I just posted this: http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/iso-2007-bcbs.43857/ Since we can't reply in that forum, I'm soliciting constructive feedback here because I have no idea if I'm way off or not. I know, if I hear crickets I'm not offering enough and if my inbox gets flooded I'm selling myself short. I'm looking for ideas on specific beers to offer. Thanks.
You are asking for a limited shelf beer but the kicker is the 5 years of dust ancillary to the bottle that you are seeking. I don't think that you are out of line entirely but I would probably try and up the stakes with a moderately desired brewery only or something that costs more to reward someone for 60 months of storage. Cigar City Marshal Zhukov's - probably not Life & Limb (both batches) - probably not Jackie O's - Dark App and a few variants, Kentucky Monk - perhaps, to the right trader Midnight Sun Treat - this is the closest IMO Founder's Nemesis 2010 - maybe. I would drop something like a Parabola into the water and see what happens. I know it is for a vert but I had an 07 3 months ago and it was like the closed captioning was turned on, not the fulfilling experience I remembered outta BCBS. But if you need to get that vert hole filled, push it deep.
Hey Ben - I had a someone offer me a 4pack of 2007 bcbs for a Bruery White Chocolate. I didn't spring for it at the time because I was concerned the vintage might be on it's way downhill. Supoena's comment makes me feel a little bit better, because I've been kicking myself for not pulling the trigger on that one.
i think they're all probably a bit off, unless someone is just sitting on a ton of vintage BCBS and doesn't care. it's not like being 5 years old suddenly makes it spectacularly valuable, it's just that it's unlikely that someone has been holding on to a beer for 5 years waiting to trade it for stuff they could buy something off the shelf (e.g. BCBS12) and trade for. then again, since you're not looking for 1:1, it's possible that someone will jump at it. if a BCBS07 magically appeared in my cellar, i'd PM you offering it for some jackie o's and nemesis, with me making up the rest of the $4$ or oz's or whatever. (shrug) hell, i'd probably just trade it for the nemesis, but i'm not really a value stickler (despite my annoying propensity for replying in beer trading - general).
I could be up for this. I have some JO's, but I'd only be interested in a much bigger trade. Tacking on $10 in shipping to one '07 BCS isn't gonna do it for me.
I understand the desire to fill out a vertical, but honestly goin back prior to 08 is a waste IMHO. I had 06-11 last year soon after 11 came out. 06 was over the hill, 07 just like my prior experiences is to hot and harsh and never seems to mellow out, 08 on the multiple occasions I've had is phenomenal as is 09, we broke the top off 10 by accodent and poured it out, 11 was bland in comparison to 08 and 09
Don't worry, as long as you've got some 2012 BCBS, you can ask for a Midnight Sun - M, 5 Rare's, a Black Tuesday and someone's first born... Everyone else seems to!
Didn't mean to offend, just looked at the ISO:FT and saw that there are some pretty steep trade prices for this years batch. It must be good
What have you tried to trade for BCBS, out of curiosity? I haven't had any trouble finding reasonable traders out there...
That's cool. I think it may be natural for people to want to get the most for their limited beer, but it does get a little ridiculous sometimes. When I was new to trading it didn't take long for fellow BA's to let me know that I couldn't get a Black Tuesday for an NC off the shelfer (a lesson learned the hard way). But, at the end of the day, someone will blister these new traders enough to where they either wise up, or just screw someone out of a good box and never log on again.... It's a sad trading world out there right now.... **steps down off soap box
I haven't personally put out an ISO, I was just sayin that based on some of the "FT: BCBS" lately, the ISO's have been a little bit of a stretch IMO
LOL So, let me get this straight: because a few people put out some ridiculous ISOs (which happens with just about every "in-demand" beer right after release), the state of trading is horrible and people with BCBS are being ridiculous, which you know despite not posting an ISO? I'm no fan of people asking for the world with every new beer that comes out (though, truth be told, it really doesn't bother me that much), but to be so negative just because of a few posts that you find ridiculous without even trying to post your own trade is equally ridiculous, IMO. There's already plenty of negativity towards trading without people lamenting the state of trading just because of a few posts involving every new release...
People ask for a range of stuff for each new release. New traders tend to shoot for the moon. Lots of people have 2012 BCBS. Lots of new traders have 2012 BCBS. The range of what people are asking for is across the board.
Say what you want, but I do feel like the trading world has declined a little bit, not based solely on people asking a lot for their beer (I get that), but because of the increase in "bad trader alerts" lately. Calm down, I like BCBS too, and I'm not downing every state that has Goose Island distribution, just sayin that if you look at some FT:BCBS, they are a stretch. I get stuff via regular trading partners, so it doesn't matter to me either....
