I have a 2008 Three Philosophers and was wondering if anyone has had one of these recently and how it was
    drinking ?

I'm a little apprehensive in opening it and will consider keeping it even longer if someone who has had one recently says it's still drinking good.

Thanks in advance for any info .

    Cheers !

I haven't had it at more than a year and a half but this topic comes up every so often and from what I've read you'd be OK to hold onto it for another couple of years. At the restaurant that I work at we set aside three cases of 2011 to age for a few years. I haven't heard any negative reviews on aging this beer yet.

Thanks for the info , I bought a gift pack a year ago and didn't realize the date on the bottles , it had chocolate indulgence , hennepin , and the three philosophers and a really nice glass , The only one I have had from it was the chocolate indulgence and it wasn't holding up very well, tasted like dirty pennies and pretty much ended up a drain pour ..

Had a 2009 a couple months ago and this beer is nowhere near being over the hill so I'd say it's fine to let go for awhile. I've got a 4 pack of 2009 left and I'm probably going to try 1 per year until they're gone.

I posted this in the June Cellar Reviews thread about the '08 vintage:
"Interesting stuff, lots of vinous and leafy, almost tobaccoish flavors have developed. The fruit is quite subdued at this point. This isn't a beer I keep onhand or cellar regularly, but it was a pretty successful experiment."

I received an '05 as an extra recently. When did they start bottling 3 Phil?
