Just cracked open a bottle of last year's Parabola and IMO, this beer is getting better with age. It was downright delicious. I remember reading some threads a while back and some members were saying that Parabola was best fresh and that the flavors would just fall off with time. I could not disagree more. Anyone else crack open a Parabola lately?
Yes same with the abacus... I did a back to back with the sucaba and was suprised i like the abacus better
Yes! Me and my buddy did a back to back with Sucaba and Abacus not too long ago and we reached the same verdict as you. Both were great, but had to give it up to Abacus.
I really liked the taste of '10 I had when it was about a year old, so I expected good things from '11. I didn't have the same experience with Abacus, though, I think it fell off a lot.
I opened a 2011 a few weeks ago after dinner and loved it. Wondering what another year will do to this.
great to hear. A few friends and I will be carcking open '10, '11, and '12 in June up at the Firestone Beerfest along with '11 and '12 SucabacuS, and Firestone 12-15. Can't wait to see how they have all developed
I had a 2010 Parabola about 4 weeks ago and it was superb, can't imagine 2011 going "bad" anytime soon.
Had a 2011 a few weeks ago thanks to a trade. Outstanding beer. Don't see it any better at ANY point.
This is good news. I was considering trading some away because of the falling off reports. I think I will hang on to them now.
I think people got jumpy on Parabola because Abacus was getting a lot of reports of weird aging. Their anniversary beers hold up well though, so I tend to think Abacus was more the exception than the rule. That said, FW barrel aged beers truly are perfectly ready to drink when released. No real reason to age them other than to "save some for later".
had a 2011 this christmas and it was pure coconut and vanilla. it was unbelievable. favorite stout easily.
I had a 2011 at a stout tasting recently. I tried it along with a CBS, KBS, Chocolate Rain, Black Tuesday and some other heavy hitters and the 2011 Parabola really held its own. It was one of my favorites of the tasting, even in that company.
The case in your cellar also just called me. Apparently some of the bottles are forming a rebellion and are looking for a new cellar to occupy.
I recently had a 2010 and a 2011 Parabola side-by-side and the 2010 blew it away (the flavor profile was much smoother more rounded). Despite the growing trend to drink all beers fresh, I think that a year or so helps smooth out a lot of the rough edges that you often find on younger bottles of many of the "bigger" beers.
