It should be fine...if nothing else its interesting...would be cool if you could get a relatively fresh one to do a side by side with...for what its worth...I just did a 3 year KBS vertical '11-'13...interestingly the '12 finished last, the '13 had the up front bourbon, the '11 was pure liquid gold...creamy and smooth as silk with the bourbon still present...looking forward to hear how your tasting goes...Good Luck!!!

If it's anything like the 2003 BA Speedway, it's going to be marvelous...I popped a bottle of '03 for my birthday two years ago!

I had the privelege of having the '03 BA Speedway at 8 years & 9 years. The first bottle was excellent, the second bottle was mind-blowingly good.

I had the most recent release a couple of times & while it's a fine beer, it didn't hold up to either of the '03 bottles. No idea if the formula changed over the years or the age treated it particularly well, but I envy you. That would be a fine birthday beer - good luck!

I usually am of the opinion that it's stupid to age BA stouts that long, but that said BA Speedway seems to be an exception. The 03 and 04 BA Speedways I've had have been amazing. The coffee is faded but I swear they used a different recipe back then that yielded q bigger body and more rich flavors. These were my favorite batches until this year's BA versions.

It's honestly going to taste like crap. Don't open it. Just keep it sealed on a shelf.

I doubt it will be bad bad but I do prefer all of AleSmith's beers fresh, including the barrel aged stuff.

Go in with an open mind. I'm pretty sure you'll find it tasty. Then, report back.

I once bought 3 bottles of the 06 BA Speedway. Bought them the same day at the release. Drank them 2, 4, and 6 months after the release. All were stored the same way.

The 2 month old was superb. The 4 month old was oxidized to hell. And the 6 month old was good.

Overall, its been my experience with all of the BA Alesmiths they are the best beer you've ever had. Or the most oxidized. No in between.

For me that would be a toss up. Let's hope its the former.

Eleven years is twenty-one times longer than your six month aging of '06. Unless OP doesn't know what beer tastes like, opening this bottle will offer no gain.

I agree. Just pointing out I've had pretty much all the BA Alesmiths over the years. And there is wide variability in taste whether aged or fresh. Just ticks me off that beer from the same bottling was so off. When it should have been good fresh. FWIW

Yeah, I agree completely. I'm a sucker for a good Deliverance or Angel Share and always seem to spend dough on two misses before one hit.
In this particular case, I would just take the loss and keep a new friend on the mantle...
It's a shame, but the misunderstanding between kept wine and kept beer seems to be too regular, these days.

Agreed. I really like the sherry like oxidation flavors that show in some aged beers. Problem is, you don't know if you are going to get sherry or brown paper bag.

That cost was split two ways. Normally I wouldn't consider it.

As promised, I cracked this beer open. Here's the verdict. It was f'ing brilliant! Honestly, it's one of the best beers I have ever had. It kept its bourbon notes, coffee notes were still present. Just unreal. I'll post pics tomorrow!!!
