Is this beer even that desirable anymore? I know it's fallen off compared to other vintages, but I'd still like to score a bottle to complete my vertical for my bachelor party this summer.

I've been asking around but haven't gotten any bites. Is this beer still around, and what's the trade value given the consensus that the beer is long past its prime?

My opinion, and a rather unimportant one I'm sure, is that this beer probably has fallen off significantly. Even people who drink it, and want to 'taste the rarity' have been pretty harsh lately, so that's a good sign that it's really not very good.

With that said, taste is about the least important factor in trade value these days, so I would say that this is still considered a fairly sizeable whale, and whatever you give up for it, will likely be great beer, that you would be better off keeping.

There's a lot of years of Abyss out there... I'm working on a vertical myself (I have 07/08/10/11/12) for a tasting, and honestly, it'd be nice to have an 06' in the mix, it's more for the morbid curiosity, and not because I think it'll be the "best of the bunch" (which, from most accounts, is actually the 10', which I've had several times, and love)

Like Brian said in Clerks. Sometimes you just gotta let those last few pringles go....

We did a full Abyss vertical about 9 months ago, and we all thought 06 was near the head of the pack.

I traded a BA Behemoth for one in the first round of Unwanted Whales a while back if you are looking for comparative value.

    Cheers!

This. Did a full vert over the holidays, and '06 was at the top with the '08. Still drinking great IMO, though I preferred the '08 vintage. That's the one to go after.

Double this. We did a full vertical this past summer & the '06 was second only to the '08. Not as vibrant as when it was fresh, but still kicks the snot out of most beers.

I'm in the same boat...have 07-12 and have been contemplating trying to track down the 06 for a full vertical tasting. The price is the only thing keeping me from doing it...people are asking (and should) for a lot in return. I've heard conflicting reports on how it's doing nowadays but honestly it's more about being able to say FULL Abyss vertical instead of just Abyss vertical.

I'm in the same boat. I actually had it back in 2011 and didn't think it was anywhere near as good as the '08 or '10. Could've been storage conditions, but I've heard a lot of the same. This thread just adds to the debate.

Thanks for the heads-up. Damn, that's more expensive than I wanted to pay.

Yeah, it's likely not worth the asking price IMO, unless I suddenly come upon some desirable beers that I don't want.

Thanks for the input all. If anyone in the SF Bay Area is looking to get rid of one, let me know and maybe we can do something IP.
