Pappy Board Meeting is just a brown. Bravo Brown is just a brown. Same for Palo Santo Marron. Bums me out when people judge a beer before they've consumed it. If we think the brewer is talented ... why not think "hell yeah, let's see what this guy can do with a big ass brown" instead of "wah wah wah stouts good wah wah wah." Just sayin'.

I have never had Pappy Board Meeting but regular Board Meeting is unremarkable. Same with Bravo Brown. Were you trying to make a point? Something about "wah wah"? Sorry I "bummed you out" or hurt your feelings or whatever.

There is a reason that 9 of the 11 beers they announced at "barrel massacre" are stouts. They make amazing, world-class stouts. Why is it so hard to understand that people who love those beers would like to see a barrel-aged version in a bottle?

That's what I want to see. That's the only reason I will go

Oops. I just saw on the Barrel Massacre list that the name is actually "Bitches B Crazy". Nonetheless, it exists and I am really excited to try it.

There was some reading between the lines required. Reading obviously isn't your strong suite. The three beers I mentioned are A) browns and B) excellent beers. A touch of logic would allow you to infer that, hey, maybe other browns could be excellent. That is the point. But you've proven your "wah wah" whiner credentials remarkably. ;-)

Bummed was the wrong phrase. How about "dumbfounded" when people evaluate a beer they haven't had that. You're disappointed by a beer from a brewer you like that you haven't had. With a chef or a brewer or artist that I find talented, I tend to think "go do your thing" and trust the results will be great or at least interesting. I'm advocating open mindedness.

There might be more than "a" reason why 9 out of 11 beers they announced are stouts. There could be 3 or 5 or 7. One reason is that they make good stouts. Another reason may be that many people are closed minded and think "STOUTS ARE AWESOME EVERYTHING ELSE SUCKS!!" So appease and try to broaden minds with the other beers? Another might be that they're running a business and, given the herd mentality, it's a good idea to do a lot of what the herd likes. The fact that they're choosing to bottle a brown seems a pretty strong indicator that they think it's good, no?

Not sure why people always get aggressive on forums. I just moved from the northwest and it's more easy going out there. They / we liked the weird shit. Gin BA baltic porter? Sure! All I was saying is why not give the damned beer a chance before lamenting that it's not a stout? Seems pretty reasonable, no? Guess I'm in the minority, but I find it interesting when a talented brewer experiments with something off the beaten path rather than to just follow trends. My opinion.

Reading isn't my strong "suite"? Thanks. I needed that ironic belly laugh this morning.

I tried reading through the rest of your assumptions about "the herd" and who has given what beer a chance but I honestly don't care enough to try to digest what your "opinion" really is through the hyperbolic caps and questions. Now go drink a brown ale and have a nice day.

I got to try Bitch B Crazy at GI Clybourn's Stout Fest last month and it was exceptional. I'm expecting that to be one of the beers that are bottled and for sale on the 24th.

I've logged in some time at 18th St. and there is no way this can be anything but a ticketed event. Not only is the cubic space in the building limited, but the surrounding area isnt equipped to handle the horde that is thinking about making a stop on their way to DLD. It would be a logistical mess for everyone involved.

First and foremost they would need to work with the police dept. of Miller Beach for traffic control. There is basically one way in/out with VERY LIMITED street parking. Public safety woud be a big concern with the brewery being situated between 2 live train tracks with lots of rail traffic. Maybe the biggest concern is the availability of fresh product; 18th St. is still a pretty small operation and with the amount of people potentially walking through the doors next weekend the chances are very, very good that Drew & Co. simply will run out of beer.

Whatever happens with Barrel Massacre, it's going to be a great weekend for beer in NWI and I know I'll have a back pack full of as much 18th St. I can carry to share at DLD for anybody who is interested in trying some.

At the LOE appreciation event, Drew said that he initially wanted it to be an open event. He then said that he heard there were upwards of 6,000 people interested and that he probably needed to make it a ticketed event.

He said that he was thinking about two sessions; $25 (he may have said $20) would get you pours of the barrel aged beers on draft. I can't remember if he said it would get one one pour of each or four total pours. It would also give you the opportunity to buy an unnamed number of barrel aged bottles. I think he said 3-4 but wasn't sure based on yield.

Yesterday he posted on facebook that everything would be finalized in the next day or two. What I stated above seemed to be his preliminary thoughts so I'm sure there have been changes. I also hope he makes it 3 or more sessions, as I think it will be necessary. That would reduce the number of bottles for everyone but oh well.

I didn't have the opportunity to try Bitches B Crazy but I heard it was many people's favorite at Stout Fest. Regular Bitches Bank is outstanding and I could see it doing well in barrels. I did try barrel aged Hunter and it was phenomenal. Can't wait to try the variants. I'm hoping there are some blended variants. Hunter Cherry Vanilla was great and I can only see it getting better after some time in barrels.

Aww, poor guy; you should try it again. I promise it gets easier the more you do it.

BTW, that's a joke. I don't take internet debates that seriously. Fast typing can lead to typos but I can laugh at my own blunder. Cheers!

Stopped at the brewery for lunch yesterday. Bar tender said the plans had not yet been decided.

I did however see them bottling BA hunter.

Yeah. I get that they're new, but to be absolutely uncertain on the logistics 10 days out is weak. And there's gonna be mucho butthurt when those who had planned to make this part of their DLD weekend are denied entrance. Might as well move it to DLD so there's enough Chicago-area beer fun for all (including Slap Shot's event on DLD).

Perhaps they are dragging their feet because they want to keep it small and perhaps even local.

    Because speculation and rumor mills are fun, I've heard ticketed with several 2 hour sessions ... 1 - 3, 3 - 5, 5 - 7. Maybe earlier. Let's see if I'm right!
