Fortunate enough to have some 2013 in the cellar to compare to 2014

2013- Best before date is 4/9/2014
    2014- Bottled on 11/5/2014

Looks like they are moving away from BB dates

2013- A- Opens well and pours next to no head. Dark brown
2014- A- Same as above. No difference

2013- S- Tons of chocolate. Lots of coffee
2014- S- Way subdued. Almost non existent compared to the 2013. A bit of a rubbing alcohol scent. Touch metallic scent

2013- T- Heavy chocolate. Enormous amounts of it. Blended completely now. Tough to separate flavors compared to when I remembered it last year.
2014- T- Low chocolate. Bitter. Touch grainy. That rubbing alcohol is back.

2013- M- Good and creamy with a bite
2014- M- Same as above. No difference

2013- O- Wonderful still after a year. Love it.
2014- O- Not so great. An almost night and day difference. Almost dislike the 2014. That weird stainless steel smell and taste just ruin this beer. May I have a bad bottle but will try one in a couple of weeks to see.

Never expected this. Doubt the brewery would change the recipe in any way from year to year.

    Interesting

Yea - most of your descriptors of '14 were not what I found at all. Might want to try a new four-pack possibly. Nice to hear '13 held up well though.

Yeah agreed you may have had a skunked batch from 2014. Def worth grabbing a new 4-pack

I actually did this exact comparison on Friday as well. I was a very curious, considering the general concensus is that Breakfast Stout is not ideal for aging.

The 2013 was still incredible. A little smoother, but subdued flavors. However, it just didn't hold a candle to the 2014. This is clearly an imperial stout that is best enjoyed fresh.

I had a taste of the 2012, 2013, and 2014 about 3 weeks ago. We actually had a quite different experience, felt that the 2013 was the odd man out in terms of flavor and mouthfeel, whereas the 2014 and 2012 were more similar, but the coffee notes fading over time.

Ok! Tried another out. Metallic smell and taste is not there this time. A TON of chocolate here. Lots of coffee but the chocolate is intense. Not hot, not usual compared to the '13 but definitely has an edge while the 2013 has a much more mild backbone to it.

This was a new 4pk I got late last year so I will try another of the batch from November's purchase to see if a difference.

Both are nice. Will save them for this coming November and report back!
