I perused the list and learned of at least a dozen WA State breweries that I had never heard of before.

Also, is Holy Mountain too cool for school, hence their absence?

Yeah, about 10-12 I've not heard of. A given brewery may not pour at the festdue to capacity issues (although, there are plenty of small breweries listed), or a lack of interest in spending all weekend at the fest when you've got other stuff to do. I don't think a brewery has to pour at the fest to enter into the judging though.

Not I. I don't like the location. Are you working it Terry?

Going for the 4th year in a row. My favorite festival of the year, but it is certainly over crowded at times. Beer selection is fantastic compared to a lot of festivals however.

I don't recall Holy Mountain ever having a booth at this festival.

They also don't really take part in WA Brewers Open House Day.

I used to go to the festival every year, but I'm running the Rock and Roll 1/2 marathon that Sunday morning so I'd rather just chill at home and enjoy a couple beers.

Nothing against it. We just don't do a lot of festivals. We've done a lot in the past at other breweries we've worked for, and it's something we don't put a lot of energy into. As a brewery starting out, it might help with some exposure and help get the word out a bit, but they would be lucky to break even on wholesale pricing with the token payment system if they went through all their beer. That makes it hard for us to bring beers we would really like to pour at a festival that we have a short supply of (which is pretty much everything). With the weather seemingly getting nicer, we choose to spend our weekend with friends and family and recharge for the next week.

That being said, we bring it big time to Yakima Fresh Hop Festival and will be rolling deep with our crew this year. We love that time of year and the good people East of the mountains.

I almost feel the opposite about the exposure factor. With 100+ breweries or whatever I can't imagine anyone standing out too much.

I used to poo poo this fest since I figured all the beers there I could get locally. But I have been the past three years and love it. Great setting, fremont always rotates their ringer kegs, and the food trucks are top notch.

You'd think so but I actually discovered both Wander and Skookum at the WABF three or four years ago. There's always a surprise or two but those still stand out as reasons to go.

No dogs (seriously guys, it's at a park) = no go.

Ha that's the deciding factor? Not being able to bring your dog? I'm sure fido will be just fine at home alone for an hour or two.

For real? No dogs seems perfectly reasonable to me. Sure it's a park but it's going to be a park full of thousands of shithoused people throwing garbage on the ground and exercising zero spacial awareness.

Maybe your dog is chill and would be fine but if I were organizing that event I certainly wouldn't trust every person's judgment when it comes to their dog.

Also, there's a 40 acre off-leash area at Marymoor. Maybe it's not easy to do both the fest and the dog park at the same time, but it's not like the park is anti-dogs.

Fair point, I just found the policies of some Seattle festivals (i.e. most of the Seattle Center and UW events) odd where they ban dogs from outdoor/street locations where dogs are allowed every other day of the year.

Probably just spoiled by the fact that 90% of breweries in the area are doggy friendly!

Shrug. Over the years I've learned that dog owners tend to have very strong feelings and opinions about their dog, that often times may seem irrational to those who don't own dogs (as I'm constantly reminded by my sister and her husband's behavior with their golden retriever).

While Stillill, sharpski and leederhom all make good points (IMO), I doubt any of that matters to Damienl. If his dog can't go with him to the fest, I'm assuming that's a deal killer as far as he's concerned.
