all beers consumed in the foggy banks of memory taste better as they are forever rarer and impervious to redrinking.

Last year I traded 3 of my DL for Parabola, Abyss, and Zhukov... All separate 1:1 trades. So to reiterate what has been said- OP, you can get it with "locals" but they are going to be the more limited sought after locals.

With that said, I'd wait til the DL frenzy dies down before you try to snag one. Everyone is all jacked up on hype juice from the weekend party and wants to hold onto these for everything under the sun at this point. With some time though, the reasonable traders will immerse and all will be well. I've struck out thus far as well setting up a pretrade, so I'm gonna wait a few weeks to a month before trying again.

I'd say you got pretty good deals there, as not only did all of those see shelves, but none of those are even $4$ (except Parabola depending on where you picked it up).

I was the one trading my DL... I was happy to get those beers because I had never had them before and never had the ammo to try and get them before going to DLD. All my partners threw in nice extras though... Everyone walked away happy

I also had 2 allotments worth of DL, so I was far more concerned with just trying good beer rather than hype, $4$, etc...

Whoops, misread that. That's cool that you hooked people up! All delicious beers, which is what really matters

thanks, I think I am definitely going to have to wait until it dies down, maybe in that time I can get some more limited stuff.

    Thanks again for the advice.

I'm trading a Dark Lord for a random growler of Portsmouth. Locals can easily pull it if YOUR locals aren't easily accessible to the person with the Dark Lord.

Last year I traded Alpine Pure Hoppiness, Duet and Nelson for 3 bottles of Darklord. I did go $4$. All off the shelf beers.

I am sorry but the trading forums have become disgusting.

no, you got it by paying baldo for gas + food to get you bottles at cost.

i'm glad you were being sarcastic in this post, but let's face it: there are more dld attendees like you who got beatification very easily for very reasonable (cheap, really) arrangements. how many of you sent out your full allotments of dark lord to strangers? how many of you offered to pick up barrel-aged dark lord at cost? selfish pricks.

the saddest part is that baldo went out of his way to hook up so many people and he got trashed by some jackass here.

this is why i don't mule, and why i actively discourage people from doing it. gratitude is in short supply in these parts.

This isn't a 1 to 1 comparison by any means at all. Most people were insanely lucky to even get tickets... a number of my friends did not. I got super lucky and got a ticket by agreeing to mule for the other person (so I guess I'm one of those people) so I could enjoy the event. The opportunity to mule is basically non-existent in this situation so it's really unfair to remotely make that comparison.

And honestly... the comments about the BA Dark Lords which people didn't even know they could buy until the moment they purchased are comical on your part. DLD is a limited release just as Beat is. They are both great, highly rated beers and will trade as such; however the terms of how to get them are completely different.

I'm not saying the animosity that has been posted over the Beat stuff has been ok because it's been childish... but I'm also not going to allow you to victimize yourself and all CA traders in the post like you did.

meh, no different from people in la or san diego being called selfish for keeping our allotments. for us it was a one-time trip to the brewery as well.

eh..... i think anyone going into dld this year expected them to come out. and even then, do you think now that they have those bottles in hand, they are offering to help out their beatification mules at cost? i wonder how many offers of ba dark lord baldo or abecall received for what they did for people.

i didn't mention ca traders, or midwest traders.

i am only talking about the people who got beatification muling help and then attended dld but did not bother to reciprocate.

It was my understanding that everyone in Cali hated Dark Lord anyway. Do you know anyone that actually asked someone to mule for them?

@Levitation... If you believe those statements then I'm not going to convince you otherwise with anything I say. I also have no desire to get into a war of words. I'll leave it with saying I disagree and think there is some mighty faulty logic in there.

i actually like dark lord*. i even had tickets to the event, but had to give them up due to work.

    * and, in general, a lot of midwest stouts, which are tough to trade for lately. which is why it drives me nuts when i see people with those beers complaining that beatification is tough to trade for. um... how about you give up those stouts then...!? classic case of overvaluing what you have and expecting cheap deals for everything else. (the general you, not you specifically.)

fair enough. we'll agree to disagree.

That was actually meant to be a somewhat serious question. Were there people that you know of that asked midwest people to mule DL for them and were told no? Because if not, how do we know that no one (including the Chicago group you called out) would be willing to do it?

I think the Beatification situation was unique because everyone genuinely expected it to be sold out in one day. When word got out that it wasn't (nowhere close, really) and that there were stories of a few Cali BAs (let's not forget leschkie here) who were being generous with deals to either mule or trade for locals, shit really hit the fan because all of a sudden, EVERYONE expected to get bottles cheap.

With Dark Lord, everyone knew (hell, Alewatcher even started a thread about it) that people were going to ask for ridiculous things in the trade forums, so it would seem to me that nobody even bothered to try and set up a muling situation, unless they had landed tickets and weren't able to attend (did someone mule beer for you or did you sell the ticket?). I know that I personally would have been happy to find a mule for someone if they had provided the extra ticket (I completely struck out on tickets and ended up getting mine from a good friend).

Is it possible that people wouldn't return the favor and mule Dark Lord? Sure, I suppose. But I think that's quite a leap you're taking to assume that's the case, given that nobody really proactively asked people to mule. It's not like people can go back to the brewpub today and pick up an allotment for someone, so for someone to ask now is probably futile, because most traders probably already have their bottles lined up to be sent to regular trading partners and such.

i asked someone for the hell of it, to see what people would say (though i was serious about wanting the bottles). i was told no. but i wasn't a beatification mule, so he didn't owe me anything. i know abel likes dark lord, but he's getting some from a trading partner. i'm curious to see what happens if he, baldo, or leschkie hit up their mule recipients and ask for a ba dark lord.

yes, but it's not that expectation which bothers me. it's the fact that when they didn't get the bottles for cheap, there were accusations of hoarding, people asking too much... the butthurt ran wild. compounding the problem is that many of these people had the trade bait to nab bottles (judging from their gots) and just weren't willing to give it up.

i sold the tickets at face. i think it's shitty when people out of the area buy the tickets and hold the allotment hostage, and i didn't want to be part of that. a buddy went, however, and is bringing back a bottle of dl for me, so i'm set.

fair point. while i asked, i think i may be a) an exception, and b) not deserving of mule reciprocation (which is why i'm not upset i didn't get it). i'm more annoyed by people who DID get beatification mules and then proceeded to stump on the issue anyway, which is how i took rmalinowski's post.

You've brought this up before. It still baffles me why there were so many people trying to set up $-for-Beatification trades.

Why a BA DL though? IF you win, you're allowed to purchase one bottle at $50. A bottle that with all the variations combined is maybe 2,500 bottles total. It's not something you can really mule.

I can't speak for baldo or Abel, but I know leschkie has at least a few bottles of regular Dark Lord coming his way from a couple of us who have traded with him in the past (non-muling).

Not sure how much of that was actually serious, but yes, it was a bit ridiculous. If we're thinking of the same thread, I'm pretty sure I tried several times to explain to people where Russian River is actually located relative to where people on BA are actually located.

Definitely agree. Glad to hear you've got one coming.

I suppose I didn't take it as stumping, but rather a failed light-hearted attempt at sarcasm (damn internets!). That could be because I actually talked to rmalinowski about Beatification when it came out and he told me how appreciative he was that someone hooked him up.
