Yeah I don't really get that either. I would rather send something I've already purchased if I've got extras of it than spend more money just to swell my collection. Then again, I like to drink my beer, not just look at it

people asked for six bottles of beatification aka 1 full allotment (12,000 bottles total, so there are 2,000 allotments total).

    2,000 ba dark lords total.

one unit for one unit. seems fair.

well, i'm not lumping you into the group i'm complaining about.

probably took his post incorrectly, then. he said he was being sarcastic, but i assumed it was insincere.

While I agree that it seems fair, you are discussing as if Beatification was only sold for one day and people were only allowed to buy one "allotment". That's not the case however as we've seen that some people have been extrememly generous and gone back 4/5/6 times to "mule" for poeple. With Dark Lord (Just the regular) you have to go through another step of getting a mule for yourself to a ticketed event that is one day a year to be able to get more than your allotment. If Dark Lord had the same fate as Beatification and sat at FFF for two weeks there would be a ton of muling going on. I don't see how the BA DL can be brought into a question of someone not being generous by not "muling" for one. You don't even know if you're going to walk away with one.

with every beer there's a new argument for why it should trade for more than it does. were you allowed to purchase leftover dark lord after the event like in years past?

i doubt that, seeing as how a bunch of other stouts from the area (distributed, large bottle counts) haven't been easy to get. but it's hypothetical of course. we see it differently, that's all.

    all right.

    fair enough.

yes, i think he overdid it, but that's because i used to mule and found the response / lack of gratitude distasteful, so i stopped doing it. you're right that he did ok for himself in the end, but as i pointed out a few posts above, he still got trashed for an ultimately generous move, and i feel badly for him.

so what you guys are saying is...ISO: Mule for 2013 DLD

sounds like an awesome trade actually, all beers involved are wants for me haha...I think the trades that DL is going for right now is out of my realm of possibility, gonna have to wait it out and my ISO got lost in the mayhem.

I think a more fair comparison would be to something like Kuhnhenn BA4D. It's a beer that is world class, trades well, brewery only(with a few exceptions last year), and that recently came out with a much bigger batch that is still available at the brewery(I think).

If someone asked for a mule for some BA4D, and offered cash to cover bottles, shipping, gas, lunch, and a "thank-you" box, I'm fairly certain it would get done. I know there are more traders closer to Kuhnhenn than there are traders near RR, but I think it's a pretty good comparison.

If someone lives near RR, has all the Beatification they want or can afford, has traded all they can afford, then maybe muling is not such a bad deal. Beer and extra cash for your time, if time is something you have FT. It works well for some Bruery trustees, and I bet many good trading partners are born from such arrangements.

Nope, haven't been able to the past two years. Kinda sucks, once I finally got into trading, I couldn't pick up more bottles to trade!

That sucks, man. Baldo sounds like a class act. Society can be an embarrassment sometimes.

Baldo is not the only BA who I got Beatification from. Yes, I did get some from him for what I thought was a fair price and he did hook up alot of BA's who are thankful, including me. I could not have gone as many times as he did. Again, I'm grateful that he took care of me. As a side note, I did not know Baldo through BA, but through a tasting group member that he hooked up. I would agree with your sentiments on muleing and would discourage it unless you, or someone you trust, has a history with the person muleing.
3 of my 4 DL's are going to trading partners in open ended boxes. I try to avoid the trading forums and rely on BA's I know to do most of my trading.
I agree with you that there seems to be an entitlement aspect to the trading forums lately that I just don't care for, which is what I was trying to convey with my post. I should of been more over the top to make the sarcasm more evident.
As for the haters, that is just bush league. There is no need for name calling and being outright nasty. My personal advice is to just ignore it, the more you confront them, the more they attack. When you ignore them, they get tired of talking to themselves and just go away. Also, I'm not the argumentative type. I would rather share some crappy beer with great people than drink great beer with crappy people.

found it: this post. my hope is that by calling out people who are being jerks about this, people will be less inclined to be jaded in the future. the only person that defended him was his tasting buddy. can't speak for him, but that's what made me jaded in the past about doing favors for people.

no, you were clear. i just wasn't certain if you were sincere. i took your post wrong, and i apologize.

i don't doubt it, but i find that distasteful. as i said earlier, it's shitty when someone out of the area buys a ticket and then pretends " i can't go " in exchange for the full allotment of dark lord. there's no way i want to be one of those.

i surrendered my ticket and traded for it the proper way.

anyway, my point was more about a subset of dld attendees (the ones who got beatification muled for them), not all attendees.

did you offer your allotment of dark lord or any ba dark lord to him/her?

    (sort of being argumentative...)
