors Bottle, then take up the issue with them. After all, your dollar is your vote in this consumer society we live in.
