Just found a Pliny in the back of my IPA fridge that was dated 3/1/12. I have too say with all the talk of fresh Pliny this and fresh Pliny that, I wasn't expecting much. To my surprise I thought it was still better than most iPad's out there.

    Just saying?

Yeah, I think the notion of freshness is a bit overblown. Sure, it's faded a little, but I'm still drinking Hopslam and love every ounce of it.

I'm with you. I have no doubt that Pliny would inevitably fail to live up to the hype, but it's got to be better than an iPad

I don't see why people want to be so damn uppity. It's still going to be good unless you stored it outside on your patio for two months.

So......you have an entire fridge devoted to IPAs?

    That's pretty badass.

Absolutely drinkable, super fresh Pliny 2-5 days old is crazy good with an absurd amount of citrus fruit and pine. Over a couple months the briteness fades a bit but the malt and hops get real happy together for a little bit, after three months though, for me at least the malt bill takes over.

    Cheers....

I'd take the iPad, sell it on eBay, then buy more Pliny. Unless the wife got the iPad.

Then I'd just buy more Pliny anyway. If I could get it in MA.

But yeah... certainly not as good as fresh, but certainly still drinkable and enjoyable. And far better that it was in the fridge than on a warm shelf somewhere.

IPAs are best fresh. But they don't become undrinkable or anything over time, they just lose some hop character.

Unlike Apple's claims about its gadgets, Pliny really is magical.

    Steve Jobs drank Pliny.

    True Story.

    Probably not.

My first Pliny was 3 months old and it changed my life.

Needless to say I don't completely buy the extreme freshness craze. I get it and I have seen the effects of age on an IPA, but I don't think "old" IPA is necessarily "bad" IPA.

Pliny also isn't $20/bottle while other comparable IIPAs like Maharaja, Blue Dot, Wisdom Seeker, and Sculpin are ~$7/bottle.

^^^^^ Apple vs PC price argument.

I recently made an even more horrific discovery in my basement...I had to move all my beer bottles due to a broken dishwasher leaking water into my basement and all over my bottle shelves. To my horror, I discovered a 6 month old bottle of Pliny hiding behind other bottles of RR. Needless to say, I am going to save it and do a side by side with a freh one after it hits the 1 year mark.

I've had 3 month old Pliny and still thought it was good. Definitely dropped off a bit though. I've had 3 month old Lunch too, and it had just started to drop off.
