Has anyone tried this recently? I'm not sure how well it has been cellared, I found it at my local store and it was $5 so I decided to take the risk. The first problem I can think of is that this stuff is bottled with a twist-off cap. I want to hear any feedback, I will be drinking this tomorrow regardless. I'll make sure to post an update and mini-review tomorrow or the day after.

Dear god they had a 2003 on the shelves? For $5??!! Did they have more????

It being a twist off cap, I do see that being a problem. However, let us know how it goes. Very interesting find

They had 3 of them which was even more surprising. I'm not expecting it to be great but I'm sure it will at least be interesting.

The peche mortel bottle date is not actually the bottle date, they are more akin to batch numbers, but no one has been able to figure out the code. There should be some info if you search around. I thought the same thing about the date...

Ah, had no idea about this. I still think it's pretty old since the recent bottles I've seen don't have the twist off cap.

For $5, you should buy it all regardless of its age. I had an aged Peche Mortel not too long ago (first batch in the 750 mL bottle) and it still held up and bursted with coffee.

Has anyone figured out the dating convention used for these bottles yet?
I have been combing the intrawebs for a bit now and can't seem to find any sort of confirmation.

The bottle I got the other day definitely has a twist off, which I thought was incredibly strange for a beer of this quality... My first one ever, and it is unbelievable!

Typically I wouldn't age a coffee stout, but finding something that old is awesome. Let us know how it turns out.

I resurrected this thread from several years ago in an attempt to figure out the brewery's dating system, but I have read (in multiple places) the coffee holds up extremely well with this one :grinning:

Should've paid more attention. i don't know the dating system so I can't help. now that I know the coffee holds up i might need to throw a few in the cellar for a while.

It holds up incredibly well, and even at a decade there's no bitterness or peppery taste. One of the best coffee stouts ever brewed in my opinion.

Are the American distro bottles special? Cause it's really easy to tell the bottle date here. We still have twist off though :stuck_out_tongue:
