I've got a bottle of Sam Adams Chocolate Bock with a Enjoy before April 2009 for fresh Brewery taste date on it. It has been sitting in a regular fridge since I got it. Any thoughts on this one?

I'm guessing the alcohol on it has mellowed out by now. Should be good to drink it up now.

It's probably nice and ripe! I'd give it a shot.

I came upon a passel of 2008s in the cooler of a second-rate (read: non craft-beer oriented) liquor store a few months back. I took a gamble knowing the hazards, and I was pleasantly surprised. The way the beer is sealed probably helped.

Age didn't improve the beer, per se. But it did taste just as I remembered it (especially before Sam Adams switched to the small bottle format). Malts and milk chocolate notes were both present and no off-notes detected. I tried Chocolate Bock the first year it was released and was an instant fan. An underappreciated, misunderstood beer, IMO.

Here we go - I'm having a 2009 right now... very mellow chocolate aroma and taste.
Smooth but lacking flavor. I think it was more intense cocoa 5 years ago but the lack of malty bock is still an issue. And it was never worth the extra price... still high quality beer and tastes good.

I have a 2010 that's been cellared since it was purchased that Christmas. I didn't love this when it was new - anyone think it'll be worth the 5+ years?

Worth giving it a shot. It probably hasn't changed too much if it's been refrigerated the whole time.

I have a similar concern with a Sam Adams Imperial Pilsner 2007 I have... wondering how that one has changed.
