Looking for some help here. My son is in from out of town and we plan on making a beer excursion this Sunday. Was thinking about trying 18th Street and FFF. I see 18th Street has a bottle release that day. Does anyone have any idea if their tap room will be accessible or will it be too crowded? We are hoping to try a number of their beers.
If we want to purchase the release bottles and others they may have, are we looking at lines 1 hour plus?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks
    Dave

You will probably need to get there around 11 if you do not want to wait in line when they open...maybe 30-45 min wait if you get there at noon...at least that is how is was for the GFD release. Separate line for bottles typically...should only take a couple minutes once inside.

Just go later in the afternoon after the big rush of people showing up at open. There will still be bottles available.

18th street will be a good place to check out, like others said go after the rush of people.

I'd like to see 18th Street do well but their bomber prices are bordering on abomberable, err abominable. $12 for the Sinister DIPA. $15 for GFD. I know they are not having problems selling them so it seems there is no ceiling for bomber prices. But these prices make Chicago area $10 DIPAs look downright cheap unless there is some sort of Indiana exchange rate I don't know about  I'd recommend saving the money from any bottle purchase and just enjoy 2 more pints there on draft.

Not a bad idea. Though not my main reason for going, I wouldn't mind picking up a couple bombers of Sinister. Do you think they will have them later in the afternoon?

There absolutely will be bottles available later in the day...likely for a day or two...live music starts at ~2...come on out and check the place out

Considering Sinister will not be served in a pint glass your math is a little off ...$6 snifters most likely..but, why not grab a couple bottles to share with your clueless craft beer buddies...we all have them.

Bottom line is we are talking about supporting small business...the guys and gals @ 18th St are passionate and the beer is fantastic IMO. No other Chi brewery that I know of sells a comparable DIPA cheaper on draft...then you have the Crook County tax...there is your "exchange rate"...

    Cheers...hope to see ya Sunday

Agreed, that's why I recommended having a few pints (or snifters ) on draft in lieu of purchasing a bottle. Their draft prices are great. It's the bottle prices which seem quite high to me in comparison to other local breweries who self-distribute or sell on premise. I agree with your other sentiments otherwise. Cheers!

I love everything about this thread...18th street definitely deserves a bigger following as Drew has done some great stuff, not only for 18th but for Pipeworks too.

I was at the Grapefruit Dead release and made the mistake of showing up just before noon and there was quite a line, I'll be more conscious of that this Sunday. But as most have mentioned, bottles will be available for a couple days (Grapefruit Dead almost lasted a week) and they are sure to have some on tap.

As a side note, highly recommend you make the 30 minute drive to Munster before/afterwards as Permanent Funeral is back for carry out...

I was impressed by the Hunter Coffee release. No lines. Each bottle came in a special bag (burlap?) with a little tag that had a bottle number. There was also a little Hunter Coffee sticker in the bag. Very nice for such a small brewery. They seem to be doing a lot of things right.

That was the first release. The word is out, and the lines are getting longer. I agree with others that have stated about showing up a bit later. Either way, very good beer and worth the trip/wait!

I've never taken the south shore train. Can you drink on it?

Alcohol is permitted. There is a restriction for certain dates, mainly festival dates in Chicago. No glass bottles permitted.

Bottle Share? Are they gonna allow outside bottles?

Never been to 18th Street, but how does the music sound? In door or outside tent?

What is the speculation on the event? (Besides grab and go on the bottles)

18th is more than worth the trip, everyone there (Drew and Anna especially) are extremely friendly and love the company...there's a reason why they are the best new brewery in Indiana...
