Has anyone cracked one of these recently? I really enjoy dark lord especially 08 and 09 and I wanted to know how the 07 was holding up.

I still have a few and have been tempted to pop one open. If I do, I'll get back to you - even if this thread is dead and buried (assuming the lack of response continues).

Had an '06 a couple months ago and it was beyond stellar. My previous experience with Dark Lord had only been a fresh one and an '08 about 4 months ago, but man, the '06 was something entirely different. I'd say your '07 will be quite the treat.

I put the 07 in the middle of the 06-12 vert:
    (best > worst) 08, 06, 10, 07, 11, 12, 09

    11/12 variants ranking:
    11 brandy vanilla
    12 bourbon vanilla
    12 cognac
    11 pappy
    12 bourbon
    11 bourbon w/ chilies
    11 brandy
    12 cognac de muerte

the decanter in the middle, aka Voltron, had about 2oz of each of the 15 bottles

Now why would you go and ruin all that barrel-aged Dark Lord like that...

I opened an 07 back at DLD this year and thought it was one of the better beers I've ever had. It's definitely not falling off yet IMO.

the 07 was good but just seemed thinner, imo, compared to the 06, 08 and 10.

there must be some mistake. 09 listed as the worst? it is drinking flawlessly right now.

Interesting idea ....so what was the verdict on Voltron's taste ?

just because it may have been ranked last doesn't mean it was bad.
we got that one in a trade from Cali so can't necessarily vouch for prior storage conditions...

nothing was even close to the 06 and 08, with the group split as to which was best

the Voltron tasted good - of course our palates were destroyed by that point.
imo, it helped dilute out the heat from the Muertes (the '12 de Muerte was almost undrinkable for me)

agreed on the muerte. we did a voltron of the BA DLs and it was actually not bad at all...but definitely agree with you on the brandy vanilla as tops and then the bourbon vanilla...just mashmellow goodness.

I actually liked the cognac de muerte best of the 2012 varients followed closely by the vanilla, bourbon and cognac. The muerte was spicy, but it really worked for me. If the pepper was dialed down a little bit, it would have been perfection.

Had the 07 last weekend. With age it gained superb balance, real complexity, bouquet and a gorgeous mouth feel. Its in a good place now and has peaked.
