Took advantage of the warmer weather yesterday (37 degrees) and brewed my first SMaSH. It was also my first 10 gallon batch. I did a simple 2 row, Simcoe SMaSH that I plan to dry hop in a few weeks. Anxious to see how it turns out. The brew day itself went pretty smooth. I love me some APA's and IPA's, but the swig I took was seriously dank! I hope it chills out when I bottle it. I'm sure time will do it wonders, as always. Cheers
I loved the simcoe smash I made. My wife said it smelled like cat pee and dandelions. I was excited about that! My favorite smash so far was a Nelson Sauvin with pilsner malt. It was super citrusy.
inchrisin, I've got a group of guys that generally "offer me feedback" on my brews. And by offer, I mean if they come over and drink one, it sucks. If they drink the batch, it's a keeper. MarkGP, the Nelson sounds awesome. I tend to favor the citrus side of hops, but am still trying to learn as much as I can so try to mix it up occasionally for some new knowledge.
Love solo simcoe beers. Try Chinook next time. it's my favorite single hop I've done. Slight threadjack: I have a Maris Otter, UK Pilgrim smash planned for next week. I was thinking 1968 or West Yorkshire for yeast. Thoughts?
I propose an end to SMaSH beers because SMaTH beers are twice as good. Learn two hops at once. Better yet, learn how two hops interact! Single malt. Two hops. SMaTH. You heard it here first. SMaTH beers!
