$4$ with other shelf beers, unless you get someone who REALLY wants it, it has been on the shelves here for 6 months +
Very true. That is the answer for 99% of the "walez" BAs find on the shelf, though they probably do not want to hear it.
Have you seen the thread about disappointing "walez"? If you look at what most people posted there, you'd see why this is so...guess what, if you can find it on the shelf, 99.9% of the time it isn't a whale and you won't be able to trade it for Prop, of DBH, or vintage lambic.
99% do not, this one sounds like it did at one point. http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/388/18467/?view=beer&sort=&start=50
Are you talking about standard Old Stock or the Brandy Barrel larger bottles? If it's the latter, please message me if you're willing to snag a couple to trade with. I would greatly appreciate it.
The nice thing, though, is that whale QUALITY beers often do sit on shelves. I'd say the Old Stock Cellar Reserve is "whale quality" - whatever that means since many of the whale beers (or pseudo-whales) are pretty underwhelming. One of the best Old Ales around. But, yeah, the OP isn't going to be able to trade it for over $4$.
This is dead on observation. World class BA old ale. The bourbon is pretty close to the brandy, but its just slightly rougher around the edges because its hotter; brandy old stock is much smoother and has more complexity/depth. I bought 4 bottles of brandy old stock off the shelf with the intentions of drinking one fresh and letting the rest age a long time because these bottles also cellar ridiculously well. Well that idea of cellaring the remaining bottles hasn't worked well for me. I open the second bottle a few weeks ago and it blew my mind again, just like it did the first time when I had it fresh. The last two bottles I have will not last more than 6 months...guaranteed.
