All this great talk about 2007 BCBS is making me thirsty to try it. In that spirit I am curious about what it would take to land 2 each of 2005/2006 for a BCBS Vert and Variant tasting I'm trying to put together.

    I recently traded 4 BCBS for 1 '05 BCBS.

    2 X 2011
    1 X 2010
    1 X 2008

Hope that gives you some idea, though it may be tough to extrapolate to other beers...

good luck. 2005 is almost impossible. 2006 is hard, but not impossible. 2007 is the first year i would start with though. 2006 has declined, in my opinion.

    Mark,

    how was the 05?

It would probably be quite the hassle because there aren't many left at this point. Sought after more recent BA RIS bottles, a RIS/BA-RIS of comparable age to get the conversation going, maybe a 6pk of fresh Zombie Dust?

I actually sent it down to my Reserve Society trustee. Not sure when, but he's doing the full vert soon and has promised to write up a review.

It's at sheffields, but they're just letting the hypetrain build up behind it. FWIW, almost every 06 i have had has been oxidized to some degree, so i imagine the 05 would be even worse by now?

Has the '06 been oxidized through the years, or is this a more recent development?

I had a 2007 a few months back and felt it was going downhill. It was still good, but enough of a decline that I drank the rest of my 2007 bottles that night.

This thread is reminding me how low my BCBS inventory has become.

We just did a vertical of BCS from 06-11 because one of the guys had an 05 back in December and said it had fallen off. The general concensus was the 06 and 09 were the favorites with 08 being right behind them. My personal favorite was the 06 although if it were a little more carbonated it would have been flawless imo.

06 oxidization a relatively recent development in my opinion. Had only had it prior at the end of 2010 but recall it being good back then. The 07 was drinking perfect, on par with 08, in my opinion, but I'd probably rather have 08 than 07 just because it is "younger" (less likely, perhaps, to oxidize sooner) and just as good

Cool, thanks for the feedback. I have 1 '06 and 2 '07's left, but haven't had either in a while.

Could you please describe the oxidized flavors you got from the '06 BCBS specifically?

'09 is drinking the best for me right now. Just fucking awesome and my top BB stout ever.

To be fair the '09 is the oldest vintage I've had so I am only comparing it to more recent releases

Lol. Don't blame my post for the hype. I only relayed what I was told by the person who brought it. #HypeClicks

EDIT: also, i guess my 06 notes were a lot less "in depth" that I thought lol. Probably would have been easier to copy/paste the 2 sentences i wrote on it.

We did '04 to '11 in the winter. Most people had '08-'09 as the best. There was some year to year variability of the amount of oxidation, which could be attributed to some of the bottles being from different owners (and therefore stored differently).

The old ones '04-'06 were definitely interesting, but if I wanted one to drink I would probably pick an '09 cause I like it with a bit more of the bourbon heat.

That said, the beer we had the least available to us was '05. So that one may be tough to score. You could possibly score a '06 if you are lucky and find the right person.

The 05 seemed noticibly different than the other versions. Not to start the rumor thread again, but I'd heard that the 05 was aged in different barrels? Jack Daniels? Jim Beam?

The consensus at our tasting (about 6 months ago) was that 2007 was the least enjoyable and 2008 the most, with the others somewhere in between.

Oh - and to the original question, the 2005 was hard to find - I think landing two bottles would be very difficult. 2006 should be considerably easier, but then BCBS has really blown up in value/difficulty in the last six months, so who knows.

Dude don't you remember I did the same thing at DLD lol

In all seriousness it would have taken over a hundred glasses and plastic
Cups ensured we could make te pour sizes right, no worry about broken glasses, or have to wash said hundred plus glasses

We did LOTS of beer that night in addition To the vertical too
