I will say first off I have never had 4 Elf before. Did DH screw this beer up this year? It says its 8.75% and not 11.5% and its just a mess of a beer. Tastes like bitter cleaning products.

Interesting assessment, I thought last years 4 elf tasted like febreeze holiday air effects

I really enjoy 4 elf, don't see why people dislike it so much! Well, to each their own. On this subject, I'm also confused on the abv of monster 29. Thought it was 19% or so on tap but 13% in bottles?

Interesting. I do remember it being 19% at the Summer Beer Fest.

I have always said the 4 Elf is one of their lesser beers and it is ironic that the release of 4 Elf is an absolute afterthought at the 4 Elf party.

This is something I am curious about as well. I was fairly surprised to read 13% abv on the label given what this beer is typically thought to be alcohol wise.

I would take any and all of their ABV listings with a gain of salt.

I think the 19% was an overestimation , I had it when it was first on tap and a growler from the same release. The alcohol never hit me the same as other strong beers like, Black, Bourbon County Stout, BB Batch 9k, Bolt Cutter, etc etc

I thought the 2010 batch of 4Elf tasted like Southern Comfort.

What vintage had 13% on the label? 2011? This year said 8.75%. RB has the alc listed at 6.75% which was probably also right for some vintage too. I think this beer just wanders around.

I didnt think it as too bad but will crack another one during the game today. Anybody else on got an opinion on the holiday spices vs. cleaning products debate (a fine line to be sure) on the 2012 Elf?

Monster 29 and BA monster 29 both say 17% abv on the bottles from 4elf.

    Its delicious at any abv.

    Cheers!

Take a closer look at that label.

It says, "42 degrees plato, 17% Alc, 13 malts, 10 fermentable sugars, Lots of special ingredients".

    Cheers!

shouldn't BA Monster be about 2% alc stronger by nature of the B in the BA?
