The Hammond location has been better recently. Better taplist and options for carry out. that said, this Saturday it looks like Hunter Chile Pepper is dropping at the Gary location only.
I would say go to which ever location is closest. If it's about the same, I'd opt for Gary. I haven't been to Gary since Hammond opened but I kind of enjoyed the vibe at Gary more. Smaller, seating along the window if you couldn't find anything at the bar. Check his website (not Facebook) for what's available at both locations.
Agree with other posters for sure. I go to Hammond now because it's closer to me, but it's so dark and damp in there. I enjoy the Gary location much better, but not willing to spend the extra 30-40 minutes round trip to get there.
When are you going and how far are you traveling? If you are trying to make a day of it, go to the Gary location then walk/relax it off at the beach around there. I prefer Hammond due to its closer proximity to me and ability to jump over to FFF faster, and more taps/carryout options. That being said, if you are coming from Chicago, Gary has the convenience of being able to take the South Shore Line train to within a few blocks of the brewery.
Congrats on being the first person in 70 years to use "make a day of it" and Gary in the same sentence.
I'll be up there June 19-24 but I'm originally a Northwest Indiana Region Rat that has since moved to Texas so I don't get up there very often. I might go to both but not sure I'll have time with family stuff. I'll be staying in Hammond and have a car. It might be nice to see how much that part of Gary has changed since I left over 10 years ago.
Tried my first Hunter and would like more. When or how often is it released so I know whnen to look to trade for it. Thanks!
You can probably find bottles sitting on the shelf throughout the state along with their Sour Note offerings. I at least know I see them around here. The variants are a different story.
