I have sat on this way too long... I got it at issue and have cellared it, a combination of "a special night" and maybe ignorance..... has anyone tasted this bottle (2012) lately at all? I assume we are past the prime and I plan on drinking it very soon but wondered if anyone had opinions or had tasted it, thank you very much in advance!

Had one at NYE, it was dead. Nothing like it was fresh, very oxidized, dull. Open it now, and be ready to pour out.

Opened one January 2015 and it was good. Not as good as the fresh kegs were last year, but still good.

Trading or selling a beer that you suspect might be bad might not be worth the bad beer karma down the line...

I had it on tap. I wouldn't quite go as far as to say that it was "dead". But it lost a little bit. Still pretty good though, at least to my taste buds. Just felt that there was some taste that didn't quite make it all the way. Seemed to be somewhere in the maple syrup, at least to me. Everyone is different, and it was still good, so enjoy!!

Pretty sure they've made batches since the 2012 bottling, so anything you find on tap now or in the recent past were likely newer vintage.

They did a second draft only batch mid 2015.

Opened one up last weekend with some friends. Our bottle was phenomenal. Still had that bourbon and maple kick. Slightly more fudgey than the recent batch and not nearly as hot.

Both CBH and CBS have been getting big menthol notes from extended aging. The common denominator of both beers is aging in bliss barrels. Last time I had a sample of CBS was about 6 months and it had big menthol character present.

thanks to all-- I had it July 3rd with friends, we loved it! not much maple, not much bourbon, the chocolate really was strong. Clearly not a bad bottle, no problems (I was not great about storage conditions). No idea what it tasted like in its prime but very happy with this, up there as a favorite for me.. to the extent it was a shadow of itself-- if so then it must have been truly truly amazing. Thanks again to all of you, and all the best...

Hey all, I just agreed to trade $80 of Tree House & Trillium for one bottle of 2011 Founders CBS. How's it drinking right now?? A buddy of mine encouraged me to ask because he's heard it's awful.

Are you getting the CBS or the Trillium & Tree House? Personally I think that is way too much for one bottle of beer, no matter how good. I've mostly heard that the CBS has fallen off, though I wonder how much is due to storage condition versus the beer.
I do have a '12 CBS in my cellar - I bought it new, and it's been down there since. Cool, dark, mostly boxed up. At some point a friend of mine is bringing his King Henry over, we'll pop the two of them and see what's gone on with them.

Check out two of the three posts above yours to see how it's drinking....can't imagine much change in the last month + on a bottle that's already 5 years old.

Those posts are on a beer one year older. Sometimes, a year matters.
