had a 2011 Straffe Hendrik Tripel over the weekend. Acquired a bottle little over a year ago, had no idea it was from 2011 (the cork said 2011).

Super sweet, crazy amount of sediment, caramel hue/flavor. Wasn't bad, per se, especially with the mussels I cooked to eat it with. Not much spicy/bubble gum esters or anything, carbonation was still perfect though.

Guess I'm wondering if others have had similar experiences with traditional Tripels and how they have aged?

I am generally not a fan of aging tripels. The only one that I have had success with is Cuvee van de Keizer Rood.

Straffe Tripel is a Brugs Tripel, which tend to be a bit maltier and more amber to begin with. The large amount of sediment speaks to likely poor handling at some point along the line.
