We just opened 4 2009 bottles from Goose Island. All were stored in a temp controlled cellar since release. All were opened today at the same time and tasted cold and then warmer. The comments below are based on the second tasting when the most character could be ascertained from the beer.

2009 Pere Jacques - this one is still drinkable and still has some character to it, but likely not for much more time. I would not keep this one for any length of time longer. In my opinion, drink now (and, respectfully, you still may find it over the hill). Conclusion: This one is still alive and just holding on.

2009 Matilda - very thin; watery; almost no character whatsoever.

2009 Sophie - there is still some body and character to the Sophie, although there is an aggressive herbal character that some may not find pleasant. I thought it still had some merit and may well be a decent food beer and perhaps even enjoyable. It has retained (or perhaps even gotten more?) complexities. Worth trying. I would not keep much longer.

2009 Juliet - very thin; watery; almost no character whatsoever.

The above is just my opinion.

thanks for the notes. FWIW I don't have much experience with GI aged, but really enjoyed the 2012 Pere Jacques I had shortly after the new year. I have a 2013 tucked away aging now... do you have any inclination on when it may peak? It claims 5 years is fine, but your assessment of the 2009 makes me have my doubts.

I'm hoping that you just had a bad 2009 Matilda. That's one of Lynell's favorite beers and by great luck, she has her own vertical tasting to do of 2006-2013 in the near future. Good or bad, it will still be a great time.
