Anybody know what barrels this is aged on? I'm drinking it now, and it is fantastic. Has some brandy tones that I love.
3 different barrels. I think that its a wine barrel, a whiskey barrel, and an oak barrel. Then blended. Someone confirm this, but I think its close.
I had the 2010 at City Beer Store last week and the bartender said it was whiskey, brandy, and some sort of red wine I believe. I think they might switch it up a bit from year to year though.
Thanks for the replies. I was hesitant to buy this beer because of the price, but now it's on my list of yearly must gets.
The first rule of finding Arctic Devil is to buy Arctic Devil. Do not question your conscience or wallet.
Aged Arctic Devil is fantastic. The only problem with aging ithem is leaving them alone long enough to age.
agreed. aging does this beer well. The 2008 vintage we drank a few months ago was outstanding. Much better than 2010.
Agreed 2007 and 2008 have been incredible when I've tried them recently. Not sure that they're the same beers though, as I remember loving them more fresh than I do the more recent ones (which are still very nice, but just not as robust and caramelly as I remember).
Also had the 2010 on tap at City Beer like nate. An excellent beer, no doubt. But then again, there are a crapload of delicious barleywines out there. I actually prefer Deschutes Mirror Mirror or Weyerbacher Insanity...not to mention Pelican MOAS!
